3D World is the best 2D-ish Mario game in decades. In addition to being just a well polished platformer, the multiplayer is so fun and inclusive. Perfect for any age. Online should be really good for it.

Kazuichi is fine, he serves a purpose as the normal guy and as the technology guy for the latter half.

That's true. I just wish Kaz had more to him than a game-long joke about being a simp to Sonia.

Sonia's job is to be a red herring spy by acting suspicious in chapter 5, but otherwise she does nothing of value.

Sonia's good! Her role is to be likable and also to provide empathy to the cast. She does it well.

I'm fine with Hiyoko replacing Akane, with Akane dying in Case 3. It would be interesting having Nekomaru coming back in Case 4, but Akane is now dead.

Random thought experiment. Theres a lot of complaints with the DR2 surviving cast and for good reason. Akane and Kazuichi seem like such nothing characters. In fact, Fuyuhiko was supposed to die instead of Hiyoko in Case 3, which would have made 3 nothing characters. Who would you rather replace them?

You can argue 5 isn't real, but at least it wasn't telegraphed to hell or intentionally misleading. Also I pleasently enjoyed that it was shorter than the other ones. The long comic section at the end of the other 4 was pretty tedious

This is kinda similar to my kneejerk DR1 rankings, but I've grown to appreciate Case 4 a lot more.

DR1 is just a weird game in general though

I was lukewarm on 999, but VLR provided such a unique experience. It captures some of the magic I expected from Dangan Ronpa 1, but got through the 999 sequel of all things.

1 of the benefits of VLR over 999 is the voice acting. For a niche visual novel, the voice quality was better than I expected and added a lot of heart to the characters.

It's cool that we got separate experiences. I definitely remember my first route of the game was Luna route. The one where the lock appears after seeing a cameo of the Director Room and having all of these flashbacks to such an insignificant thing. It was such a wild experience, I was on high alert the entire game. I also remember getting Tenmyoji ending really quickly. It may actually be my very first ending. Again, it really changes how you experience the rest of the game.

My very first route in 999 was literally the Coffin Route, so maybe I just have an eye for cinematics.

I tried using Keepass and it didnt work for me for the reasons you just listed. I switched to LastPass which has an iOS app and it hits the perfect balance of safe and convenience for me.

I liked 999s cast but the best character being put on the sidelines for most of the game is a big knock against it.

Following up on that, its the first time Junpei actually has any agency in the game. I also love that its sudoku of all things, considering the focus on 9 in the game.

The nice thing about the Zero Escape games is that the developer has an in-depth interview going over making the game and some unanswered questions. Im trying to find one thats just 999 and doesnt have any VLR spoilers at all.

I can see where people get their complaints about pacing, but I think it's paced very well. Story bits are good for getting you invested in the characters and the story, gameplay bits are good for...gameplay. I wish the random bits of gameplay like the sewers or the tunnels were more intense battles to use the gameplay to its fullest extent. Instead, you get these kinda short battles where a few uses of Triple Slash can just annihilate the enemies.

Almost GOTY if Hades didn't come out this year.

I do think MM2 is a little unique in that it really shows the player how great the weapons are. Obviously Metal Blades is the star, but Air Shooter, Atomic Fire, Quick Boomerang, and Bubble Lead has its notable uses. I do think the unique challenges of MM2 is going through the Quick Lasers without Time Stopper or Heat Man blocks without Item 2, but he already did the first one and...well...I guess he can still do the Heat Man blocks without realizing Item 2 can be used lol

Mega Man 1's difficulty is a little overrated. It has some rough spots but it's still pretty forgiving as far as NES games go.

I agree with this. It's more like the entire Mega Man series is rough in difficulty and MM2 is an easier start than MM1.

I always like taking out Cut Man first. He's a fairly easy boss with a fairly easy stage.

The weirdest thing about MM1 is the score system. That thing is completely gone in all other Mega Man games.

I think Original -> X series is the way to go. Controls are tighter in X but the sheer amount of stuff to collect in X makes it less friendly than Original.

I would love a playthrough topic. I remember one of the first Board 8 topics that really invested me was Karma Hunter's Mega Man Anniversary Collection topics back in 2005.

The Legacy Collections on Steam are a great start, since it includes the new games too. Definitely recommend starting with MM2. It's the true start in a lot of ways.

I really loved reading this topic and all your thoughts on FFV. They mirror mine a lot. Anyways, I highly recommend doing the Four Job Fiesta one day. It's always interesting to explore how each job was made for the whole game. You also really get a sense of how to get past each boss, especially around World 3.

I really appreciate Dissidia/Duodecim's respect for FFV. They did so well with all 3 playable characters (Bartz, Exdeath, and Gilgamesh), especially since it's pretty much the first real depiction of FFV. And yes, Bartz's super is basically perfect. They also have Bartz's dancer outfit as an alt costume.
