• I just realized that Dhurke and Apollo have the same eyebrow shape, while Dhurke and Nahyuta don't. Perhaps Dhurke is Apollo's real father instead of his adoptive father? Who knowwwwwssssss except everyone else in this topic.

Edgeworth in 1-4 (the DL-6 case, specifically, not the Robert Hammond killing), Maya in 2-2, Wocky in 4-2 (maybe? He does seem legit confused as to what happened), Athena in 5-5, Trucy in 6-2, Dhurke in 6-5.

I think that's about it. But most past cases like DL-6 have someone thinking either they killed the victim or someone they care about killed the victim.

• I really like how Atishon's placard keeps the scotch tape on it after he breaks it, that's never happened before for witnesses with items that break.
• I just realized, is Armie's mother "ex-Russian military" just to justify her having blonde hair and blue eyes in Japan? Because Athena has red hair and blue eyes.
• I don't know the name of the song, but this is really good 'two friends put into a dramatic situation' music.
• I guess it makes sense that Apollo hasn't already figured out what the "bestowing soul power" part means, since he's not versed in spirit channeling stuff, but man, it's excruciating as a player when you figure it out in one second and have to watch everyone else act clueless.
• Quality breakdown by Atishon.
• I guess I was wrong about Phoenix taking over in the latter half of the case, so be it.
• We don't get to see the person talking over the phone, we're just told it's Inga, so I'm guessing it's the queen.
• Unnecessary evidence foisted onto Trucy.
• Good thing jetlag doesn't exist in this universe. I can only imagine a plane trip from LA to Khura'in takes like 12 hours.
• Okay, does anyone have a count of how many cases involve the defendant not knowing if they killed the victim? Because this is at least number five. Hell, this is number two in a single game.
• I refuse to believe that Dhurke being married to Amara would not have come up in conversation before this.
• So much effort has been spent making sure we know that the queen can channel spirits, but we haven't seen her do it yet, so I can only assume that she's been secretly channeling a spirit the entire game and we've never met the 'real' queen, or that this is an impostor or something.
• Two brothers fighting to prosecute and defend their father, I suppose that's reasonably climatic, yeah.

Apollo doesn't actually seem that obsessed with finding the truth. He doesn't talk about it that much. He's actually the type of guy who seems to care more about catching the bad guy than anything else because of his strong sense of right and wrong. He cares more about living up to his namesake of justice than finding the truth.

But even with his mentor being a murderer, they don't even explore how Apollo feels about Kristoph that much. There's a bit of conflict initially, and then he sides with Phoenix Wright because he's Phoenix Wright. Phoenix's backstory is simple, but it exists. What was Apollo's motivation for becoming a lawyer? You don't know. What was his relationship with Kristoph like? You don't know. How does he feel about growing up as an orphan? He literally never talks about himself (which they wisely use as a deflecting character trait in the 5th and 6th games), so what do you actually know about Apollo the person that made him who he is in the timeline of the games? Not much.

Like, you're getting caught up in his similarity to Phoenix and the fact that they're going to be compared to each other, but that's not backstory or character development.

I always felt like Apollo was a truth seeker as well, but it's possible I misinterpreted him, it's true. But you're definitely correct in that we should have had more about his relationship with Kristoph, that's a good point I hadn't considered. I can admit that learning more about his backstory does make him a little more interesting, I suppose, but I can't say more until I learn it all. I'll admit, I may be too hard on Apollo for bad reasons, so I'm going to reconsider this after I finish the game.

