I know that feeling.

I started homebrewing about 5 years ago and it wasn't until a few years into it that I made this absolutely badass batch of IPA that was my first huge beer brewing success. It wasn't an obnoxiously over-hopped American IPA that's just hops on dish water and instead more like a slightly over-hopped Scotch ale.

The maltiness was incredible - I'm seriously about to nut just thinking about it - but the hoppiness was subtle enough to balance it out yet pronounced enough stand out on its own without overpowering everything. It was honestly the most perfect beer I ever could've dreamed I'd brew. 9% ABV but not too boozy. Even before it conditioned, it tasted incredible.

I bottled 4.5 gallons and I had big plans for it. I wanted to age some as well as enter two bombers in a competition. I wanted to take some for a camping trip. I was going to give some to my friend as a wedding gift. I had it all bottled up and set aside. One night after about two months of conditioning, my brother had some friends over and they drank almost all of it. I only had two 12oz bottles and one bomber left.

Similarly, he offered to "replace it" and told me he would get me an amazon gift card and I could order stuff to make more batches. I did make it again but it wasn't the same, though I did make a phenomenal dubbel one time. I made lots of bomb ass ciders, too. Fucking hell I need to call my sponsor.

Oh yeah, good looking out on slowing down. Homebrewing is a lot of fun and I genuinely did enjoy the hobby aspect of it but it really elevated my alcohol use disorder by a few magnitudes.

Bro, that is much more devastating than what happened to me. Holy fuck, I would have flipped my shit if it was that good - that sounds like a good beer. Seriously, why don't people just ask? Christ.

I'm looking through different spiced rums now. I remembered an excellent drop of cheap rum from years ago, Buckeye Golden Spiced Rum, but it looks like the company discontinued it. It was their best rum, and they kept the swill and discontinued the good one. Disappointing.

It's a good revenge fantasy, but I wouldn't ruin perfectly good beer like that. Also, it takes at least three weeks to get drinkable beer - like I said, I would rather have the six beers he stole than have to spend three weeks making a new batch of 28. It's inconvenient, and it ruins my plans to share it with people I actually care about.

Like, my sister's wedding is 6-8 days away. It's too late to start another batch.

For fuck's sake, I'm so angry. The prick didn't ask, he didn't apologize - he just said "I was gonna buy you one of the cans to make another batch". Didn't even fucking bother asking for forgiveness. And hey, if I make another batch, he can just drink those too! Fucking asshole.

That was my first batch of beer, it was easy to make but I put a lot of passion and excitement into the process. I made it during a heatwave, so the brewing process lasted for like four days, which was the best case scenario as far as brewing time went - after that, I let the bottled batch sit for three weeks and a bit instead of the minimum requirement of two. I drank my first bottle on Australia Day, which was a full 31-day month after I had bought the brewing kit.

I got positive feedback from my friends - even the ones who aren't too hot on beer tried it, and they genuinely seemed to enjoy it. They didn't bullshit me for the sake of being polite, they're too blunt for that and even without necessarily feeling happy for me, they seemed to respond positively to the quality of the beer. I was proud of it - it tasted good, I had a blast making it (as some of you might have seen with my brewing update thread on CE) and I got positive feedback for it.

And some greedy asshole went and drank my hard work behind my back without asking me, expecting to buy me a new can of extract like that would smooth everything over. These weren't for sale - I wanted to share them with the people around me, I wanted to share them with family. Now I have significantly less beer to do that with.

Beer takes the better half of a month to brew from extract. Even if I was okay with getting a new can of extract, that shit is going to take me a fucking month to brew. I have to do the hard work to make up a new batch of beer, it doesn't matter if he covers the cost - that isn't a fair compromise. I would rather have the 6 beers he drank instead of having to work for the next month making another batch with his $20 funding and sincerest apologies.

