Why not tax someone who rides the bus, because he's not contributing to gas taxes or the occasional traffic ticket, or the economies of auto sales and car insurance?

See how stupid that is? So is a WFH tax.
This, pretty much. The article is right - taxing individuals based on their engagement with the economy is dumb in part because it's impossible to identify an objectively "acceptable" level of engagement.

Simpler alternative is to increase securities transaction taxes - make money off of those who made money in the stock market.

It's recognition that democracy there is dead. They're making a statement that they're done pretending and giving Hong Kong the false illusion of a standing democracy. There's no point if they can just be tossed out for vague reasons if they vote against whatever the CCP wants anyway.

In this case, the other side was going to get what it wants no matter what. This just robs them of the ability to claim it was democratic.
This. It's sad to see Hong Kong go down this way.

Georgia has 2 runoff elections in January. They will win at least one Democratic Senator in Raphael Warnock and after the Biden win, hopefully voters turn out for John Ossoff so we can add 2 dems and be at 48 Dems, 48 Republicans, and 2 independents.

Only one independent or republican has to vote with Dems, and then Kamala can cast a tie breaking vote
How do you see a path for Warnock? If you combine the votes for the two R candidates in his election, he lost by a landslide.

Unlike Bernie, AOC is not particularly mature. Don't see her being capable of building any kind of support base other than hard left progressives. People who are asking her to run for the highest office as soon as she is eligible will see her lose fast. She needs some of the maturity that comes with age.

One thing not many people are accounting for is that once mail in ballots in solid blue states like California come in, Biden is going to have a mammoth lead in the popular vote. No SCOTUS judge, however Red or however inclined to accept the technical grounds Trump's lawyers put before them, is going to support overturning that result. Maybe Thomas and Alito because they are hacks, but not sure about the others.
