Idk, I think you're trying to force the show to be about science vs religion or logic vs illogic when it's not (except maybe for 14 year olds on Reddit it might be, which you very well may be idk). Forcing the show into whether Rick is logical or illogical strips away soo much of the entire identity of the show. He's a fucking scientist alcoholic. Being that much of an alcoholic is "illogical". I'll give you an assignment like I give my high schoolers because I shouldn't have to spell it out. Why do you think alcoholism is a core trait of Rick's character? Walter White is a similar example. You're meant to root for him in the beginning but by the end, you realize what effect he actually has on his family. Skyler goes from being an annoying bitch to revealing she actually has decency in times that matter and it's on purpose and very explicit in the show's writing. People who still think Walter is the hero hold onto some false idolization. You think Rick is cool and so does everyone else which is why they even like him but if you're looking at straight up narrative structure, the show leans more and more into showing the actual consequences of Rick (even of multiple Ricks in the citadel and how Rick's negligence gives rise to Evil Morty). Alkeez posted... Maybe its not Morty, maybe its not Beth, maybe not even family... maybe its just the idea of feelings or tradition? You have it backwards. It's not that he wants family but doesn't need it. It's that he needs family but doesn't want it. Alkeez posted... yet he is close to a god in how he protects himself from it. And maybe thats a lesson? No, you still are coming from the frame of Rick is perfect, so we just straight up disagree --- itt my post is the best |

Have you ever read a book and it read "and then he had to adjust his undies because they were scrunched too tight" or "then he took a second to look at the lil squiggly line in his eye" or "and then his zipper got stuck on his winter coat". Those things happen to people in real life but a story moves with purpose. Fiction is deliberate. The fact that you need to throw that little line in to explain a huge leap in character logic should be a huge sign to you. I know real people can change in 30 years. But a character is something sculpted intentionally. If a 30 year gap changes a character, you better show what in the hell changes that character went through in 30 years and how it represents their behaviors, actions, and morals. You can't just use "oh he's different". He's muthafucking Luke Skywalker. He has been established as a char for decades. Let's even ignore the time segment and just say he's been established for 3 entire movies. He had development in those movies that reflected his initial motivations for his journey.....are you even following? Like am I wasting my time writing this. I wonder. --- itt my post is the best |

Calm down lol. His analogy makes sense. It wasn't that we found out more about why the character is the way he is, it's that he did a COMPLETE 180 of everything he had ever stood for up until that one moment (and remember this is muthafuckin Luke Skywalker of all people) and after that moment, continued behaving like the ORIGINAL CHAR and not the new char. That's just....shitty writing. You cannot retcon something fundamentally opposite about a char but then have it have no impact on their future char. --- itt my post is the best |

I actually watched through the prequels after Last Jedi came out just to see how they fared compared to maybe my most disliked movie of all time. None of them were amazing or anything but I think what makes the sequels worse is that they pretend to be good movies and the prequels don't. The prequels are just bad up front and boring, but the sequels have all the right direction to make it seem like they're really good but there's really no depth to back up the charge. The prequels will have a scene that has no acting and a jedi simply explaining why something is sad, and the sequels have a scene with really sad music, the actors gushing their eyes out, and the lighting to reflect the mood but all because someone spilled a glass of milk. The prequels progress really slowly, and the sequels get you hyped only to disappoint immensely by doing absolutely nothing with the build up. They're two kinds of bad but I honestly prefer something bland the entire way through than promises of something grand only for it to be nothing. I truly prefer neither. Also Jar Jar in retrospect is actually good because he's the only entertaining thing about Phantom Menace (aside from the song and the end duel ofc). In AotC, the mismatch romance acting between Hayden Christianson who shows no emotion and Natalie Portman who is trying to carry the whole scene is so awkward that it's kinda funny. --- itt my post is the best |