Here's the thing. I could have sworn I had more than 10 bottles of beer left - I realised I had 11 or 12 out of my batch of 28, and I needed to slow down. Someone said I should share one with my pop, which was a good point, and I was gonna take a few up to have with my dad at my sister's wedding. I'm rounding down to 10 because four of the bottles were unaccounted for when I noticed the discrepancy - which would indicate that I had 8 left, even though I am fucking positive I had a double-digit amount of beers when I started saving them for later. Chances are this person potentially drank 8 of my beers behind my back, but I don't want to deal with the bullshit.

Just... fuck everything. I had a good January because I was making this beer, the process kept me alert and involved in something worth caring about during a period of time where I didn't have a whole lot going on. It was only beer made from extract, but I felt like I was creating something good, and I was worried that it might turn out bad and have been a wasted effort. The fact that it turned out good made me really happy, and being able to share it with people who also seemed to like it made it even better.

I had 2 more people I wanted to share this with - my dad, and my pop. I wanted a buffer of three beers for both of them, which left me with a few sundowners to enjoy the last of my first homebrew batch of beer and reflect on what I had accomplished. I can still share my beer with both of them, but it's down to the wire and I won't get a chance to enjoy my last brew by myself. I'm fucking livid.

This was my beer. It was my experience to share, and this greedy piece of shit took that from me. I want to give him shit for it, but then he'll just get drunk and threaten to hurt himself, so then it's my fault for making him feel that way. This fucking sucks. I hope he trips on a step and breaks his fucking nose on the concrete. Fuck him. Could have asked, and I would have let him have two of them - but he didn't ask and he took six. What a piece of shit.

"I want my baby/pets to only eat a raw, healthy, vegan diet! It's what mother nature intended! The real abuse is forcing meat and dairy onto these innocent beings, and as a vegan I refuse to buy into the cruelty economy!"

*Surprised Pikachu face when their baby/pet starves to death*

That's a scenario I've seen a couple of times now. For some reason, neglecting something until it dies of malnutrition is justified by a vegan lifestyle. Better it die ethically pure than live life as a puppet of the meat industry.

The worst part is that this baby could have been fed from the mother's own body. Fuck, could they have outsourced a wet nurse if push came to shove? Fed her all the vegan stuff they wanted to pass on to the kid, and paid her for it? It could have been another vegan mother, even - have her feed two of them like a communal thing. Anything that would have prevented this child's death from neglect.

They could have eaten that food, popped a boob out and fed the baby that way. Was it a personal boundaries issue where the mother felt like breastfeeding was encroaching on her bodily autonomy? Does the issue lie in the dairy part of the equation? Like... what the fuck, you know? How do you fuck up feeding a baby that badly?

The big discourse 2-3 years ago was vegans feeding their cars and dogs vegan diets and those animals slowly starving to death because they weren't getting the essential nutrients they needed. Cats and dogs are omnivores - they can eat both, but both animals rely on enzymes and stuff from meat to properly digest food. But vegans kept championing these diets and maintaining that 12 years for a cat was a long, healthy life. Now I hear about it happening to their fucking children? Jesus fucking Christ.

Maybe instead of refusing to feed your offspring a diet they can physically digest, or refusing to provide a necessary nutrient for a pet's continued wellbeing, you could get a fucking rabbit or some shit that can actually survive on a vegan diet.

First, not even gonna look at a 16 year old to determine if she's hot or not.

Secondly:

At the absolute best, it would only be marginally okay if the actor was a young 18 and the girl was on the cusp of 17. If you guys want to get weird and extend the acceptable older age to 19 as well, fine. But 59 is disgusting, and no matter how hard he tries to paint himself as a victim, he can go and fuck himself.

I have a hard time believing this administration dislikes sex trafficking

Yep. The act that closed places like Craigslist's personal ad section ended up hurting sex workers a lot - women who were selling services on those platforms saw their options dry up overnight, and it drove a lot of independent prostitutes back towards pimps or street work.

