Call me weird but I mostly hate AC. Shit makes me cold. I only have it one for maybe a few minutes if it's stupid-hot out, before turning it back off. I'd rather just open the windows.

If you have to strawman this hard it's not even worth posting.

Stating an objective fact of reality isn't a strawman, I'm afraid. I just pointed out precisely what you posted. These are protests against police brutality (in celebration of Juneteenth, no less), you call them tantrums. \_()_/

rocking the boat is certainly a better way to say tantrum

In this post, Bropseh_Stalin characterizes black people protesting the cops murdering them with impunity as a "tantrum."

You're really showing your true colors here Broseph. This is almost as good as your coming out as a Pinochet apologist.

This whole paragraph is bs.

Big burly buff guys with unobtainable bodies vs hourglassy curvaceous women with unobtainable bodies. Both scantily clad. Its the same thing. But just like sleeping with people, women doing it is villainized for some reason.

Men and women are not the same. Voldo is NOT sexualized in an alluring way. Its in a creepy way. Stop bringing him up. Use Chris alt custom in RE5 instead:

https://i.gyazo.com/fdacfbcc3ce71db7e4c679f35d194ffc.png

First off, like I already said: Voldo is extremely sexualized, just not for you. He is the MOST sexualized person in Soul Calibur. It's just not your fetish. There are definitely people who jerk off to Voldo, if you really don't think so you haven't been on the Internet long enough.

But yes, your Chris alt custom Mad Max reference is actually a good example! Look at him, he's shirtless, wearing leather, is especially rugged and is posing in an almost inviting way. Very sexy and alluring!

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/videogamehistory/images/d/da/Liukang.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090803042613

This is Liu Kang. He's the protagonist of Mortal Kombat, and is a shirtless kung fu guy. He's wearing even less clothes than Chris here, but he doesn't look inviting at all, he looks like he's about to throw hands. He's also shirtless, but as sexualized as Chris in that picture. Not at all, really.

And even then neither of them even come close to the level of fetishization as someone like Ivy or Voldo. If you really say so, you're just pretending. A shirtless guy with some chaps on is not anywhere the same level as either. A guy isn't as eroticized as Ivy just because he's muscular and not wearing a shirt.

Have you ever read or watched JoJo's Bizarre Adventure? Now THAT is a series that serves as a great example of extremely sexualized dudes. The whole thirty-year-long series is extremely thirsty for dudes. Some screencaps grabbed off of Google.

You can pretend otherwise, but no, your standard shirtless karate guy doesn't look like this. I'm not saying every fighting game needs to look like JoJo's. But it serves as an example to show to demonstrate that, no, Liu Kang and Ivy are not the same thing. Pretending that they're the same thing isn't constructive. Ivy (and also Voldo and most JoJo guys) go way beyond just not wearing a shirt.

Bear in mind, I'm saying all this but it sounds like I mostly agree with you anyways. I literally have no problem with all the pretty half-naked chicks in video games. I'm just saying that a muscular shirtless dude is just not quite the same thing.

Another consideration:

Kayane is almost definitely the best woman at fighting games in the world and she plays Soul Calibur. These days she mains Xianghua and 2B. (And I think her handle is a combination of Kasume + Ayane from Dead Or Alive, another notoriously fanservicey fighting game.) Kayane has a lot of major-tournament victories, and she was in top 8 at Soul Calibur 6 last evo (which was the biggest Soul Calibur tournament ever at over 700 entrants). She's been winning Soul Calibur tournaments since she was 13 years old. The character Lexia in Soul Calibur 5 was specifically designed to look like Kayane as a homage.

So why do so many people have a problem with Soul Calibur's female character designs, but not Kayane? Also in my (admittedly anecdotal) experience, at fighting game majors, it's usually the SC and DOA tournaments that have the most women playing. Why is that?

a vocal minority of gamers have terrible taste. Makes it embarrassing to play games when you are fighting against this

https://youtu.be/b3CKosvrqPo

See, this is what I'm talking about where games have fanservice with literally no consideration to aesthetic. Look how ridiculous this scene looks.

Just fucking look at this scene. Two women are wearing dental floss outfits and having an argument. While they're standing in a field of corpses. Jade and Kitana are arguing about Kitana's dad while there's a rotting dead guy in the background, with flies buzzing around his flesh. IDK about you, but I never just hang out there, especially while practically naked. At least they're wearing masks lol, I would be scared to even breathe the air of that beach.

This is where I like, entirely agree with you. The devs just kind of thoughtlessly gave the characters D-Cup titties and squeezed them into outfits made of thin straps of silk and have them mingle with literal maggot food. With literally no regard to the contrast. It makes the scene impossible to take seriously. It's like how I mentioned all the survival horror games with half-naked women, or military action games where all the girls wear camo-bikinis. It looks dumb and makes the designs stand out like a sore them.

Kitana and Jade are sexy character designs that probably SHOULD be sexy. (Tho if you go back to the early days of MK1 and 2, the women are had kind of distinctly conservative outfits back then compared to these days, so I guess that's arguable.) But there should be SOME considerations to context, setting and aesthetic. I remember maining Jade back in MK9, and it always bothered me how, by the time I won and got to Jade's win pose, she would pose with her pole like a stripper... while covered in blood, guts and had several open flesh woods. All the gore destroyed any style or fanservice this might have had. I also played Repitle (in his OG outfit), and he would look stupid as hell by the end of the match with half his face torn off.

Edit: This is all especially bad because, one of the most consistent criticism I ever heard launched at NRS over the last decade? That their female characters have ugly man faces. (You can't really tell in the linked scene tho because Kitana and Jade wear masks.) For the life of them, NRS seemed physically incapable of designing a girl with an attractive face, in both Mortal Kombat and Injustice. It almost seems like they were doing all the D-Cup String Bikini outfits specifically to compensate for the fact that their character models are actually quite ugly. It wasn't until around Injustice 2 or MK11 that they seemed to figure out how to do this.

