Most of the movies aren't even necessary to follow along with the Infinity Saga, so I doubt these shows will be absolutely must watch even though they're clearly laying the groundwork for the next saga. I mean, If you watch just the Avengers movies, The Captain America Movies and the first Guardians of the Galaxy you know like 90% of that whole story line. You could just not watch Hulk/Captain Marvel/The Ant-Man movies and you're not really missing much at all, and I'm sure Multiverse of Madness will make it so you don't need to see WandaVision or Loki to keep up with the overall story.

When that game was made the color pie was only a half-formed idea that was more about flavor than identity and it allowed for all kinds of shenanigans.

I really don't want to see digital only cards. The difference between what Arena offers and what's going on in paper is already annoying, I don't want them to widen that gap. I guess this does put Brainstorm on a track to be killed or saved in 3 months, but I don't think it helps its case.

One episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark where this kid (who might have been dead?) kept popping up out of nowhere and saying "I'm cold..." in this really freaky voice. I could handle the rest of the show but that one part killed me every time.

Was that this?
Since no one else seems to have responded to this - No, that was not the pool episode. The one you mentioned guess starred Melissa Joan Hart where her and the boy she babysits have a stay with his aunts. Why the boy needed his babysitter to go with him if his two aunts were going to take care of him makes no sense, but that's what you get with kids shows sometimes.

I have no idea about the ghost in the pool, though it certainly sounds like an AYAotD story.

While I'd love for Brainstorm to be the rare card to beat suspension, I do feel like some people (wotc) are underestimating its power and versatility. It's a utility card that just always keeps up with the power of whatever format it's in, as historic gets more powerful Brainstorm will too. There's no card that's going move Brainstorm out of its place in the large majority of Blue decks.

Also don't go counting your wildcard chickens - there's no rule that says they have to revisit this matter in a month. When they introduced the concept of suspending cards the idea was that future releases could evolve the format to a point that a suspended card could come back. Burning Tree Emissary spent three months suspended before they felt it was okay to return it to the format. Given that they seem to really not want to ban Brainstorm they could leave it in limbo for even longer, especially since there's nothing specifically for Historic on the horizon right now (Amonkhet Remastered came out one month after the BTE suspension and definitely impacted the meta).

Not a ban, just a suspension. They don't give wild cards for suspensions, right?

The data they produced really doesn't mean much, the more copies of a given deck there are the more mirror matches there are and thus the closer to 50% win rate they get anyway. Then they talk about how the URx decks are less played on the ladder than at tournaments (of course) but don't talk about the win % there compared to tournaments. And yeah, they didn't talk about Brainstorm outside of those two decks. They literally didn't give any data anyone could use to extrapolate anything, then they said they didn't want to ban the card because the data wasn't clear.

Mealy mouthed bullshit, that's what that is.

At this point, I think Marvel is just about ready to shelve the Punisher entirely. They haven't had an on-going Punisher title for a couple of years and his last limited series is all about him not being the one that killed the bad guys. He's been a supporting character in other stories more recently, but even then it feels like they've been leaning in more on "look at how bad he is for killing people" while actually having him kill fewer people.

With the way the character and his symbol have been misappropriated in recent times this trend isn't changing, and the big D isn't going to want him related to any of their big MCU projects.

at some point James Gunn said theyre not canon, but it wasnt some kind of intentional official announcement, and he could be wrong

if ever a day comes that the canonicity of that stuff is relevant, maybe well get some kind of official word... so whenever Daredevil shows up again, probably.
Anything, absolutely anything from the non-Disney+ TV shows that disagrees with the movies is automatically not canon. If Civil War says the death toll of the Battle of New York is a given number then that is canon and Agents of SHIELD giving a different number isn't. The Disney+ shows are being held in the same level of regard as the movies going forward, but all of the other shows that tried to link to the MCU are not part of the overall canon unless one of the movies or a Disney+ show says so.

Outside of the 45-46 years of Soviet occupations no one breaks Europe into a simple East/West dichotomy. Given the scope of AoE, they should be defining Europe in the much broader context where Hungary is Central Europe (ie part of one of the central powers in WW1).

I liked it but I wanted more. Too much of a cliffhanger.

As for the BW debate, it was totally an MCU movie and had a ton of jokes like usual so I have no idea what he's going on about.
I didn't say there were no jokes, but it didn't have a ton of jokes and the ones it did have fell flat at best. One of the most awful jokes transitioned into the two characters pointing out that they had their reproductive organs removed because their "dad" let them get taken to the red room. Ha ha, so hilarious... Yeah, female organ mutilation, that's the upbeat moment we really needed between action scenes. But again, you're clinging onto the wrong thing here. It's not the jokes or lack there of, it's the overall tone. If you actually think about the content in BW, it borders on depressing. It does not feel like it belongs in the MCU, at all. In fact, I made a mistake earlier in comparing it to the Thor movies. I'd take kids to go see those Thor movies, risking that they'd be bored (well, Thor 2 is boring). I wouldn't take a kid to see Black Widow, risking that they'd ask me about hysterectomies.

You're missing the point if you're just clutching on to joke density. The jokes in MCU movies tend to work as punctuation marks, a chance to break things up - to catch your breath. Outside of the opening scene and the scene from the trailers where the "family" is reunited this movie does not breathe. It is mostly one relentless action scene after another stitched together with dourness. There's no fun, and no chance for a moment in the film to be allowed to be memorable.

Comparing it to Winter Soldier isn't totally off. But Winter Soldier gave you certain set pieces and let you take them in in ways Black Widow does not. When watching Black Widow I think there may have been some cool action set pieces in there but I can't remember because before I had the chance to form any lasting cool moments in my mind they were already trying to do something else... either yet another action scene or a scene of just plain emotional trauma. This movie practically makes Winter Soldier look like rainbows and puppy dogs in comparison.

Infinity War was very serious, but there are also dozens of jokes peppered in. Here's a list of the 17 "best": https://www.bustle.com/p/the-17-best-jokes-from-infinity-war-that-will-help-you-temporarily-forget-all-the-awful-stuff-8979072

Also both of the movies I mentioned, Thor Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy, are serious movies. One of them threatens the destruction of an entire world and the other actually delivers on that threat. The problem with Black Widow is the tone doesn't match with what the MCU is doing now, it doesn't match with the successful MCU movies. It's as much a mismatch in tone with Infinity War as it is with Ragnarok or GotG. It feels like the kind of movie Marvel Studios stopped making because they aren't as fun and memorable. It's like they took a hypothetical script for Atomic Blond 2 and crammed recognizable elements of the MCU into it. Now, I liked Atomic Blond for what it was, but it wasn't an MCU movie and shouldn't be made into one.

Black Widow just does not feel like an MCU movie.

I don't even think Black Widow was fine. Tonally it feels way off from what the MCU has been doing for a long time. It feels like the very serious, maybe an occasional joke kind of tone of the first two Thor movies and at this point it's been 4 years since Ragnarok proved that's not what MCU movies should be like. Hell, it's been 7 years since GotG proved that's not what MCU movies should be like. Black Widow would have been fine, but ultimately forgettable, if the MCU train didn't come to a screeching halt during the pandemic. Since it did, however, someone should have stopped to say "this isn't the movie MCU fans want to come back to."

Current standard is diverse and healthy. It's been a bit boring for the last few months, but it has ultimately been very fair with lots of deck options. I think what (some) people have disliked with standard this year is that each set has added incremental changes to the format whereas last year there were several wild swings both from the introduction of new sets and multiple rounds of bannings.

I haven't really put much time into the 2022 queue, mostly because AFR has changed standard a lot more than most people were expecting.
