| Antifar 08/10/20 1:19:46 PM #1 | In strategy games, especially those with permadeath, often something will happen to make you want to restart the turn or battle so as to change the outcome. Games have adopted different ways of handling these moments 1. Letting players save and reload (savescumming) 2. Providing some sort of undo mechanic, perhaps with limitations (like in FE Three Houses, or Into the Breach) 3. Forcing players to live with their mistakes, whatever the cost (Ironman mode in Xcom) My idea is a game built around a time travel mechanic, but instead of just going back to restart a turn as it was, you would send individual units back in time. They would travel to their current location, but five or however many turns ago, and you would have to use that advantage to change the course of the battle. This would create a copy of the character involved. In order to prevent you from just doubling your entire squad, you would first half to fill a meter, either by killing enemies or obtaining some resource on the map.