• Athena fell asleep waiting at the airport in a car? I can 100% guarantee that is not possible at LAX or Burbank. Hot tip: if you need to fly into LA and have the choice between LAX and the Burbank Airport, choose Burbank.
• The absolute most shocking moment of this game was when Atishon got out of his campaign-mobile and stood up. I expected him to leave it, but I had no idea that they would model him standing. I was sure they was just keep him sitting and leaning back.
• I went three whole games without realizing Ema wears sandals until just now.
• "Don't tell me--" "Oh, but I will anyway."
• Ah, nmail. I have several accounts there myself.
• "My grandfather thinks highly of my talents as a politician. That's why he entrusted me with this very important name placard. It was crafted from the finest Italian plastic."
• There's a gallery for this civil case? Well, okay.
• I'm, uh, not sure a civil case if the best place to reveal that a murder took place. I feel like Ema would be required to report that to the police on her own. Also, to examine the doctor's head wound on her own. Also, to not accept Phoenix's request for autopsy and to only accept the family's. Also, to admit that she's a forensics expert and not a medical examiner.
• "A new witness? I wonder who it could be?" Gee, could it be the only other person introduced this case with a model?
• So, initially I thought "Datz Are'bal" was "That's horrible," but was it a secret double pun for "That's our ball," as in ball=orb? Because that's either genius or I'm Hugh O'Connering this.
• I would have bet anything that Sergeant Buff would be a little girl, and I was right. Didn't expect "Armie Buff," though.
• Oh my God, someone animated Apollo using a lighter on this orb. I take it back, this is the most shocking thing in the game. This is like when AA1 had four individual Yakuza guys pop up behind... whatever her name was.
• So, how does spirit channeling resolve someone's face changing over time? Like what happens if Maya needs to channel that guy who fought in Iraq and got his face melted off? Just a thought.
• Guessing that Maya is being held hostage or whatever by the politician.
• Pausing after Phoenix claims that the orb is fake because there's no spiritual power.

You've already said that you consider Apollo the least interesting of the lawyers, and I imagine the lack of backstory is probably a contributing factor since Athena got more backstory in one game that wasn't even hers than Apollo got in two.

Oh, okay. Well, Apollo's backstory to this game had been about as complicated as Phoenix's (maybe slightly more): he was abandoned by his parents and eventually decided to become a lawyer, learned his mentor was a murderer, and decided that being a lawyer meant he had to pursue the truth. Phoenix's entire backstory is "I was accused of a crime I didn't commit, and seeing someone defend me made me want to defend others." Those are basically equal backstories.

The 'pursue the truth' part is something that's similar to Phoenix. I guess that's the problem I meant. Until now, Apollo kind of came across as a less experienced Phoenix: they're both generally nice guys who want to find the truth and help people, but are constantly flying by the seat of their pants. Aside from being put-upon by Trucy and his bracelet, most scenarios with Apollo feel like they would be similarly handled by Phoenix, the exception being the completely absurd Punished Apollo in AA5 (and I liked Punished Apollo as much as anyone). It probably doesn't help that Apollo's rival was both extremely lame and disappeared after AA4, whereas Edgeworth just will not stop showing up. Like, if the character of Phoenix Wright never existed, or if AA4 was the first game, then maybe I'd like Apollo more, but if he's put in situations where he has to be compared to Phoenix, he will always compare unfavorably. By contrast, Athena has a completely different personality and skillset from the others, which helps her stand apart even if her backstory is weirder and crazier.

Although, as I said, I'm playing through the "Apollo backstory" case right now, so we'll see how it goes.

Original US release date was Sept 8, 2016. So the US was pretty much into the final stretch leading up to the 2016 election when the game came out.

• Apollo complains about Blackquill's samurai sword despite us never seeing one. I mean, I'm sure he does have one, but the game never established that!
• Ah, the traditional ancient Southeast Asian American lake cave ruins right outside of LA. I stumbled onto these things all the time as a kid.
• Aha, a twist I didn't expect. Fighting Phoenix in court as Apollo is an interesting idea, even if these guys are criminal lawyers who have never done civil law, and it provides plenty of mysteryyyyyyyy for what Phoenix is up to. I like how Apollo is intimidated by him as the legendary Phoenix Wright, but literally no prosecutor has ever given him any degree of respect for being the lawyer who does crazy stuff all the time. But yeah, this is a good twist, and Phoenix is presented as someone Apollo should be crapping himself at the thought of facing, which is fun.
• I like how no one is questioning where Athena is right now.

