It's always good to set some baseline foundation, especially for something like DnD where everything is dependent on player imagination. If the books didn't tell you what Orcs , Elves, Drow, and Halflings were generally like people would have very little clue on how to proceed. And if you just say any race can be and do anything it dilutes the purpose of them to begin with. It basically just turns them into people from different places. Nothing is stopping someone from playing a scholarly wizard orc but it needs to be stated somewhere that that is not the norm.

If your GM cannot fill out the nuances of races in the game world better than these over-simplified stereotypes people lean on, then they are not a very good GM. As someone with a lot of experience GMing and playing tabletops, that much is indisputable. The game is literally about imagination, world building, and interesting characters. God forbid the GM and players have to flex their creativity to create an experience more memorable than "Generic Tolkien Fantasy #891728".

Yeah, what Wizards of the Coast is doing in their work is making actual Player Character Race have less forced-traits by increasing the complexity of heavily "generalized" and type-cast races in their personal worlds. I don't really have a problem with that, I always thought it was a bit bizarre that 80% of DnD campaigns depict orcs as mostly dumb and brutish when, as a GM, you could really do so much more to create a cool culture for them with more nuance than "They like to kill and raid and burn stuff". You don't need a player race that is just dumb, any member of any race can be pretty stupid if you want them to be--In fact, it would probably be more interesting making an Elf who is a total ignoramus than pushing the same tired tropes.

Comparatively few people know about the Holodomor and even fewer know about Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. No. Everything is connected. You cannot pretend to be "moral" when your politics represent self-interest. Where do you think these people flock to? Liberal policies that encourage lifting the impoverished at the mild expense of others? You can't really argue with someone that doesn't have the same philisophical understanding that you do. It's not just about morals or ethics, people just genuinely don't give a rats ass about their physical, mental and spiritual health and how animal foods can affect them.

Yeah, it's important to remember that your average person does not really have a true sense of morality, they have a list of rules they abide by because they fear punishment. They lack any real capability to communicate or intellectually broach subjects from the philosophical approach to morality, and when they do abide by a "general" moral code, they do so as a means to cloak their actual feelings or desires.

These issues are only compounded in societies like America, where artificial codes like religion are even being thrown to the wayside in favor of the worship of the ego and the glorification of greed as a means to "self-improvement". It's thinly-veiled anti-morality, where the needs of the individual are viewed in contrast with the needs of society, and the people who partake view the exploitation of the system as a good thing as a means to generate wealth (And, in turn, garner greater power in society).

It's why Donald Trump won an election on the back of xenophobic hate speech propped up by lies convincing poor people he'll help them exploit the system for their benefit, instead of them being the exploited as usual.

Most countries in Europe are perfectly fine with people owning bolt-action rifles like this, especially for hunting or target shooting, as long as they meet some not-unreasonable requirements. For target shooting, many countries require you to be a member of a target shooting club. Hunting is sometimes limited to shotguns and bolt-action rifles. There are many countries, however, that don't have significant qualms about semi-automatic rifles--Norway, Finland, Russia, Switzerland, Georgia, ect. Most are still a bit more restrictive in their oversight than the U.S., obviously. The more uncommon feature in European gun control is public carry, which is often forbidden unless licensed for a specific reason (Police, security, armed transport, high-value store owner, ect.).

Target shooting is a lot of fun, but also expensive--Even for .22 LR nowadays.

Bolt-action rifles of this quality are probably about $400.00, in that ball park. You can get decent older mil surp bolt-action rifles sometimes for as low as $100-200.00 though, and if you're not a proficient marksman pushing out to longer ranges you can still have a lot of fun with them.

Also you do NOT want to watch the anime after the Summit War arc. Switching to the manga before that is also reasonable but changing media right before that arc probably isn't a good idea. Pacing and budgeting go to shit after.

Arlong Park has a nice end payoff imo, but the Alabaster is the first truly realized arc. Before Alabaster it's more "entertaining" than "interesting".