Except it doesnt. Women want to look sexy too. Look at underwear packaging for both genders. Its sexy women and sexy men.

Its a double standard to say The guys arent being objectified! Just the women! when the same thing is happening to both.

It doesnt have to be overtly sexual to be sexualized. He-Man vs Barbie.

I somewhat agree, but I was conceding the point to make another point.

I don't think your standard shirtless kungfu guy is as sexualized as, say, Voldo or Ivy. You can be willfully obtuse about it but a shirtless man just isn't the same as a shirtless woman. People who pretend they are just that, pretending.

But I do think people tend to not notice when the male body is consistently on display in media. Male superheros in particular tend to be jacked as all hell and also where skintight bodysuits (not unlike SC's Taki). Spider-Man in particular has been pretty consistently depicted with a slim-buff body and a bubble ass in his skintight suit. I was actually disappointed when I played the new Spider-Man game and Peter Parker suddenly has a flat, Hank Hill ass lol. But for some reason the character designs of male superheros are never controversial.

if Voldo was hot and didnt look like gray zombie maybe youd have a point but I assure you not many people nor gay men are turned on by Voldo

You said your account was made in 2003. Surely you've been on the Internet long enough to know that's just not true lol. There are definitely freaks out there and Voldo caters to that exact fetish. It's just not your fetish. Sure Taki's character design is going to have more broad appeal (pretty much every heterosexual male), but Voldo is even more sexualized than Taki. Just for a more niche audience.

But if we're going to bring up a more normal example, I can't really commit for myself but gay + male Soul Calibur players seem to like Maxi a lot. They tend to think he's really hot. I don't really see it myself, but that's not particularly my lane. I think it's the way he rocks his open jacket to show off his abs.

I remember they all looked good in SC2 but then they went too far in SC4 and it just looked ridiculous. They made Ivys boobs like twice as big, filled em up with bouncy helium, and tore up her outfit into strings.

why

Yea SC4 was when they really went too far and have been toning it down since then. (Not just in the extremely fanservicey female designs mind you, most of the men also just had eye-cancer outfits. The game was just pretty ugly in general, still have to wonder what they were thinking with Lava-Astaroth and Crystal-Siegfried.) I distinctly remember this being something near-everyone seemed to agree on back when the game was new. Back in the pre-GamerGate days, everyone seemed to complain about the designs of Ivy and Sophitia were in SC4. Not for any feminist or SJW reason mind you, people just thought it was stupid and ugly-looking, to the point where it ceased to be sexy. I guess there is such a thing as too big!

So for the TC complaining, they've actually been toning it down since a lot since SC4 lol. 5 in particular seemed to be going out of its way not to be too sexy, but it wasn't well received. I think a lot of it isn't a matter of whether or not it's too sexualized or not, but a matter of competence. While I think SC6 definitely leans more toward the fanservicey side of things, it pulls it off with more competence and is less of an overbearing eyesore than in 4 and even 3.

--- (wall of text below, the rest isn't specifically replying to you, just some of my general thoughts)

Personally I'm fine with sexy character designs in fiction because, well, it's fiction and fictional people can't be oppressed and objectified so who cares? But I think there's the matter of aesthetic consistency that developers constantly ignore. I think too many games (especially Japanese ones) are too fanservicey for their tone and setting. Like you'll have women running around in their underwear in what are supposed to be gritty survival horror games. Military action games where the male characters designs make perfect sense but the female members of the squad will conspicuously always wear combat camoflague bikinis with a belt that has a couple pouches. It becomes hard to take the game seriously.

Something like Soul Calibur pulls it off better than most, despite its ostensibly historical setting, because it has more of a pulp fantasy-novel / early DnD book, kind of aethestic. Chainmail bikinis and such. It's a world where people get stabbed with swords a lot but never die and shoot magic sparks and fire with their swings. The beautiful half-naked women come with the territory, it's part of the highly fictionalized aesthetics of the series. The late Frank Frazetta would probably have liked it a lot.

I think it's especially fine if the fanservice swings both ways. A hear a lot of people say that muscular shirtless men don't count, it's a false equivalence with buxom half-naked women because "it's not male objectification, it's a male power fantasy." Which, okay sure I guess that makes sense, a topless man isn't the same as a topless woman so I guess that follows. But why does, when talking about the gender politics of Soul Calibur for the upteenth time, no one ever brings up Voldo?

Voldo is the MOST sexualized character in the series. (And this is the same series where the Greek women will sit on your face for their throw animations.) He's constantly portrayed as some kind of BDSM gimp with leather, and he loves to attack you with the crotch of his spiked thong. His leather outfits are usually riding right up his ass cheeks and he is always wearing a gag in his mouth and communicates entirely with moans and groans. To say nothing of the concept of his Mantis stance, and his win poses. Is that a male power fantasy too?

Like granted, SC still caters to a heterosexual male audience, and there's going to be a lot more girls that look like Ivy and Taki than guys that look like Voldo. The point I'm making tho is that the designs CAN swing both ways and nobody seems to appreciate that, nor notice when it does. I mentioned Frank Frazetta, reknowned artist primarily known for painting naked women in DnD-style fantasy settings. But no one seems to appreciate that he also painted a lot of barbarians killing shit with their cocks hanging out lol. But no one ever complains about oppression when dudes get naked.

Basically I'm saying, it's fine for fiction to sexualize women IMO. It should also be fine to sexualize men in the same manner. But for some reason it's only big boobs are controversial.
