I didn't find the story to be that compelling, especially since it was basically about how all these adults were shitty people and it's up to a band of kids to set things right. and after a certain point, I didn't care about how the story would unfold.

I also didn't care for the characters, especially Morgana.

plus the gameplay doesn't feel like it has evolved much from the 90s. like, you can hide from enemies, and use the grappling hook thing, but in combat, you're just navigating a menu for the best option, which isn't that fun, IMO.
My problem with the game is that it can't lean too heavily into social sim or combat without deviating from it's MO as a series. The balance is... Alright, but the combat seems pointless since the palace is a 1-3 day event, but the social sim can't progress the main story. It would be cool to see being able to skip dungeons or alter the story as a result of social links, the game is already doing a lot at once though.

I'm definitely playing for the story though, the gameplay is flawed, tweaking the difficulty for this game must have been a real challenge.

I also prefer the SMT games since you tend to keep demons longer. In Persona they are so disposable.

Similarly, "use a knife to remove TC's eyes" is not a property that belongs to the TC, is it?

Late to an appointment is you physically being there later than intended. I fail to see how any of that requires some immaterial property. Are you saying because things don't exist at all locations at all times, immaterial things must exist?
Immaterial or abstract objects clearly have some kind of existence. Gnomes are abstract objects because they have no physical referent but we can still talk about them. Numbers are abstract objects too... I'm claiming that my nonexistence at a time or place has similar objective properties i.e it is an object that can be perceived. My existence in this case at the time or place is entirely contingent- but where is the contingency in nature? physically being late is a description you can use is fine, but it hardly describes anything. What is being physically late? Literally not being there at a certain time when expected to be. You can perceive this in the real world, at the location I'm not at, and perceptibility is precisely what an object needs on your own account. So in some sense you can perceive nonexistence or nothingness.

Also yes I completely agree a soul would be the result of having a physical body. At one point I said that the soul is the idea of the body. But that requires an account of what an idea is.

I don't believe immaterial things exist, so yes. If you told me you had a ghost computer in another realm that does calculations alongside your physical computer I wouldn't believe it either.

If soul is the same as mind, then mind is already an emergent aspect of physical properties, your nervous system. All aspects of your mind can be changed, damaged, etc. by changes in your nervous system. There is no aspect of the mind that isn't bound to a physical property.
That is debatable. If I am late to an appointment, I'd like to see you point out the singular physical property that corresponds to. If I am prone to lateness in general please feel free to point to where that exists physically. You will likely have to use nonexistence at a given location to support your argument.

That makes no sense. The entire universe has things that exist. That doesn't mean all of them need a nonmaterial aspect that you cannot measure or find evidence for as well. Again you can't just say something exists because you say it does. That isn't evidence.

I don't believe in the gnomes. It's to show you how believing in things without evidence allows you to say literally anything exists. It's to show the absurdity of your position. It's like saying everything is a dream, we live in a dream, I have no evidence but I say we do, so we do. It's a useless conjecture, even were it true we live in a dream, it in no way influences our lives nor is there evidence for it, so believing it for the sake of believing has no benefit.
Well, ok.

I don't see why you are being skeptical given how I have described it. It's a name for a collection of physical and nonphysical properties that exist. Would you be similarly skeptical regarding "person" or "mind"? Soul is the same as mind, anyway.

Again using a lot of words doesn't make your point suddenly a valid response. Again the soul may not interact with the physical world we live in according to you yourself, so it is as relevant as my invisible gnomes I have proposed or any number of other supernatural creations I could make up.

Generally in science we use the word phenomenon to refer to things that exist in the natural world that we then try to propose explanations for based on evidence. Saying something that doesn't exist in the natural world is a clearly existing phenomenon doesn't make it so. Again if I say my gnomes are a clearly existing phenomenon that doesn't make it so. Saying something exists isn't evidence of existence.
You're dismissing my point entirely, I was just saying that a person's contingent existence is proof that there is an underlying identity to them beyond just their body. Saying someone's potential nonexistence might alter the natural world, and as a result of that they have a physical and nonphysical identity is not a bad argument at all.

The fact you can talk about nonexistent gnomes shows us that you accept the existence of abstract entities that don't correspond entirely to the physical world, but exist in a limited format nevertheless.

That's a lot of words to say you can't measure it and you don't even know if it influences behavior. So again it comes back to what is the point? If I say there are invisible gnomes everywhere. You can't see them, you can't measure their existence, and they might not be able to interact with the physical world, then what is the point of these gnomes and what does believing in them do?
It's not measurable in the same way a human body over a life span is not measurable. What is there to measure? Part of a soul, for example, would be the counterfactual existence in a situation: there's a way things would be if a person did not exist, and there is a way things are by virtue of their existence. There is no reasonable way to expect to measure that, but it's clearly an existing phenomenon.

You can be a materialist and still accept an analytical soul that exists at a rational level, it doesnt have to be an esoteric thing. But there are physical and nonphysical properties: the identity they fall under has to be both physically and nonphysically coextensive with all of those properties, and that is what a soul would be.

A soul in the sense of a mind, sure. There has to be a thing that delineates the boundary of individual human experiences. Souls would be something that tie all of a person's individual conscious experiences together. In some ways souls are the idea behind a body, but also not entirely physically correlated because there are nonphysical properties that an individual can have.

Souls are imperceptible naturally. If you reach back into your life and pick a moment, you can't easily trace it in detail all the way back to the present, you also can't interact with anything in the past similarly, so the actual soul is limited temporally and for that reason we cannot really "see' it. You can experience your own body because it is not formally limited. The soul is imperceptible because it begins in a region that is not accessible to consciousness. Whether or not a soul can influence the body is a very difficult question to answer.
