Does this describe your friend's girlfriend?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder#Associated_features

I only bring this up because I grew up around a person who had this, and they used to do exactly what your friend's girlfriend is doing all the time. It could be something else---the world of mental health issues is vast. But whatever it is, your friend doesn't deserve it and should leave if his girlfriend won't seek treatment and try to improve her behavior. Nobody needs that kind of static, man.

i honestly believe there has never been a bad Alien movie. The third one was rough, but the extended cut smooths things out a bit. The fourth movie isn't much like the others, but it was perfectly watchable. Prometheus was quite good. Covenant was also a good movie, but I was kind of pissed because it wasn't great. We deserved more of a backstory about the Engineers, not only from a lore perspective, but also because David's motivations seemed like they were tied up with what he learned from studying their culture and history.

The time you have now won't come again. You only get to be young, free, and healthy once. Right now--or in a couple of years from now depending on where you live and exactly how old you are--is the time to figure out what you want in life. Adult life is sort of laid out like this: high school -> college or trade school -> career -> additional training if you need it. If you skip out on getting a degree in something you want and can use to start a career, it's much harder being a non-traditional student than you might think. If you need a college or trade school to follow the path you want for yourself, head straight for it. People who put it off tend to fall right off the wagon and don't get back on.

Get a part time job if you can to build experience. Keep working through college or trade school if you can, but prioritize your education and professional development. Don't compare yourself to other people. If your friend from chemistry can work three part time jobs and take a full load of credits, good for him. If you can't, that's fine. You do what you need to do to succeed and build a future for yourself. If you fail at something, that only means something needs to change. It absolutely doesn't mean you are a failure.

Don't ever let other people control or take advantage of you. You, LumaRosalina, deserve to be happy and free and live your own life. I hope you have a family that is good to you, but if you don't, make sure you graduate from high school with a complete enough set of life skills that you can stand on your own two feet without help. Don't let your parents decide your life path. Watch out for abusive people. There are things that can be wrong with people--like narcissistic personality disorder or psychopathy--that can create an incredible environment for abuse if they have wormed themselves into your life and target you. It's not their fault that they are like that, but it isn't your fault either, or your responsibility.

That last thing is a rare problem, but I've seen it happen three times in my life, and my life would have been so much happier if someone had bothered to warn me that dangerous people can come in some unusual packaging.

Well, if they didn't want to be convicted, they shouldn't have broken the law! Or talked to police. Or been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or have been chosen to help meet department arrest quotas. Or been chosen to help the career of an ambitious DA by having drugs planted on them by a crooked cop. Or looked at a crooked cop funny. Or become afraid that you'd be randomly shot and tried running away, because then you obviously do need to be shot.

Our "justice" system blows, from top to bottom. Laws are written by lobbyists, special interest groups, and people whose career is having power over other people (and my state is so gerrymandered that we don't even get the ones we voted for). Even considering just the criminal code, huge swaths of the law aren't written for the good of society or for any objective reason, but are instead written to satisfy special interest groups and keep elected officials elected (and wealthy). Browse an annotated version of your state's statutes if you can---you'll be shocked.

Crooked cops abound, and the good ones largely do nothing because of social pressure. The rule of law and the courts protect both bad cops and those who cover for them. Well over 90% of defendants never get a trial, and if you do get a trial, you are penalized for "wasting" justice department time (because we push too many people through the system to have speedy trials) and then get the book thrown at you in a trial you probably have no chance of winning, even with a lawyer (some districts have a 100% conviction rate). Once you're in prison--guilty or not--you can expect to lose a very large chunk of your life in squalid conditions because of mandatory minimum laws, laws that are basically pulled out of a politician's (in my state, technically unelected) asshole. And people will cheer your lack of freedom because you are criminal scum.

In the United States, you don't have to be anything like guilty to plead guilty to a crime. You just have to be arrested and find 5 years in jail preferable to the 20 years + 3 years of waiting you'll get if you want a trial to prove your innocence, a trial which your state appointed attorney is statistically guaranteed to lose. Even if you have no sympathy at all for criminals and believe a tough on crime, "lock 'em up" approach is what's best for society, what routinely happens to innocent men and women, and the lack of accountability for those who see to it that it happens, is absolutely unacceptable.

