Either they have a very limited view of police duties as only about "stopping violent crime" or they're fully aware of other duties and want to get rid of the people that ticket them for jaywalking or speeding, give out DUIs, and enforce those laws about weed they don't want to follow.

More like other duties could be handled better by people actually trained for them and with methods that uplift the community rather than pump cash into the govt piggybank.

Police are not there to help the community, and the sooner they are gone the better. Very few incidents they respond to require an armed presence, and would be much better handled with social workers; domestic councilors, addiction councilors, and so on.

Maybe racial segregation and a school funding system that was created to preserve it and relies on it is the problem? Not shifting around which schools people can go to while they're still stuck in an otherwise dysfunctional and abandoned neighborhood. "School choice" is the solution for people who take racial segregation as a given or consider it inevitable or even good.

Theres also this. The fact that our country operates such that there is such a MASSIVE disparity between PUBLIC schools is fucking nuts and completely unacceptable.

The US has the largest prison population in the world by both percentage and raw number. It also has a pervasive culture of violence with an emphasis on punishment instead of reform. People think if they just replace the bottom-rung of the justice system, cops, with "good people" it will get better. They pick pet issues like police unions or private prisons to distract from the top-down pervasiveness of the problem. If you don't think firing all the teachers and getting rid of their unions would make American education (which already spends more per student than any other country) stop putting up 3rd world results, why would you expect that to work for police? I mean, yeah, this is what I mean. Its so deeply rooted that nothing short of a complete societal upheaval and restructuring will fix it, something so completely beyond the scope of anything that has ever been done without mass violence and suffering. Its insanely disheartening that its become so hopeless that nothing short of Rome falling would produce change, because obviously that would also be terrible and have a massive impact far beyond just unrest on our own soil.

Incidents of the police being violent towards non violent people are extremely rare, despite what CNN tells you. This last guy that got killed dealing with the cops fought them and disarmed them while intoxicated, and apparently it's the cops' fault.

the only way to solve this is to totally tear down the entire police system in the US and start over. we have to fire every cop. shut down all the PD's. destroy the Police Unions. and close up all the academies. and then once that is done we can rebuild a new system.

And that is why it will never be fixed. Its so deeply ingrained in our culture that we cant escape it. The number of non-cops who have been brainwashed to think police brutality, discrimination, and general incompetence is acceptable and even desirable is fucking baffling.

Like them or not, they all earned enough support to move on through their primaries.
