Top 40 wise, I feel like the the 90s had way more diversity. Great Rock and Alt stuff, rap, r&b, dance, pop, electronic, and singer/song writer stuff.

I feel like the 2000s really started to homogenize in the latter 5 years. Rock music and alt stuff fell off the top 40, and the variety went down some.

That's my opinion at least. The strongest thing the 2000s has going for it is when some of the DIY direct to internet stuff started to take off due to social media and at home productions. Laugh all you want at Soulja Boy, but what he did was really unique for the time.

Clearly they do.

Wealth doesn't guarantee results, but it provides more margin of error. An average rich kid has a better more opportunties for success and room for failure than an extremely poor kid that happens to be brilliant.

Note, that's not saying that all disadvantaged children never make it in life and all rich kids do. It's more like one has a far either time than the latter. I don't see how this is a controversial take either.

seems sorta sensible, but I went to grad school for political science.

I don't know the underlying data or methods though. So, I can't speak to the accuracy or veracity.

It's basically a theoretic model showing the relationships between political ideologies or orientations. At least, that's what it looks like to me without context.

I've had something similar happen twice.

I went to buy a S7 Edge when it was brand new. I had the cash (in the form of my debit card.) Went to the ATT store, picked out what I wanted, and went to check out. They asked me how I wanted to finance it, I said, no financing please. I'm paying for it all right now. They said I had to finance it. I was sort of stunned. I asked guy waiting on me if he was seriously going to let me walk out the door when I had the money right now. He said it was against policy. I left, went to Bust Buy a day later, and just bought the phone on my debit card.

Last year, I was buying a S10+ the same way. I skipped the ATT store and went straight to the best buy. They told me the same thing, I had to finance it. But they offered me a reasonable solution: finance like 10 dollars and just pay to ATT when I got home. So, that's what I did.

I don't really understand it, I'm sure they must make more money somehow.

I was in 7th grade in 1997, fall. That's when we got the internet full time.

My dad had AOL in 1993 or 94, but it was a long distance phone call. We paid by the minute. So, we didn't keep it long. I never had the chance to do much with it. In 97, a local dial up exchange started, and we got the internet full time that fall.

I still distinctly remember getting home from a middle school football game in September. My dad didn't go. He surprised me and my mom when we got home with a new PC with internet. He was showing us a search engine called Excite and how you could chat on it. Around a week or two later, I got hooked up with a Tanarus account and started internet gaming.

The irony is our connection at the time was 33.3 k/bs. At my parents house, right now, their internet is 1.2m/b/s. Infrastructure in the Appalachian mountains does not improve fast ;_;

I am defintely the orginal owner of this account. I only started posting here because my old boards are dead or almost so.

My anectodotal observation is many of the forums I grew up with seem oddly racist now. They did not always. I get the feeling alot of the so called tech libertarians grew up and turned varying levels of racist because their secret video game club went mainstream -- see concepts liked forced diversity and let the market decide. I aslo get the feeling alot of marginalized teen nerd types got bitter when "sjw" movements started, because those movements focused on the truly socially and economically marginalized groups -- and not just awkward people in general. And instead of emapthizing with such movement, knowing what it is like to be othered by soceity some, they instead developed a grudge.

That is my take based on anectdotal evidence.

2017, May

1am friday into saturday. Returning from a friend's house. Pulled over going 32 in 25 zone. My fault, I knew it was peak pull over time, but I was on a divided town road that was completely straight. People drive 40 on it during the day. I though I was going slower.

Got a warning over a wrong address on my license. I had moved and forgot to update it. No ticket. They were hoping for a drunk driver.

I have been pulled over 3 times. All for speeding and all after midnight. In 2003 and 2014. Only the 2003 one cause a ticket.

Blink is classic rock but not "classic rock."

"Classic Rock" is a genre. Typically mid sixties to mid seventies. Think peak vinyl era, with the focus on album driven music, written by the acts -- unlike early era rock from the early 60s and 50s. Early rock is highly single and standards oreinted. Many acts used record company in house music writers, and established canons of songs.

Classic rock is just older rock music collectively, and what constitutes it largely based on the indivdual and their age.
