What have you observed, from what percentage of people in the group that you're talking about? I worked in retail for a long time. Many of the people I worked with are still there and admit they live paycheck to paycheck. They arent looking for new jobs. They arent expanding their skills. Everyone where I work at now makes decent money and most of them are broke because they are living beyond their means or they are making poor life choices. Just because you get a job with a bump in pay and benefits doesnt mean you have to go out and buy that new car and big house right away. But they do. And they do it ALL the time.
