How could Shovel Knight lose? Especially since it has so much going for it.

Do you think that Shovel Knight has more going for it than Freaking Mario?

Snow Crash Universe: I love how much Snow Crash predicted the future of the internet, right down to penis-based chat avatars, but still thought Japan would be Americas main rival instead of China. It even predicted edgelords with katanas. Basically everything in this book is great. The mafia being the good guys, the United States government being so bureaucratic that it cant accomplish anything and people dont remember who the president is, inflation meaning it costs billions of dollars to remove graffiti, and the authors fascination with Sumerian mythology, where hell stop the plot for pages to explain obscure Sumerian lore. Man! Remember when he kickstarted a VR game about swordfighting, then just didnt make it? Anyway, as far as Im concerned, Snow Crash and Diamond Age are the end of cyberpunk as a genre. Snow Crash completely deconstructs this genre and explains why its silly and insane, but in a really fun way that shows respect to it. What are you going to do with the genre after that? Ill tell you: nothing of value.

But Diamond Age was written after Snow Crash?

Why would I give Skyrim credit for dozens of people outside of Bethesda devoting their free time to making the game something other than a bland mess?

what you give credit for isnt really relevant. The Elder Scrolls fanbase absolutely takes mods into account.

I think Skyrim is one of the most overhyped games in the bracket. The best I could see it doing is making it to top 8 to lose to Dark Souls. At worst, I'm not even 100% confident it beats Mario Kart 8.

It's gonna depend on whether people see it as voting for Skyrim and it's laundry list of impressive mods, or if they're just voting for the original 2011 base game. And I feel like more people are going to be basing their votes off just the base game without mods which has fallen out of favor in recent years.

Honestly the Mario Kart 8 match-up also kind of depends on if people consider the DLC and the battle mode changes added to the Deluxe Switch port as part of their vote or if they're just voting based on the original release. That makes MK8 vs. Skyrim a really weird and unpredictable match-up since both games could be much better or much worse depending on the psychology of what people think they are voting for.

Err, no one ever considers an Elder Scrolls game as, just the base game with no mods unless that game just came out within the last year.

Also I read an article (need to find it) that makes the apt comparison of the whisperers of fate being basically us playing the game/the hype of the remake itself. This meta aspect is kinda similar to the hype of what MGS2 went through.

Clever meta shit like this almost always ends up being godawful unless its appearing in a parody, or the writer is a genius. This is the kind of shit that Barkley, Shut Up and Jam Gaiden or Kojima can pull off. Square? Just no.

Finally, someone gets it.

I understand if you wanted a full-on no changes remake then you might be a smidge disappointed, but this is cool too.

I mean, I would be ok with this if I actually trusted current Square to be able to competently handle these kind of storyline shenanigans.

Does anyone here trust them to do that?

I saw Spiderman: Homecoming with a 65 year-old man who'd never seen a Marvel movie before. All throughout it, I was wondering how he felt. FF7R gives me a similar feeling. Do people who have never touched FF7 and know nothing about it understand what's happening?

Well? Did he like it?