Women who were able to work in safer conditions, where they were able to vet clients themselves and keep 100% of the money, found themselves forced back into abusive situations where their work only earned them a cut, invited violence from a presiding figure and almost certainly saw them put into situations they wouldn't have picked for themselves. If not working under a pimp, these women saw themselves back on the streets, exposed to a similar level of danger.

https://apnews.com/5866eb2bcf54405694d568e2dd980a28/Side-effect-of-trafficking-law:-More-street-prostitution?

That article details the experiences of multiple sex workers who found themselves on the streets, some of them for the first time since they were teenagers. At least one rape is described in pretty blunt, horrific terms. Prostitutes saw acts of violence committed against them that they hadn't experienced for years, if ever.

By virtue of closing places like Backpage and strongly incentivising places like Craigslist to remove their personals, the law probably did result in human traffickers losing an avenue for which to conduct their business. By cutting out sites like that, especially the really obscure, sleazy ones, some of the scum of the earth were probably disincentivised to engage in unlawful sexual activity like selling their kids to perverts - at least for a little while, because the amount of online personal ads have rebounded since FOSTA came into power.

But laws like FOSTA, by virtue of the iron-clad, instantaneous crackdowns they invite, create a ripple effect that see people exposed to more danger. It might be in the short-term, and it might be in the long-term. But cracking down on shit hard and fast almost always hurts someone who's already having a hard time.

i.e. the War on Drugs - you see a lot of people going to jail for years over a dimebag of pot, and black people are disproportionately getting sentenced over white folks. Your big time meth-dealing bikers might be easy targets now, but some punk kid smoking a doobie is gonna be sent to jail for that shit. Of course some yuppie shitheads are gonna keep dropping ecstacy at raves and getting fucked up with no consequences, but when your common man rolls up a joint, they're gonna get hit hard.

FOSTA, whether inadvertently or deliberately - I lean more towards the former, though I have trouble imagining that the administration didn't have people warning them about the potential consequences - drove sex workers back into unsafe conditions. Human trafficking and child sex trafficking are much larger issues, and I couldn't make an informed comment on FOSTA's impact on either, but ultimately I don't think its brute force approach prevented these crimes to the fullest extent. If that article is anything to go by, it saw a lot more 14+ year old girls being seen on the streets, according to advocacy groups - so it's still happening, in arguably more dangerous conditions than ever before. It had a fallout that resulted in a return to a more dangerous form of sex work, for the patrons and for the workers. It probably did some good in the short-term and maybe even the long-term, but in some aspects, it resulted in prostitution becoming a lot harder to escape for a lot of people who don't have many, if any, other options.

And now, hundreds of thousands of dollars are going to organisations which either jam fundie bullshit up the ass of the people it's meant to be helping, or to a 1 and a half year old organisation operating out of a mansion. That doesn't sound suspicious at all, especially coming from Donald "Jeffrey Epstein is a good man who I consider a friend" Trump and his cabinet of sycophants and cronies. Shit wasn't perfect before, and change needed to happen to stem the flow of sex crimes stemming from the internet. But laws like FOSTA and government grants going to dogshit organisations like this Jesus bullshit or a refuge operating out of a mansion? Ultimately, it's just gonna fuck up sex workers and sexual abuse victims more than ever before.

You were almost certainly a cognizant, self-aware human being during the Friday backlash, and you probably saw the sheer amount of shit she got from everyone - TV, radio, celebrities lampooning her, youtubers ripping her to shreds with shitty parodies, internet randos dumping shit on her etc. That shit was massive - doesn't matter where you come from, that amount of hate for something as harmless as a shitty "make your own song" track is totally fucked up.

She had every fuckwit and his dog calling her the death of music, telling her to kill herself, like she represented the end of all culture. Similar backlash to Twilight, but on a much larger scale and infinitely more focused on the one person - something's shitty, so we better band together and defeat this cultural malady for the heinous impact it's having on the youth. Rich now or not, or even rich at the time and still rich now, she did not deserve the sheer amount of shit she got. If you're not hurting anyone by doing what you're doing, you don't deserve to go through shit like that. It's fucking horrendous.