• Ah, the traditional American palanquin.
• "He's one of those people who only hears what they want to hear." "In other words, a model politician." I was going to make a joke about a certain politician, but then I realized it would apply to basically every politician ever, so alright.
• The American police catch Datz. Per extradition treaty with Khura'in, he is immediately shipped off overseas and executed, denying us a chance to progress the game. The case ends abruptly, and a short series of slides show us that Apollo grows old, marries Juniper from the last game, and is left unsatisfied for the rest of his days, always with the nagging feeling that he was meant for something greater.
• "They think I'm an illegal alien, and I can't prove otherwise 'cause I lost my passport!" Between this and Rayfa complaining about illegal immigrants, I feel like this game is trying to say something about illegal immigration, but has no idea what.
• The return of Pearl! Everyone's fourth-to-eighth favorite PW character!

Like the big difference about PW1 and AJ is that you could almost consider Phoenix's characterization complete after his first game, and you barely know anything about Apollo at the end of AJ. You don't know why he wants to be a lawyer, why he admires Phoenix so much, important events in his upbringing, or anything. You just know his mom is the same as Trucy's mom, and that's about it.

I guess this is true, but at the same time, I still felt like we knew everything we needed to know besides why his mother abandoned him. I'll talk more about this after the game, though.

Yeah, should've mentioned that, I was expecting Phoenix back in Khura'in. I just don't believe they'll have Apollo as the final character, so I expect a switch to Phoenix at some point.

Episode 6-5

• Dhurke shows up in LA. I'm going to level with you: I know that 'one arm out of the sleeve and parallel to your waist' is just a Japanese thing, but to me, it's an Auron thing. I never don't think of Auron when I see it.
• Dhurke tries to set Apollo up with Trucy, so we can add "incest" to the list of fetishes the games push. I see what you're doing, Capcom.
• Dhurke shows us a picture of Archie Buff. Chances of him already being dead and a trial happening about the murder: 100%.
• Trucy on Apollo being raised by Dhurke: "I don't think anyone would believe you." Yeah, I don't believe it when the game throws this into Apollo's backstory three games in. Remember his best friend Clay Terran who was never mentioned until he died? This is worse than that. Doesn't Apollo already have a complete backstory at this point? Why do we need daddy issues thrown into the mix?
• Ah, that Dhurke, always bringing sushi to visit his American son from South Asia. Although, I'll admit, I am in walking distance of like eight sources of sushi right now, so this is a realistic thing to have in LA.
• How does Ema even have Datz's fingerprints?

I'm pretty mixed on 6-4, on one hand I like its plot and themes, on the other hand I dislike how Athena feels less competent in it than in 5-3.

• "Have you ever heard these old sayings? 'What happens twice will happen thrice.' 'If you see 1, there are likely 30 in your home.'" Uh, no, Athena, I've never heard those sayings before.
• Game, we are waaaay past the point of having Athena explain what sake is, especially when the game later assumes that I knew you were supposed to steam these buns before eating and that evaporates sake on them.
• Nahyuta: "You amateur! Did you really think I hadn't examined the glasses already?" Not suuuuuure you're in a position to demand people assume you've examined everything after the last case, bro.
• Athena commands Blackquill to buy her alcoholic food, which is definitely legal for a 19 year-old in Los Angeles.
• I actually looked up the movie Split to see if this was ripping it off, but it's from 2017, so no.
• Ah closeup on Simon's face, this has never happened before, I'm scared.
• "Who but the accused knows how to cut dough into noodles?" Yeah, that's a rare skill.
• I knewwww the clown girl would be another case of evil face. For some reason, the part I like most is how the balloon sword actually makes a balloon sound when it hits her shoulder.
• The game goes out of its way to explain what sake is, but then drops udon noodles in there like I'm supposed to already know what they are.
• I was wondering why everyone involved in the case is hyper-Japanese, but then there's just a clown girl, but she still has a Japanese name. At least now I know she was also hyper-Japanese the whole time. What a load off my back.

