IIRC, the story ends with her deciding to try and put her life back on track when she learns she's pregnant. She gives up drugs and begins hoarding the money she earns hooking until she can get an apartment (or hospital bills or something). And then a group of asshole teenagers find her with the money she's saved, beat the shit out of her, kick her in the stomach, and rob her. There's a scene where she's talking to her daughter, happy in a park, but it's ambiguous whether that actually happens or if it's just something she imagines as she bleeds to death from a miscarriage.
