I'm glad its not a carbon copy but its just not good. The characters are all bland, the pacing is awful, it makes some weird jumps around mid-scene. Mulan only ends up capable and not dead due to magic powers, as everyone has mentioned. The tone of the big moments in the film just never seems to match what is actually going on. Hell Mulan's entire identity reveal is kind of a hand wave and everyone just kind of knows for some reason. Then they just skip to "Yeah you are a woman ok thanks get out". I live in an area where fires are not a threat, but more and more the outdoor air becomes unsafe to breath due to fires in the region. The air when I was much younger used to be caked in smog.
