Punk had "MMA training" as in he like, took stuff like Muay Thai and BJJ classes.

But really, Punk went to the Octagon because he had name value to get a big payday, and it was a goal of his. I don't think anyone was really expecting him to do well, especially after his first match failed so badly. You should be more upset with UFC for letting some random goober with some name value immediately join the roster of the best fighters in the world.

Ultimately UFC is a business

Yeah, Brock Lesnar going to UFC made sense because of his legitimate background in NCAA wrestling. Turns out pro wrestling isnt a great background to have for MMA

I think Punk had some real martial arts training, he was just 38 years old and beat up with no MMA experience.

The first fight had to be delayed because Punk had a hernia. No joke
