These are known as the "Greeks" because they use Greek symbols to represent them. Theta represents price action with the passage of time. The idea is that you sell options and make money off the premiums. Time works in you favor since the closer those options get to expiration the lower their price tends to become. What SLVO does is they buy lots of shares of SLV and then sell calls on them (covered, since they own the underlying shares) and collect the premium. I like selling covered calls since it means I can make money off shares even if they don't go up in price. I also like selling puts because if the price doesn't go below the strike, I have the premium. If it does go below the strike, then it's like I bought the shares at the strike price minus the premium. I lose if the price goes well below the strike, but things are generally in my favor. --- |