Overall, this is obviously the 1-3/2-3 case that's narratively pointless, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I've said before that I prefer the court portions to the investigation portions, and hey, this was nothing but court, so okay. I'm also willing to just give the case a complete wash when it comes to the "pretending Japan is America" stuff, because the only way this could have been more Japanese is to include those ghost-warding strips of paper or whatever they're called. The twist of two people independently framing other people is a neat idea, but the highlight of the case is basically just Simon. This is a really good way to use him.

I was going to save this for my post-game write-up, but part of the problem with this series is that it just has too many characters? When it was focused on Phoenix, Maya, Pearl, and Edgeworth, it was fine, and it was able to craft a story that has, like, a direction? But now it has a billion recurring characters who have to be included and a new prosecutor each game and all of the various witnesses each case. Like this case clearly just exists to give Athena something to do, because otherwise she'd be Trucy from the last game (and 6-2 clearly just exists to give Trucy something to do).

And to compound matters, they're really answering the mystery of Nahyuta's backstory too slowly to keep him interesting, and without it, he's just kind of a boring jackass who insults you a lot? Like I completely understand now when people last game told me to savor Blackquill while I could. Nahyuta's only notable quality is telling the heroes to give up so they can ignore him and prove how heroic they are for persevering in the face of destiny or whatever, which is a little too anime even in this anime game. I'm sure all of his backstory is going to be answered in the next case, if just because it's the last non-DLC case, but he's already lost me. I mean, you can argue that Edgeworth was also just some jerk until 1-4, but at least he immediately felt like a personal rival, whereas Nahyuta is just a jackass. I was actually excited to see Blackquill when the case began, but it was because I assumed the twist was going to be that he's the prosecutor, but he wanted his friend to have a good defense, and you'd have to go up against him, and Nahyuta would not be involved at all. Alas, that was not to be.

• I enjoy how Athena is treated like shes too young to be a lawyer in the series that had a thirteen year-old prosecutor.
• Oh! Is Blackquill our teenage girl sidekick for this case? Because I didnt see that coming and am totally on board with that.
• I know Nahyuta has a whole theme about letting go and moving on, and the heroes are heroes because they refuse, but seriously, does he actually expect that to work or is he just posturing, because I can never tell?
• Special English-version karuta cards, shut up.
• Gird up your loins. Im not girding up anything in this skirt!
• A reverse panda is actually a neat idea as a punishment for the ultimate weeaboo.
• Why do I always get the weird ones? Athena, your only case before this was 5-3, where the witnesses were an evil Greek philosopher, a girly girl pretending to be a boy, and a twenty-five year-old man who hangs out with high schoolers, youve had the most normal witnesses as a whole compared to the others.
• I realize that Athena wants to prove herself, but refusing to ask simon for his help when he knows the contradiction just makes her look more concerned about herself than her client.
• Nahyuta failing to notice this card thing just makes him look like a dumbass.
• Rearranging these cards is the most brain dead thing ever, why even bother making me do it?
• Change the cards around as much as you like, but if you cant explain what it means, then its as worthless as you are, defense! But... that blows your entire case wide open. Youve got nothing now. I know this clue is going to be misinterpreted into something to be used against my client, but come on.
• This is a grevious misuse of how the right to not testify works.
• Athena, you are in no position to criticize other people for mishearing things after the Hugh OConner debacle.
• Ive never seen anything like this, ever! - Athena, the person who saw exactly this emotional craziness in 5-5, and who was able to describe exactly what this is to Blackquill before seeing it.
• This guy is not nearly wacky enough to have multiple personalities, you needed to have him behaving completely differently with each statement, hes been mostly consistent.
• Am I going to never be allowed to say that no one can arrange cards to spell out a message while drowning?
• You look like a hen with a dozen eggs to lay. Second reference to her loins in one trial, Simon, I see where this is going.
• I just noticed that power outlet in the photograph. That is the most un-American power outlet Ive ever seen in my life.
• This is unrelated, but we could have done with another evil prosecutor who just makes up evidence, like von Karma. Nahyuta is so boring. At least Blackquill feels like hes competent.

