He never argued d.

Peterson has flaws, but I think more often people hate what the people who don't like him strawman him to be more than what he actually is.

Anyway, a flawed man who legitimately gets emotional when he hears about the countless people he has inspired to turn their life around isn't like a horrible monster or anything.

Don't get me wrong, he's good for a laugh sometimes, I even made a satirical video about him. But I also read his book at got something from it.

he's never explicitly argued d, but that thought process is a big part of the problem with Peterson, even if my example was a fair bit more obvious than Peterson's usual schtick. Another trademark Peterson thing is being as vague as possible so that you can basically interpret anything from what he says and he's basically protected from being targeted for the bad things he says.

Here's a reddit thread explaining why his claim against women in the workforce made zero sense because Peterson doesn't really know what he's talking about outside of his narrow philosophy field.

https://www.reddit.com/r/badeconomics/comments/8lcexw/jordan_peterson_women_joining_workforce_cuts/

He can definitely be flawed, and if you benefit from what he's saying specifically that's fine, but you also need to be aware of the negative things he also regularly preached as well.

And also, like, go to r/JordanPeterson or look at the comment sections of his YouTube videos, his fanbase is super toxic and definitely using him as an excuse to be hateful jerks.

Some of his insights were good/helpeful.

I don't get the point on dunking on him because he genuinely seems to be motivated by his compassion for others rather than self-satisfaction.

He's not without his blind-spots sure. But the message that got through to a lot of young men like me was "with some personal responsibility you can turn your life around, and also you don't have to hate yourself" and considering the climate that was an important message for a lot of guys to hear.

Its because he has a tendency to additionally push some really conservative views under the pretence that its really just the logical followthrough of the actual legitimate advice he gives.

a) You aren't happy right now
b) have some personal responsibility for your own problems
c) you can fix some of the things you aren't happy about, but it probably won't be easy
d) women shouldn't be in the workplace

Its more subtle than just those 4 steps, but that's kind of the issue with Peterson. He definitely gives off a positive vibe, but there's this level of grift there that can sort of fly under the radar. It also doesn't help that Peterson fans tend to be very similar to far-right or gamer gate or whatever anti-SJW jack***es that are just... so hard to like.

The performance advantage of the new M1s is enormous.

Note that the new M1s run on an entirely different chipset so a lot of programs aren't actually going to run on them for quite a while (ex. Photoshop is advertised for mid-2021 IIRC).

If this MacBook is needed to actually do program-specific work, I'd actually suggest steering clear for a few years. If its just stuff like web browsing and Office, there's no problem though.

You don't get a bigger say under the popular vote. You get an equal say.

Its not really an equal say though, because if your state has its own unique problem with 1/2 a million people in it, the state next door with 8 million people who aren't suffering whatever the issue is is going to drown out your voice and you just aren't going to be heard at all.

I get now that those 1/2 a million people are being given too loud a voice, but just tipping the scales the other way isn't really solving the issue. I think the electoral college can still work if its just a bit more proportional (ie. if 1/3 of California votes for Trump, he should get a 1/3 of those votes, and when 45% of Texas voted for Biden, he should've gotten 45% of those votes)

If this isn't widespread electoral reform and literally just the president, then sure whatever, the senate also overvalues rural states.

That is a very naive way of looking at things.

Companies found out a long time ago that you don't have to make the best products, you just have to convince enough people that you do.

I think its a little more in the middle of the two. It doesn't happen all the time, of course, but that's at least the theory behind it. Heck, companies like Walmart are well known for being successful by sacrificing quality for a lower price. But it isn't like we don't see it still.

If you want the best smartphone around, the new iPhone whatever is going to be a clear contender, or how the Apple Watch is easily the best smartwatch (Which Apple ruins with the caveat of "only works with an iPhone")

Capitalism is breeding innovation and the best products around for Apple and the iPhone/Apple Watch/whatever, but its also stimulating anti consumer practices and other terrible things in order to keep their spot at the top of the hill.

ah, our resident capitalist enthusiast.

pray tell, how does capitalism breed innovation when the core function is to drive profits by marginalizing costs?

It very much can, because (at least in theory) the best way to drive up profits is to provide the best product/service, which would understandably lead to innovation.

Of course this doesn't happen all the time, especially when companies get larger and can control whatever market they're in, but we do see it happen from time to time.

As an example, the iPhone was an innovation like a decade ago when it was introduced, even if recent years haven't seen much changes (which is a result of Apple dominating their share of the market). Also the Apple Watch basically kicked off the smartwatch market.

Definitely not, I think there definitely needs to be an improvement to the current system, but I don't think a straight popular vote is the right choice.

Apple stuff is designed to "just work" but its a lot harder to do anything outside of what Apple specifically would like you to do with it, which is where Android really shines. There's a lot more freedom with stuff like custom launchers.