I think most people who were severely bullied would agree with that, given that they were able to persevere and come out the other side with perspective and kindness rather than buckling to it and becoming a mouthy shithead who has to tear someone down to feel good about themselves.

Chapter 3:

Aang and Katara head back to camp. They state that they have an announcement. Toph tells Sokka and Zuko that it is very exiting for the two (because she fan feel their heartbeats). Aang rises a small stage of rock with his Earthbending, getting a compliment from Toph. "Ok, every one listening? Good." And at that moment, Aang and Katara say at the same time "We're going to try to start a family!"

Sokka fainted.

All that came out of Zuko's mouth was gibberish

Toph said "That was unexpected."

My initial approach to writing, to my memory, was "think of the things I want to happen and write them down verbatim so that they happen". I didn't care about readability, I wanted my thoughts out there for people to see. I figured if they dug my vision, they'd enjoy the story.

Now readability is one of the things I rip my hair out about the most - I need to convey everything in a balanced, enjoyable way to read, so little gags and goofs need to be cut if they break up the flow and shit - see: Aang getting a compliment from Toph. I think I'm always being chased by the legacy of this story, even when I haven't thought about it for years.

Zuko's hands started creating small ammounts of fire. They were opening and closing. He could not control them. Sokka wakes up and says "I had the weirdest dream. Aang and Katara were on a rock stage and said they were gonna start a..." And at that point Sokka looked up at Aang and Katara and fainted again. Toph laughed at Sokka. Katara was shocked at their actions. She did'nt know this is what would happen. It took awhile for Sokka to stop waking up and fainting again, to get Zuko to wake to his senses, and for Toph to stop laughing at Sokka. eventually Toph, Sokka and Zuko says "Okay, this is weird, but we all support you."

Aang was chuckling but stopped when they said that. "Thanks you guys."

Again - tone issues, readability issues. I'm so desperate to get the idea out there that I don't make it clear why it's happening, like with Zuko's fire hands. I think he's meant to be angry like he just got cucked by Aang.

Everything is lumped into a single paragraph because in my mind, it's all connected as a single scene like in the show. I'm also buying into lame humor tropes, but again - come on, I was 12.

Later that night Sokka could'nt sleep. His sister and his best friend were going to raise a family, yet he is jealous because he has never had a girlfriend who has'nt died or been captured. He grabs Suki's warrior helmet and wanders into a clearing of trees. He climbs up one of them. He thinks about where Suki could be. She had escaped when they destroyed Ozai. she left her helmet and a note on her cell wall, saying she loves him and hopes that their paths cross in the future. He lets out a sigh and mumbles "GoodNight Suki... where ever you are." and climbs down. He is walking back to camp where he hears a small noise and turns around. he sees... Suki! She tells him of her escape and how she slept in that circle of trees every night. they kiss and go back to camp, where they both sleep peacefully in Sokka's shelter untill morning.

End of Chapter 3. At least it was short.

I'm pretty sure this was written before The Boiling Rock, which is why Suki wasn't with the group yet. I imagined Sokka finding her cell with her helmet and a note, so I crammed it all in here.

I think I wrote in the Suki romance because as much as I was writing this to be a romantic fantasy story, I also wanted to show off some angst? It wasn't all happiness and rainbows, sometimes characters ~yearn~

I'm pretty sure Sokka's line in the forest came from that Simpsons episode where Grandpa is dating Marge's mother, and she gets swept off her feet by Mr. Burns. I may have also been imagining the Sly Cooper 1 credits music as I wrote it.

Holy fuck, things keep happening solely because I want them to, with no rhyme or reason. The Gang is camped in their very own commune within a stone's throw of Suki's base camp, who they haven't seen for at least 3 years. Then when Aang and Katara announce they're having kids, Sokka wanders off and finds her on a whim.

