I've been attacked with a few essays full of biblical quotes, but this was inspired by the YouTube comments I just got where I replied to an internet arguer about something on a video of a sitcom.

Of what I read, s/he said I was to blame for this "ancient disease" that's going to end the world, because I went to Antarctica to see the world...?

An example for option 2 is the classic 'What are you playing?' topic - a guy wanting to tell everyone what he's playing and hoping people reply and ask about it. But everyone just replies for that same reason, so it dies off with not a single soul reading anyone else or discussing.

(Or swap any 'you / your' in a title with 'me / my'.)

People who do nothing always expect the government to save them without even trying. Safety should be a priority over social media and entertainment.

You can still get infected wearing a face mask.

There's less interest because time has passed. This is a country where some Remainers voted for Brexit this election because they were 'bored' of it now. Though the stats coming out showing such a low rate of death helps. It's probably a case of 'I'll save being scared for if it ever even comes here, and even then I like my odds".

No such thing as an ineffective face mask if there aren't any n95's available. The odds of getting the virus airborne is extremely low. What it does however is help you avoid touching your face as much. Contact is the main way you get infected.

People aren't wearing them because it reminds them to not touch their face; they're wearing them because they think it filters out the flu, while they're rubbing their eyes and whatever.

Come on, am I gonna agree with the medical experts or a guy on the internet who disagrees with them anyway?

Yeah, catching flu in the air is 'low' risk, but that doesn't stop us all fucking getting at least a cold 2 or 3 times every sodding Christmas no matter how much antibacterial gel we use.

Exact opposite. 'People' can be made hysterical about anything, and will always fear the latest disease. There are even people going out wearing ineffective face masks because they'll take anything seriously.

Death rate's dropped, even at ground zero in Hubei. 2.04% death rate in China overall now. Still only one person has died outside China, in a developing neighbour. Rate's not even 0.4%.

And it only has about a month to live before it's wiped out anyway. 'Cause it's a flu.

Also for those of us braving the London Underground today god speed.

Those are comforting stats.

Roughly 7 per 220 known cases died in Hubei.

But outside there, where they've been more prepared to track it, it becomes a miniscule in 1 in 600, and that's China.

Internationally there's just 1 death, in a still developing country (not quite an LEDC).

And this isn't even counting the probable thousands who may have had it and just thought it was normal flu.

Because this is how the news works. It's a business not a public service, so they manufacture and market to sell more. When there's no story to market with big scary headlines and exaggeration, they manufacture.

As someone who recently turned 30, this happened with CJD (mad cow disease), an abundance of flus with animal names, Ebola and now this. Once you've 'lived' through a few apocalypses, it's nothing.

TBH I can see it being 'Nakers' with her accent and she apparently did accidentally say 'Knicks' earlier. But I'm not an internet warrior.

Honestly this, when otherwise healthy and vaccinated people start getting sick, it's a problem. The numbers are scary, and not to be ignored. But, vast swaths of China do not have access to current medical care.
I'm not disregarding the loss of life, but there's a big disparity to the quality of healthcare in this outbreak

Heck I'm fine with being sick rather than dead. The big numbers are scary until we delve deeper eg. that storm with the big scary 70 on it is actually in KPH.

Or the big scary virus actually only killed 15 more people so far, in a city of 11m people and a province of 60m. And that's at ground zero. No idea how many were in poverty either, like you say.

You know, realistically, there's nothing we can do as individual expect to keep ourselves clean and place our faith in the Medical Authorities.

In the meantime, let's entertain ourselves with videos from Chinese social media showing suituations on Ground Zero and in some case, people melting down. Don't think we have that during SARS and I have a bunch here.

That's the news. I don't watch or read it any more, and many people's lives would be a little healthier and happier for it.

I'll worry about this if it comes over here and starts killing a lot of healthy people. Then I'm all aboard the nope train.