Shintoism doesn't really have an afterlife, per se, no. Not in the sense we think of it anyway.

But yeah, 6-4 is the case that's probably the most "Japanese." I remember an interview with the producers asking if they take the American localizations into account when they make cases (namely, how difficult it is to convey the concepts of stuff like rakugo), and they said they don't.

That's fine, it's honestly better for humor purposes that the games make a pretense of being in America since it just makes things sillier.

I don't remember many details from 6-3 but I'm pretty sure it was my favorite non-finale case besides maybe 3-4.

It was just very solid overall.

Episode 6-4

• Ah, and we're back to Athena. Blackquill is back, too, and he's like "I'd rather have Phoenix or Apollo than you lol," and really... yeah, I accept that.
• I guess it's fair to call Athena green in her second game, since she was only the lawyer in one case in AA5, whereas Phoenix was the lawyer in all cases in AA1.

One thing I feel is sort of missed is that Phoenix apparently never got together with Maya or Iris (I assume this will not change by the end of the game). I get that they wanted to focus on Apollo and Athena, but then Phoenix just becomes the main character again anyway, and that felt like the natural progression of his character. I also know that anime stuff does tend to dance around that issue anyway, but still.

Yeah, there are so many fun details in this case. And I feel like 6-1 and 6-3 really solved the problem that DD had, where it felt like Phoenix honestly didn't have much of a role to play beyond mentoring Athena and Apollo or any opportunity for meaningful character development. It was such a smart move on their part.

Not sure what they'll do in AA7 to top that though!

It's strange how there hasn't been any new AA stuff since 2016.

Other than that it's great. It has the stakes of an epic case, it really puts Phoenix in the thick of the whole Khura'in mess and has him do his Phoenix thing to create a turnabout in even the most dire circumstances, when everyone's against him, and even though Maya's in trouble again I still think it's a great way to reintroduce her.

Yes, this is the main strength of the trial.

Also, I absolutely love that the knockoff Steel Samurai thing actually comes into play in the murder. That's just classic AA stuff right there, introducing a small detail that you don't think is going to come back, then it breaks the case wide open

Oh no, I knew in one second that it would be the key to the case, but yeah. One thing I really appreciate is how the theme songs played from the watch and phone strap actually do sound digitized.

• It annoys me that I'm not allowed to point out the obvious fact that Bel'eeb must have known about the hideout as well.
• I just realized, how do you train to spirit channel when you have to keep it secret and only one other person in the country can do it, and she's not helping you?
• I actually had this question waaaay back in the original trilogy: I know that Maya summoning a spirit changes her body while leaving some elements the same, but it was never super clear what happens if she summons a male spirit. At least we know, I guess.
• I like the detail of Inmee's concern being how awesome having hair is again.
• He'd better put that kimono back on before exiting Maya's body.
• I approve of the "ghost flying out of the body" surprised pose even if it contradicts every other time Maya or Pearl have channeled things.
• I have to go through this whole rigmarole with the Book of Secrets to prove it's not enough to channel Kee'ra, but you could have just said "Maya only had the book recently, but Kee'ra's been killing people for two years lol."
• Phoenix gets into an argument about whether or not Mrs. Inmee killed Zeh'lot, so he immediately asks the court to have Maya summon him and easily resolve the issue... or not. And yeah, yeah, Maya said it's not a certainty, whatever. We all know this "30% of the time" thing didn't exist in the originals.
• Low-quality breakdown pose from Tah'rust Inmee, 1/10.
• Oh good, he did put the kimono back on.
• We get a little cameo by Dhurke, a man who does not look like he's in his forties, which he must be.

