I think the main problem is that the right are clearly more tribalistic than the left, which makes them stronger in a fight or a vote.

Car wouldn't start. I did a scan. Injector fault showing. Uh oh. Called the mechanic. Then called another mechanic. Then actually took it in to mechanic 1.

Mechanic 1: Aye it's gonnae be your injectors. Also with injectors you're looking at the wiring loom, stretch bolts, and then recoding them all. You're looking at a cool 200 per injector and then the labour, this is gonna be a near 2k job.
Mechanic 2: Well aye generally he's right but with your car you don't need to code them. You could also get refurbed injectors for around 200 for the whole lot. So I could maybe do it for around 700.
Mechanic 1 (again): Well...we looked at it. Turns out it was just your fuel pump. It's all fixed, 200 please.

My workplace has super strict restrictions and you need to hit every qualification to move to the next step. Some workplaces are going to be flexible.

Yes, if you are a RGN level 1 qualified nurse applying for an RGN level 2 position you won't get it. But if you are a copywriter with 2 years experience applying for a role that says it needs 5 years experience and a degree, you have a chance depending on your work.

I was making a general point about how people shouldn't be automatically discouraged from a job because they don't match the job spec 100%. That's not to say you will get the job if you apply. Ultimately there's a process and the company will pick the best candidate on an array of factors, not just who has the most experience.

Well I make job specs and interview new hires, for starters.

When you're creating job specs you typically oversell the position in the hopes of getting the highest caliber of applicants. You know that people will lie in their CVs so you advertise for a bunch of "nice to haves" that you don't truthfully expect a qualified applicant to need.

It might be our policy to demand someone with a degree and several years experience, but depending on the role quite often we'd just be happy to get someone who is switched on, has similar skills in a similarly spaced industry and has some kind of proven track record.

If you're going to ask, "why not just advertise for the exact skills you need", it's because applicants lie just as hard as companies do. Role-fulfillment is a negotation, overselling on both sides is usually the first barter chip put down on the table.

This type of thought process is awful and contributes to the problem.

No man, that's not what I'm saying at all.

You are in a situation where you can choose to make the most of it, or not.

It's possible to hate this situation, discuss it with the hope for long term social change and so on...but also game it the best you can. That's what I suggest you do.

So I get it, it's sucky that job ads lie about what they want from you. You should still do your best to overcome that and cut through the bullshit instead of just stop at the first obstacle.

I find the meme that vegans are obnoxious and in your face to be largely untrue, but one thing they consistently lie about is how good Seitan and Quorn and Jackfruit are. Seitan tastes like pork in the same way that banana skids taste like real banana.

And I'm not suggesting anyone has to care about it. I'm just saying it bothers me more now than it ever used to.

I've been thinking more about it.

I have no problem with animals dying to become food. What I'm finding harder to accept is the cruel way we make them live in order to become food.

With that said, I'll admit I'm selfish. Vegans tell me that all the substitutes these days are so good you won't miss meat. They are absolutely lying about that.

Why would they accept someone who doesn't have the experience they want when they can get someone with the experience they want?

If they find a better candidate they find a better candidate.

I'm just saying, don't take a job spec at face value. Sometimes the more experienced candidate might be overqualified too, which is gonna be a bigger turn off for most employers than someone underqualified.

• The pacing was already bad at this point but it feels positively lightning quick compared to recent arcs
• Sogeking. I missed Sogeking. They really need to bring this gag back.
• Robin is an interesting, vibrant and snappy character. She has an edge to her and is useful in a fight. What the fuck happened?
• Zoro had more personality too. He smiled and said demonic things all the time. I feel they've made him too much into the strong silent type
• Sanji was the strategy mastermind at this point in the series. He always went off on some mystery excursion which later saved the entire crew. They kind of made him the ultimate jobber after this arc.
• I like all the characters now but I do feel there are too many straw hats now for the plot to be pacy and give meaningful character development. Not everyone agrees but it seems like now there's just a lot of obligation to give each character enough screen time to get out their main gag.

I suspect a lot of people who make memes about how it's impossible to find a job are just sucky at applying for them.

Just because a job ad says you need 5 years experience and a PHD does not mean that it does. A lot of the time they just want to see if you're ballsy enough to apply anyway.

Not to oversimplify the problems with the job market, but if you let an unrealistic job spec scare you off then that's your own problem

I dated a girl who lived full time in one.

Pros:
- minimal outgoings
- absolute freedom to live wherever
- feeling of cosiness
- road trips whenever you want
- she set up a little wood burner fireplace which was awesome

Cons:
- hygiene. You'll be showering at the gym, washing bed sheets at the laundromat. Its effort and you'll get lazy sometimes
- pooing in the same place you hang out all the time
- gets clusterphobic
- gets cold
- cooking is a pain in the ass
- if your van breaks then you are homeless
- sometimes feels unsafe
- all basic tasks are more of a pain in the ass.

My point was just that people have this image of a gangbanger junkie running a dirty operation out of a dilapidated mcmansion in the burbs, but really a lot of dealers are just regular people you would assume were accountants, students, office workers, etc.
