like, progressives are humans too. why are we harping on the "they should know better" point so much? why are we utterly bashing them for not acting like saints? if you're a progressive and you're not even allowed to deny that you said something utterly outrageous, you're bending over backwards to appease to moderates. i don't think this is a reasonable standard for any human being to adhere to at all.

I like progressive ideas and dislike the mouthpieces of progressivism. It far too often comes across as people virtue signaling how benevolent and intelligent they are to have found a solution to a complex problem, but then those ideas are stubbornly never converted into electoral success because there's an absolute refusal to consider that perhaps their strategy isn't working. i used to think this too but after seeing biden's performance in the last election, i'm not so sure anymore. biden got a pretty narrow victory against trump during covid. maybe hillary winning the popular vote was more impressive than she got credit for.

then again, trump had incumbent advantage this time so it might have evened out.

yeah, this is where it gets gray area-ish. after santa had made his "what stripey's parents said was worse" post, SEP responded with something like "ok i thought you took back your defense of the watermelon joke but now you're defending it again?" and santa ignored him. so while santa never explicitly unretracted his retraction, i don't think it was completely unreasonable for SEP to assume that he did. and i'd say it's nonsensical for santa to say that SEP was "bullying" him by stating this assumption lol

oh, i'm not denying offensive humor isn't a huge part of comedy but to say that comedy is practically ALWAYS offensive seems like a bit of an exaggeration. i don't see what's particularly offensive about a joke like "you can tune a piano but you can't tune a fish." at the very least, you must admit that that joke is not "offensive" in the way that wheelchair joke is.
