Technically Daniel instigated every confrontation in the orig Karate Kid movie, thus why some people claim he was the true antagonist in the movie. In the show, personality wise he comes across as a nice guy but he still goes out of his way to disrupt Johnny's life when it's none of his business. Despite his good guy pretense, I find it hard to like his character and it's a lot easier to like Johnny in the show instead.
