Bachelor pad or 1 bedroom would be hard to find under $900. More doable not in a city in Ontario. I'm not sure what people charge to live in those 1 bedroom units like one top of a pizza store or some other business. I don't have time to do all the research. Barrie is a smaller city not too far from Toronto and they tend to be lower in price.

I know places in the US have low rates like $7 or 8 an hour and I haven't researched dollarstore food items or rent at those places but it seems doable for a single person and have some "comfort."

You can spend and splurge on min wage just keep it low. That's what I do and I make more. I typically borrow books from the library very rarely buy new or used. There's lots of options. Around the Toronto area you can find basements to rent for cheaper at times than the going rate.

My income here in Ontario is between $50-70K. I won't fully disclose and it's going higher eventually. My 2 pair of pants faded in colour after like 3-4 year so I bought new ones. "Comfort" is achievable. "Wants" are another story.

I'm not familiar with America. But taking Ontario, Canada alone it's doable. And I don't know how much to rent a 1 bedroom basement in Toronto or a bachelor pad so Toronto may be out of the question. As I said small cities or town.

Min wage supports 1 person usually. You can get food at a food bank or buy $1 items. Clothing at shelters/churches is typically free and they have overstock. Shelter at a bachelor pad or renting a room only at a house is cheap.

A single person could do it. I make well more than that and I only own 3 pairs of shorts...so minimalize/downsize.

Of course can't support a family on that income alone. Having kids would not be on my list then. Doesn't seem right to bring a child into a world like that.

I tried the habanero chicken burger before it was just okay. IIRC only the sauce on the burger has the spice and it wasn't anything I'd get again. I won't bother with the other two types of burgers.

The best thing in the menu for me is their chicken ceasar wraps.

Alright I checked the menu online. In Canada we only have the spicy chicken burgers not the spicy nuggets. I'm not sure if they are still selling the hot sauce for the nuggets but I tried it before and it was just alright.

Technically I could sell my current house (4 bedroom) and move into 3 bedroom with an unfinished basement and still have some extra left to re-invest prior to receiving money from my folks. But I probably won't sell until 10-15 years.

The money itself doesn't bring "happiness". Even my current lifestyle is pretty decent cause I tend to live just slightly below my means. And as a minimalist I buy only a selected clothing items that typically lasts me 10 years unless it fades or rips sooner. So a lot of my money is saved up as backup and for house maintenance.

The only debt I have currently is that house's mortgage. The debt I take on going forward tenants will be paying. If things go well I plan on giving tenants in December (50% off rent or 100% off in Dec if they have stayed at the same place for 5 years and I won't increase rent each year) but this all depends where I am financially with my money situation before making that discount happen.

No. Just my sister and I. We had a small detached bungalow then my dad about 12 years ago bought that house. The basement is split into 2 so there's 2 different tenants living in the basement paying rent otherwise it'd just be empty space. They don't need all that space.

And more...the house is in Toronto. In 2021 probably sell for 1.5 million or more. They will give my sister some money too and keep the rest for themself and downsize (live off wha the government gives them and keep some extra). My grandfather passed away last year so my dad also got some money from that also. I've never asked him how much he has, but a good chunk of it is in the house of course until it sells. It's an early inheritance.

My parents generally don't think about themself in terms of spending on stuff like crazy such as travelling a lot. I'm the same. A good chunk of what I'll have by 50-60 will go to my kids. I really don't care to travel and see the world much. I've been to a few places and it doesn't really appeal to me. And I don't care for owning much material stuff. I may down the road get a nicer watch and maybe in my 50s another car.

I spoke with my folks who were going to sell their house this year, but now plan on doing it next year more than likely due to this pandemic. My dad already said he'll pay off my mortgage ($240K, I can sell the house now for $500-$600K) and I'm sure I'll get some more since they have officially retired and plan on downsizing dramatically (their house is 6 bdr & 7 baths).

I'll be using that as leverage to get into the real estate business next year then late 2021 possibly stocks. My office job is pretty flexible and laid back so I don't think down the road anytime soon I'd leave that. I can come in 30 mins late and it's not even an issue.