Overall, this is a solid case. It's got some leaps in logic by the prosecutor and moments when the player will instantly know what's going on but can't say it, of course, but them's the breaks, I guess. One thing that's weird is that this is Maya's first appearance in twelve years, right? Because she is barely in the case. I know there's no way around that if she's going to be the defendant again, but really, it's bizarre. We get as much Ahlbi as we do Maya. I enjoyed Tahrust as the "killer," I'll admit I didn't see it coming at all, but that's really the highlight of the case. I enjoyed 6-3, but it's not quite up there for me. I can tell I'll put this around high-mid when I make my list.

Also, the case made a big deal out of how the queen was killed years ago, so I'm predicting now that she's not dead.

• For some time, I have maintained that the laziest name in AA is "Deid Mann." But "Rheel Neh'mu" may have just destroyed my argument.
• "I have issues with it. I just don't know what they are yet. But that's never stopped me before!"
• "I will deliver a joyous sermon onto you for eight hours straight." As someone who could barely tolerate half-hour religious sermons as a kid, I feel Ema's pain.
• I mean... can't you just tell Ema to test the Warbaa'd Statue for whose blood is on it instead of just saying "eh, it's probably his?"
• Maya finally reveals she can channel spirits, stunning everyone and setting us up for what I presume is the last part of the trial.

• Guessing Zeh'lot killed Inmee because he learned he was a rebel, then the wife killed Zeh'lot because she has a model and there's no other reason for her to have one.
• "I shall curse your entire family and all your disciples for the next eight generations." "Hey! Leave Athena and Apollo alone, buddy!" Sheesh, Phoenix does not care about Trucy at all.
• Rayfa's complaining about illegal immigrants now. There's a joke to be made here, I just know it.
• "What do people associate with Nepal? ... Uh, kukris, we need a guy with a kukri, stat!"
• Phoenix finds a picture of Apollo and Nahyuta with Dhurke as kids, and it takes until someone else says it's Apollo for him to realize it. And don't you dare claim that it's possible to mistake another kid for Apollo or something, we know from Edgeworth that no one changes their haircut once they've five years old.

• "I may be a defendant this time, but I'll be by your side like always, Nick!" I've literally lost track of how many times you've been a defendant before, Maya. And that's excluding weird things like the time you were possessed by the evil twin of an actual defendant who then impersonated her sister.
• I just realized, it actually does make more sense to only have one judge in this country. After all, it's presumably a tiny mountain country, and trials don't last long. AA5 establishes that judges are as common as lawyers and prosecutors, yet if you discount the Edgeworth games, we've only ever seen two.
• "Maya Fey's soul shall be plundged into the lowest level of hell - the Hell of Tickling. There, she shall be tickled without end for 500 million years." This sounds like a literal fetish comic drawn by some weirdo on Devianart.
• You ever wonder what VAs think while they read their lines? Like, what's the VA for Rayfa thinking while she reads about the pool of souls without being given any context for what that is?

• Phoenix is upset that an amnesiac gets to testify. I guess this is technically the first time in the series, since Yanni Yogi was just faking it.

1-1 is easily Phoenix's easiest case! He solves the whole thing in 30 minutes!

People might know of Misty Fey, but that doesn't mean they know who Maya is (see 3-5). She might not be telling people her last name is Fey either.

Maya and Ema haven't met in a game, but I mean, there was a 7-year gap where we've seen nothing. It's possible they met at some point.

But Phoenix/Rayfa is a surprisingly good investigation team. That's one of the highlights of the case for me.

1-1 might be it, though the fact that it was his first case might be a strike against it.

Maya was involved in a gigantic trial in 3-5 where her spirit channeling powers were the entire basis for everything, where a famous author/spirit channeler died and a lawyer bled to death!

I forgot to mention that I enjoyed Ema complaining that she missed the previous game.

