Chrono Trigger is the biggest RPG here for the last 2D console.

Walking Dead was bottom 5 in whatever value BGE2 stats have, although it was behind all sorts of Undertale shenanigans and RBY/Sonic 2, but unless Pokemon SFFed Sonic 2 to death then that's probably fair for Walking Dead.

It could easily be weaker now than it was back then.

ME2 might still take its division on the basis of how weak the rest of it is, but this result should make anyone betting on it being upset along the way pretty happy. It's possible those RE7 GotY polls were completely fraudulent, but it takes a lot to go from getting destroyed by Doki Doki and Cuphead to being worthwhile.

Mass Effect 2 would be far from the first game to completely fall off the map once people have moved on from the series.

That said, for all the indie talk, Mass Effect 2 is looking lucky that it isn't facing Cuphead next round.

Plus it's not as though XV will be a bastion of strength itself. Probably.

The thing with something like Edith Finch is that you could tell me every game in the bracket gets 70% on it and I would go "Eh...I could see it I guess?"

The other ones weren't the bastion of JRPG hope in a sea of nothing. That's the reason Symphonia is worth anything in the contests. Tales without bonus popularity for being on Nintendo is...Star Ocean.

The other possibility is, of course, that modern entries are just weird and have a ceiling of how well they can do against anything worth even the slightest bit, but also a floor of how poorly they can do if they're worth anything.

...Like our buddy Master Chief for a while.
