I've encountered a lot of hippie dippie woowoo crystal types through other communities I'm a part of and the placebo effect is very real with these people.

One lady I met would spend an hour a day "bathing" in her crystals - rubbing various ones all over her head and chest in a particular order - and according to her husband, she really did start seeing health improvements. Here's the thing though: she lived a very high stress lifestyle and that hour a day was the only time she ever just stopped to calm down and relax. He looked at me aware of that obvious fact and aware that I was aware of it but just left her to her trinkets.

Pretty much every account of crystals helping someone, at least that I've ever heard of, goes back to them just being able to take some time they other wise wouldn't get to enjoy a break.

And as someone who lived with depression for a very long time, hobbies were a big part of getting the ball rolling and making progress that have led me to a relatively depression free lifestyle, though it was a much more complex process than that. Lots of other people I've spoken with have said the same thing. Of course, these are just my experiences and observations. I'm not a doctor and I'm not saying hobbies will cure depression.

Anyway, back to the woowoo, I honestly hate to disrupt or ridicule something that legitimately helps someone but when these crystal people start getting a little overzealous and insulting others who don't go for that kind of thing - and they usually do - it's hard not to go in on them. I left that aforementioned lady alone because she was nice and just practicing a harmless activity for herself and by herself.

Not all of them are like that though and some of them get straight up dangerous. I've met people whose belief in crystals is so powerful that they claim it cured their cancer and encouraged others to give up chemo or that certain stones could cure autism, and other wild shit. Tbh I thought the topic title was going to be about coronavirus because I've seen that shit, too.

but this woman HOUNDS us about her problems EVERY FUCKING DAY. if something goes wrong she blows up my partners phone about her issues and when she offers advice she turns on her and says to butt out of her business. then later she'll go on about her cyrstals

and oh yeah. those crystals she buys? usually hundreds of dollars. her main source of anxieity? FUCKING MONEY. she complains "I DONT HAVE MONEY. I HAVE TO PAY BILLS WAAAAH" " I WORK TOO HARD AND I STILL DONT HAVE MONEY"

OH GEE I WONDER WHY YOU DONT HAVE MONEY AND HAVE TO LIVE AT HOME IN YOUR 30S EVEN THOUGH YOU LITERALLY WORK FULL TIME AS A LAB ASSISTANT.

yeah they're cheap and yeah the image quality is good/fine.

but they will break.

mine has 2 issues right now.

1) if fast start is enabled, it merely puts the TV into a low powered state (sleep) when you hit the off button, so it doesn't have to do a complete boot when you turn it on.

but 9 times out of 10 when you go to turn it back on, it bugs out and doesn't turn the backlight on. so you get a black screen (if you turn out all your lights you can see a dim dim dim image of what should be on your tv). unplugging the tv is the only fix. only solution online right now is just dont use fast start

2) some weird sharpness/saturation issue when you turn the tv off and back on. if you turn the tv off, i dont think it completely powers off. it just goes into a sleep mode first before shutting down. if you turn it back on in that time, your image look likes you cranked the sharpness up to 100 and contrast and saturation up to 100. it looks like poop. nothing fixes this except, you guessed it, unplugging the tv.

if you spent a lot of money on a TCL tv, i hope its still under warranty or i hope these issues don't affect you because TCL seems to be aware of the issue, and dont care to fix it besides telling you to restart the tv like i said.

if you need a cheap tv get a hisense. ive had my hisense for about a year now and haven't had these issues.

im kinda worried about my fish tanks. no heat and no filter. i put some stuff to help with ammonia before i left and its pretty warm today, in the 70s. my tanks are usually heated to about 78ish.

last year i lost a ton of fish because it was winter and the power was out for 2 days (wild fires).

Check out a book called "This Naked Life" by Annie Grace. That helped me a lot, but I also went to AA for a while in the beginning and that provided a critical foundation, though it quickly lost its usefulness to me. I'm now over a year sober with no real desire to drink.

As cliche as it is, you really do have to take it one day at a time. If you're physically dependent, it's imperative that you seek help from a professional (actually, do that anyway) because withdrawal can be extreme.