• Back to Khura'in. "This place is really starting to grow on me." I guess this might be racist against Khura'inese, but so far, I have seen zero redeeming qualities to this country except cool architecture.
• This is a more restrained reintroduction to Maya than I expected. A ten second anime cutscene isn't quite as exciting as I thought we'd get! New Maya looks good head-on and when doing her "little kid puffing out their cheeks" pose, but her "smiling while facing slightly off-screen but looking at you" and "poking her head while looking off" poses aren't as solid. As far as "translated into 3D" goes, I'm giving it to Klavier > Ema > Apollo > Judge > Phoenix > Maya > Edgeworth.
• "Okay, so it wasn't my finest hour. So sue me." What... what was Phoenix's easiest case ever?
• I know this is hypocritical after I approved of Tehm'pul Temple, but I cannot approve of Acolyte Zeh'lot, I'm sorry. However, Tahrust Inmee does win my approval.
• "See how he prays in the cold without moving a muscle?" *Zooms in on a still frame where no one is moving*
• I can tell immediately that Inmee is going to die and Maya is going to be arrested. 90% chance Zeh'lot is the killer.
• Ema's here? Guess she took a plane. She's on a first name basis with Maya? ... Have they even met before?
• "Nahyuta's a formidable opponent." I'm not really confident that's true, Ema. I'm not even 100% sure he's better than Gaspin Payne.
• "Warbaa'd Dagger" Shut up.
• How dare this detention center not have a camera in the upper-left corner for me to click on.
• I will admit that I did not expect Rayfa to be the next teenage girl sidekick, but in retrospect, I really should have seen that coming. Has there been a single teenage girl who didn't become the sidekick for at least a bit? I'm counting Franziska because she helps briefly in 3-5.
• Lanterns that always kept alight, eh? Here's a Jew story for you: in synagogues, there's supposed to be a flame that's always kept alight. However, in modern times, they're always just lightbulbs shaped like flames. When I was like six, I asked what they do when the lightbulb burns out, since there has to be at least a few seconds when they switch it out, and was told to be quiet. I asked a lot of questions like that as a kid and annoyed the adults. I don't feel bad, though, because I had to sit through hours of mindbogglingly boring services... although in truth, I skipped out of most of them and just wandered the synagogue grounds.
• We have confirmation now that Phoenix doesn't speak Khurai'nese, which means everyone else is speaking English. See, here's the thing. It's actually plausible that a tour guide, judge, and high-ranking members of royalty would all have learned English, and so would be able to communicate with Phoenix. But to suggest that they speak Japanese is insane, so this is like the only case of the "Phoenix is from LA" situation actually making more sense than the original.
• I actually really like Rayfa's embarrassed face.
• I only just now realized that Khurainism is named after the country, or the other way around. Can you imagine if Shinto was just named Japanesism?
• "Historical figures don't come back to life." - Maya "Screw Jesus" Fey, 2016.
• Escaped prisoner, big dangerous guy, guessing he's that guard who had an actual model in 6-1.

• Actually, that hmmMMMmm reminds me, anyone else watched Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance? It kills me that it probably won't get a season 2, I loved it.
• Ah, the traditional ascetic mountain monk home, complete with a TV from 1995 and a portrait of that cigar-munching evil minister from the first case. Does anyone who smokes cigars not turn evil in fiction? And don't say Big Boss, we all know what happens with him.
• Beh'leeb. Name: Anagram-approved. What I don't approve of is that everyone was like "lol she's too pregnant to be in the ritual," but she doesn't look pregnant at all.

• I really like the idea of a Khura'inese ripoff of the Steel Samurai, that's a cute little bit of worldbuilding.
• The later games rely a little heavily on "character jumping back as wind blows at them" for surprise animations. Long gone are the days of a puppet's head and limbs exploding.
• I like the contrast of the ascetic life of the people with the ridiculous opulence of this throne room.
• "Being that I'm the queen's husband, that makes me king!" I actually read a whole article recently on why Britain has Prince Consorts instead of King Consorts, what a weird coincidence.
• Wait, Maya wants to keep her spirit channeling powers a secret? But wasn't her mother's failure national news, and people publicly went to Kurain to oh forget it.
• "While it is true you did not forge any evidence..." "I wasn't planning to do anything like that in the first place, Your Benevolence." I like that careful wording Phoenix uses, he doesn't say that he "would never" do something like that.
