I would love to see the night sky for what it is. I actually missed Comet NEOWISE this year because even though it was at peak brightness, it was still just dim enough for the light pollution of my city to render it completely invisible.

I also want to see the Milky Way as well, and that's impossible in the city.

I grew up playing the All Stars version of SMB 3 so the NES version is so off putting to me.

Same, and I feel the same with the other games as well.

I can't go back to the NES versions of those games. Especially not NES Lost Levels, where you only get three lives at the start and have to restart the whole world if you lose (not really a problem with OG Super Mario Bros, but Lost Levels is just brutal).

Echo Fighter, that's the term. I never use the term.

Yeah. Echo Fighters are clones with their own slot on the selection screen.
Alts are skins for the Fighters that may also change their name and voice, but the moveset remains exactly as is.

All the same could be said for Ken, except Akuma tends to have multiple supers at once. Hardly a massive divergence.

And Ken is an Echo Fighter as his own slot, and even calling him an Echo is pushing it, as he honestly has more differences from Ryu than Dr. Mario does from Mario, and Dr. Mario isn't considered an Echo Fighter when he really should be.

Akuma would be either another Echo Fighter, or a semi-clone if he got in.

Honestly, SEGA did it to themselves.

SEGA CD and 32X were failures and ruined consumer faith in the brand; the Saturn released six months earlier than it was supposed to, pissing off major retailers and third party studios who were completely uninformed of the surprise launch, and then Sony came onstage the same day and revealed that their Playstation would retail at a cheaper price, ultimately resulting in the Saturn being yet another flop especially outside of Japan; and constant infighting between SEGA Japan and SEGA USA (where the former most often got their way) resulted in the Saturn launching without a mainline Sonic title.

By the time it seemed like they were finally regaining their footing with the Dreamcast, the Playstation 2 came out and absolutely destroyed it.

His moveset--while being based on Ryu's--is different, he has different specials and Supers, and his demeanor is almost the polar opposite of Ryu's.

Partly because men and women have different interests. Partly due to the nerd stigma. Partly due to the whole "boy's club" mentality. Partly due to the focus on developing for male interests. There are other factors as well, but I'd say the difference in interests is the biggest factor. There are plenty of women both casually and hardcore into gaming, but I don't think it'd ever exceed a certain threshold even if all stigmas were removed.

After the gaming market crash video games were rebranded as a type of a toy for younger males. Usually around 6-11 which is the most profitable. Look at gaming advertisements in the 90s and how many of them feature young teen males acting super cool and rapping about the game.

This trend is slowly dying, but some gamers are resistant to any attempts to make games more inclusive, and too much drama around a product can be bad for investors. So the going is slow.

The Past versions of each Zone's music seemed to be the only thing that carried over to the US release. But in the US release, the music for Past, Present, and Future all felt different for each Zone. So the Past tracks could sort of stand alone.

But when you play with the original soundtrack, Past and Future feel like different versions of Present, so they actually work a lot better.

Also, the Act Clear jingle works a little better since they actually work it into the ending credits.

Yeah, I think the reasons the Past music remained was due to hardware issues, where those versions were baked into the game or some such.

But the JP/EU soundtrack really does run circles around the US one.

Yeah, I'm rewatching the whole thing and while I still think that Light should've won, he was way too big of an asshole to Misa. Felt bad for her tbh.

Yeah, I recall one part of the anime (probably in the manga as well, but I didn't read that far of it) where Misa asked him something while he was part of the rescue attempt of his sister, and he yelled at her to shut up and threw a glass at the wall next to her. I can understand that he was extremely stressed given the situation, but that was especially messed up.
