It was 2003 and this game was hyped as "Final Fantasy's return to Nintendo" since it was the first since FFVI I wanna say. I guess they figured sure, toss in some sex appeal, why not?

The fact they delayed release so much and shipped a product where you can't even share a multi-player adventure is actually just mind boggling the more I think about it.

Load times being worse than gamecube is the biggest downside for me at the moment.

I will say I like the new menu system better. I'm not fluent with it yet, but I'll get there. The storage moogle in your home village is neat. I generally enjoy the new look of things. Voices are a bit odd.

The 13 dungeons thing is just a reskinned hard mode for all the existing dungeons, btw. Just so you're emotionally prepared if you were expecting something else.

The closest I've come to this is at a store with self-scan checkout machines, they have a staff member telling people in line whenever one opens up (in case they didn't notice). This is actually a positive good because I don't want some goofus ahead of me standing around when there's an available machine.

In general, yes this practice makes sense, to keep the line moving. But they still manage to annoy me by INSTANTLY and ASSERTIVELY being like "SiR! tHeRe'S a MaChInE oPeN" when roughly 0.3 seconds have passed since the last customer walked away, and there's only 1 or 2 people total standing in line, and I am clearly staring directly at the empty machine and milliseconds away from taking my first step toward it.

Honorable mention to this 10-ish year old punk who thought he was going to teach me how to use electronics not all that long ago. He was with a woman one space behind me in line. I saw an open machine and walked up to it, only to realize there was a transaction started with 1 item rung up. I looked around and didn't see anyone who was apparently using the machine. I took about 1 second to briefly consider whether I should just clear out this instance or move to a different machine. During this 1 second, my gaze happened to be directed toward the screen. This kid, assuming I was an idiot who couldn't use technology, piped up in the most condescending voice (he probably has to teach adults in his life this stuff all the time) "all you need to do is hit cancel...". He lacked the capacity to realize maybe possibly I was considering something outside the bounds of the literal screen I was looking at. I didn't say anything but man I wanted to teach that child a lesson, lol.

Just because the race wasn't close doesn't mean that it didn't have the potential to be close. Both runners are skilled and one runner had the better day. The runner you're saying they should have been embarrassed to accept was the original pioneer of the category.

I am just now reading this message for the first time (passed out for a nap after I wrote the one before it lol), and, let me be clear in that I don't want to be argumentative here, but I do want to make a clarifying statement.

My point didn't have anything to do with the quality of the runner. I wasn't saying "how embarrassing they let this loser into GDQ", my point was simply, don't take races of "INSANELY" difficult categories where even the world class competitors can have such varying results with such high frequency. I love those runs (Necrodancer was awesome) but I just feel they're better left to a single runner. A blowout race makes for a worse show than one person having a rough time with a run, imo.

Would be interesting to see a sort of hybrid marathon where they accepted both in-person and online runs.

January 2021 is my company's "optimistic best-case scenario" for just...returning to the office. I'd be shocked if a live GDQ event was happening by then.

They were both under estimate despite the 10 minute gap between runners. So clearly there was some cushion in there, and that's fine. To me in that sense it makes for a better show to just have one runner with room for error as opposed to a race environment where the race is awkwardly not close.

I maintain my stance. To each their own.

I only caught the last 20 minutes or so, but on the surface (based on end times) the Metroid Fusion 1% Hard race seems like an embarrassment on whoever scheduled/accepted it. It wasn't even remotely close?

my SNES gets no signal after sitting on the shelf for a year or so

I took it apart, cleaned the pin connector etc. with rubbing alcohol, cleaned my cartridges, etc.

Tried both AV and the RF switch for output, no signal either way

I occasionally get a glitchy screen, most times it's black with slight static, sometimes just solid black. Never any sound at all

I know the AV cable works for my gamecube. Technically I haven't verified the RF switch is good but I did just buy it from a local game shop the other day

What are the next steps? I've surpassed surface level google search

well, yeah, of course. I mean every runner and commentator is streaming from their own home. When I said "poor tech team" I did mean "I feel sorry for the tech team" if that wasn't clear. I wasn't knocking them. It's a herculean task.

I've had it on in the background since yesterday evening, usually not paying close attention, but way more transitions have had issues than not. Poor tech team
