It does enough with some of its own gameplay systems to differentiate itself, though, and it feels very good to control. I enjoyed the developer's previous game (Fran Bow) quite a bit. This one is similar in some ways, although unfortunately I preferred Fran Bow in every aspect. Still, it was an enjoyable playthrough. Beat a third-person shooter Returnal My game of the year so far! ...Out of the three non-remake/rerelease games I've played this year, one of which I just moved to the under 70 metacritic category. Still, I enjoyed it a lot. The gameplay was about what I expected, aside from being easier than I had heard (I think they may have changed some things in patches,) but it was a lot more compelling narratively than I expected. I tend to be less enthusiastic about 3D platformers than a lot of people, and I figured it was getting extra credit because it was free. When I booted it up and saw it was going to focus on controller gimmicks, my optimism dropped further. Thankfully, I was wrong. I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially most of the controller gimmicks. A lot of the mechanics are obtuse, and poorly explained... Which I guess makes it true to the series. Less visual novel than I was hoping for, but what was there was cool, and I loved the cast. The way their personalities carried into the Mafia portion of the game was quite well done. I found the Mafia sections to be pretty damn addictive, but I imagine people who have actually played a lot of Mafia will find them to be a bit too limited, and I know they'll disagree with the logic the game uses sometimes.
