everything looks doable in Celeste when you watch a video.

remember, Giggs, you can turn on assist mode and push through if you dislike the Core gimmick. it's not a bad thing! also, you can do the first half of Farewell without needing all the hearts.

all good points! I might do that at some point. I wouldn't actually say that I dislike the Core gimmick (I found 8A lots of fun), 8B just felt like a clear step-up in difficulty.

All of the C-Sides are much shorter if that changes your mind any! They're all two short screens and one long screen if I remember correctly.

Chapter 9, however, is the longest chapter in the game by far.

Yeah, after I "gave up" I watched a playthrough video of the C-sides, and I think I could manage a lot of them. Unfortunately, they're inaccessible to me until I fight through 8B. Maybe one day!

I recently fought my way to the top of the B-side mountain and i loved it. i've never been especially skilled at games like this and the feeling of accomplishment was amazing. I'd be up for trying some of the C-sides, but 8B felt like a complete wall to me and i'm now completely content to admit defeat, at least for the time being. every screen felt like it was on the level of the hardest rooms from 7B, and it just stopped being fun.

what a game though, holy shit.

Voted 3. Definitely satisfying, but so clean and redemptive that it all felt slightly silly. Easy to see where the theory that the final sequence is a dying dream comes from.

Yeah, a few of the fights probably offer cooler set pieces, but I voted Raven for that reason. It's the closest thing that MGS has to the boss style later in the series where you can find a new way to take them down every time. Plus I have a soft spot for Raven as a character, he's super underrated in general.

What an amazing game though, sheesh. The sequels improved on it in such obvious ways but MGS1 is a near-perfect package in a way that nothing else in the series comes close to.