This isn't as painful as I thought it would be. I'm actually interested in how much I've changed. The thing is, I feel like these chapters are getting worse and worse as they go along. Chapter 1 works as a oneshot - a shitty oneshot written by a child, but it has a beginning and an end. Chapter 2 is a blatant retcon fest, and Chapter 3 dumps Suki into the mix because I wanted Suki to be there.

Just give her a quick line about how she told Sokka about her daring escape, and then they cuddle. I feel like I'm trying to keep things open-ended to leave people wanting more.

I'm a quarter of the way through now. I was chatting with a friend on Discord and I remembered a bunch of the whacked out directions this series went in. I feel like the final product had at least 26 chapters, and I took the story in some wild, shitty places. I'm honestly just excited to see where the story cuts off, where I got fed up with this original hosting website over lack of attention.

Well, yeah. They changed their name, they don't want to be identified as their birthname any more. My uncle changed his name decades ago because he hated being called "Joseph", and we call him by his current name. Calling him "Joseph" would be a pretty shitty thing to do - it's not his legal name any more, and he doesn't want to be called that.

Doesn't matter if someone's trans or cis. If they change their name, respect their new name. No matter which way you cut it, it's a shitty move to ignore that.

inb4 "what if they name themselves after a racial slur" or some dumb shit like this

The thing about anti-depressants is that if they're doing their job properly, you'll feel like stopping the anti-depressants. Obviously you have outside circumstances which you can't avoid, this isn't like a content person throwing their pills into the ocean to signify beating the condition. But as far as "I feel better now" goes with depression, there's a very solid chance that a lot of the balance you're experiencing is helped along significantly by the anti-depressants.

Whatever you do, I think it's important to have some support around you who know that you're off your meds until your next doctor's appointment. That way, if things get topsy-turvy with the brain chemicals, you'll have someone to help you through this tough patch.

Who are these conservative crybabies? They sound like nobodies.

Conservatives loved American Sniper and Hacksaw Ridge. Oh, and The Passion of the Christ, if were including non military movies.

Edit: Btw, the most snubbed Oscar nominee has to be The Irishman. It also had 10 noms, but won nothing. (This is in response to some people saying 1917 was most snubbed.)
This is a good point, Scorsese got snubbed hardcore. You'd think people would be going for the Oscars' head over that than snubbing another goddamn war movie.

I'm sick of war movies, and I like movies that focus more on character drama and dialogue as well as interesting themes. There's only so many times you can dramatise the same wars with the same themes of heroism, bravery and sacrifice, and I've had my fill. The wars are worth remembering for the loss of life they generated, and their effects on the world and lessons to humanity should not be forgotten - in Australia, our remembrance Day on the 11th of November is "Lest we Forget". But for the life of me, regardless of whatever new gimmick they're trying out, I've had it up to here with these fucking war movies.

Movies like Parasite are trying to break new ground and tell new stories about new things. I find that much more interesting and commendable than another director putting a brave, gritty view on WWI or WWII for the 15th time since Saving Private Ryan. I don't fucking care about war movies. The wars themselves are worth remembering and respecting, and there are movies like Saving Private Ryan that are worth remembering. but I do not give a flying fuck about another war movie.

Every time someone crams out a big war movie, do we have to shower it with the highest accolades? I don't think so. Parasite sounds interesting and somewhat unique, 1917 sounds like another fucking war movie with a gimmick.

TopicWith Parasite, the 'subs v. dubs' argument has gone primetime.
MrMallard

Live action dubs are all kinds of nasty. Anime and games, sure - not all anime dubs are good, but a decent production is perfectly acceptable. Especially for more action oriented anime series where you want to be looking at all the batshit crazy animation. But live action dubs are spotty at best.

Subtitles are great. They allow for more accurate translations - with a dub you have to match the mouth flaps, and that leads to truncated dialogue to fit the visuals. Subtitles let the translator expand on what's being said and more accurately depict the message and the mood of what's being said.

If you can't watch a movie with subtitles, then that's a you problem, not a problem with the product. If you want dubs, go back to anime and video games.
