If I remember right. The rope itself prevented a lot of people from jumping the gap. That was the point. You had to jump with no safety to actually achieve it.

That's not even possible. You have as much rope as you need when you're near the top of the pit where the ledge is. You can have as much slack as possible when you make that jump.

And even if the rope was the thing that was preventing them from making jump, then why even bother trying at all? "gee, this rope is two feet too short and pulls me down every time I try, so I'll just keep hoping it somehow grows this time"

... i don't think you understand how ropes work. there's some kind of anchor near the top of the well where the rope was looped around, as clearly shown in the movie.

the climbers were tied in from the ground before they started. meaning the length of the rope reaches the ground. if nothing was taking up the slack as you were climbing, then you'd just fall all the way back to the ground whenever you fell, killing you.

so there is a belayer. but then it makes zero sense why he stops taking up the slack somewhere pretty low, so that every time someone fell from high up, they'd take a massive fall and smash into the side of the pit.

"not fearing death" does not give you an extra two feet of hops

first of all, why are the people who fall from the jump falling so far? someone is belaying the rope right? there has to be, because the climbers don't fall to the ground when they fail. and since it's just a rope tied to their waist, falling with that should cause massive injuries

second, the ledge jump was utterly ridiculous. there's no way a little girl less than 5 feet tall is outjumping 6 ft tall guys. and they were missing by a good distance, that means her hops were completely superhuman. and there is no logic to why they couldn't make the jump with the rope but could without it

I don't know why you're trying to act like people have been saying it since the song came out. Back in the early 2000s, we didn't say things that made no sense. Stan isn't a verb, it's a name. You can't "stan" something. This is obviously some zoomer creation.
