Going to get started on building my first gaming PC when I move, but if you know me, you know I have a shit ton of older physical media from the 90s and 00s that I refuse to part with.

It seems like the "simplest" solution here is to play my games on DOSBox, but I really would prefer not to have to download multiple OSs and enter command prompts every time I want to load a game. Is there any configuration that is more efficient here?

Or should I just give up and build a second PC with optimized specs for these older games?

Alex Berenson has been a great follow for anyone who wants to balance the covid modeling with some optimism. His theory is essentially that the hospitalization curve is a more reliable indicator for overall deaths, and it's currently VERY out of line with the doomsday models.

Why is it always that "centrists" like LotM immediately latch onto mandatory X or forced Y, rather than education and choice? When this is all done I may go back to school for psychology because this is morbidly fascinating.

Why do you feel the need to lie just to "win" an argument? Sensible people have never advocated for doing nothing. I personally supported voluntary quarantines for the at-risk population (which accounts for >90% of deaths) and increasing medical supplies and hospital rooms. Not nuking the economy.

I truly think some people are so excited that this is happening because it's finally giving them the excuse to live their sheltered lives. The world is a scary place for some, and now it is socially acceptable (laudable!) to hide from it.

Between those people and the virtue signalers who at last can truly convince themselves that their words and social directives are literally saving lives, you have a sizable chunk of the population who is in their god damn element right now.

While you may be right, I think we need to pump the brakes on assuming you are right. You are using a lot of assumptions to get where you are. Even the Imperial College made it known they were working on assumptions

No, because youre still failing to grasp the simple concept that the number of deaths is extremely dependent on our response. If we fail to have a sufficiently effective response (R>1 indefinitely), the majority of the country will get it because it spreads exponentially and anyone who can do fucking multiplication can see that there will be millions of deaths given the fatality rate. If we can keep R<1, the number of deaths is highly sensitive to how quickly we achieve that.

My bankroll is my cancelled vacation fund and my lawn tractor fund. Most of my investments lost a ton of $$ and I've tried to increase my weekly investment amount by a factor of 3 during this time, but, it's still a big dent.

With the stimulus package in place I think my next concern is what companies will weather Q2 the best. In terms of investments I'm mostly into XOM and WFC.

So my investments took a massive hit, because as you can imagine I've been in for a long time. But cash flow has been given a nice bump and I can take bigger risks with it. But it's nowhere near the loss of investments for me.

Gotta take the Renaissance route and just cash out at intelligent intervals, take the tax hits, then reinvest the principal in other sectors. I have so many friends whose entire earnings were wiped out in this past month because they didn't want to pay 15% capital gains taxes on them. It's crazy.

I actually just fed more money in as I was posting that previous post. Even if I get in "late," I am assuming all of the airline (and Boeing) stocks will at least double by this time next year. I am more than happy with 100% returns.

Glad I got in on the airline stocks almost at their nadir. Pissed I didn't have the guts to throw more in there, but I suppose having liquid cash isn't the worst thing in the world. I think I am poised to make enough for a sizable down payment on a house after this is all said and done.

Unsurprisingly, Trump's approval ratings have shot up--almost certainly because he is seemingly the only major politician who understands that the dangers of "shelter in place" far outweigh the risks of going to work and spreading coronavirus. The fact that the Democrats are conflating with his desire to get people back to work so they can feed their families or save their small businesses as "only caring about Wall Street" just shows how ludicrously out of touch they are.

I strongly advise actually leaving the echo chambers of this topic, Twitter, Facebook, etc. and talking to real people who are affected by the government-mandated closures. I can assure you that their opinions align more closely with those of me and @SmartMuffin , despite what the GameFAQs stasi may think.

Without any precautions the majority of the country will end up getting the virus. If 60% get it (where herd immunity kicks in if R0=2.5; really you'll go above that because more people will be infected as it winds down) and you have a 5% death rate because you've overwhelmed the hospitals that's 10 million deaths. Say we're wrong about the fatality rate and it's somehow only .5%; that's still 1 million deaths!

So if (when) this doesn't happen, the only explanation for why is because states banned public gatherings?