Gross. Isn't it amazing that God always wants exactly whatever the believer wants? I don't know if I've ever met a Christian who was actually interested in the nature of God or what he might want from them. Instead, they take whatever they already believe is right and claim God gave them their morals. If they read the Bible, it is conjunction with a pastor's sermons where everything is viewed in the light of trying to find lessons that match up with whatever they already think is true. I was raised that way myself, and to this day I find it disturbing.

If you take a life you don't deserve your life.
What about soldiers in the army, or police that end up killing people in the line of duty? Do they get a free pass because in society's judgement they are doing something necessary? The War on Terror has been going on for nearly 20 years now and is basically a Forever War. Personally, I'm not really sure how many more brown people need to be droned to death by American soldiers, especially when they miss or get the target wrong and kill women and children.

To say that across the board killing is different when police and soldiers do it and that a regular person should go away for life is WAY too simplistic. Even if the guy was an amoral piece of shit, the committed the crime he was being imprisoned for in 1976. Unless he is a deranged psychopath, the man was nothing like his young self at this point. Hell, I'm not the same man I was just 10 years ago.

TopicIf I want to learn digital art what software should I use
darkmaian23
04/12/20 2:08:52 AM

That depends on what you mean by digital art.

If you want to create logos, icons, posters, illustrations, or anything really that looks perfectly crisp and clean, use Adobe Illustrator.

If you want to create pixel art (like the stuff from Binding of Isaac, Shovel Knight, or classic NES and SNES games), buy Aseprite on Steam. It's only $15 and you'll own it forever.

If you want to do traditional drawing, grab a copy of Clip Studio.

If you want to paint, Artrage and Corel are both solid options.

If you want to create 3D art, download Blender (it's free software) and do the Blender Guru's famous doughnut tutorial. Blender isn't the industry standard for any particular part of the 3D content creation process, but it can do basically everything for the low price of free. There are fantastic tutorials out for the latest version, and there is no reason not to start with it to see if you even like doing 3D.

Adobe Photoshop can technically do pixel art, painting, drawing, and contribute to graphic design, but I'd recommend you learn software that is specifically for whatever kind of art you want to do. Photoshop is primarily intended for editing photos. It happens to have various brushes built in and has the word Adobe in the title, so a lot of people try and use it for sketching and painting. No doubt professional artists make nice pieces with it, but seriously, just pick the right tool for the job.

The split between Mike and Bootsy was surely due to some kind of financial dispute. He left the channel almost immediately after Bootsy Beats began. Having done everything for his Battletoads episode (game capture, editing, etc.) Bootsy probably wasn't happy with what they were going to pay him.
I've always thought the real problem between Mike and Bootsy was that Bootsy was better at games than Mike, and that the kinds of videos he wanted to do are basically Mike's thing. And maybe I'm biased because of how different Cinemassacre is now, but I always got the feeling Bootsy cared mostly about the art and not much about the business. James doesn't like most video games, and Mike seems to favor stuff that gets clicks over passion projects most of the time.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

James looks checked out in most videos and Mike doesn't seem to produce much original content (or any?) these days, but surely James wouldn't actually sell the channel.

Wolverine's healing factor is the best power (ignoring the versions where adamantium eventually sickens him or he ages). No other power even compares. What could possible compete with being kept in your prime at peak strength and speed, able to heal from any injury or illness rapidly? The only thing that might do it is if you get some kind of reality warping power where you can give yourself Wolverine's power plus some other bonuses.

Plenty of powers are cooler, but eventually age, illness, or injury will make it pointless. It's also one of the only powers that comes with no downsides. Yeah, you'll outlive everyone else, but in the life of a regular person, people come and go regardless of closeness. And with endless youth the jaded inflexibility of old age won't become a thing. By the time you feel you've done it all, there will be more to be done. And if society of the world collapses, you can live through it without worry and perhaps be in the best position to help the survivors.

I've always thought stories about bored immortals or ageless people who longed to die were written mainly to try and give meaning and justification to the horrors of old age and death.

In my opinion, both of these bills suck balls. The aid package should: prevent evictions during the crisis and keep utilities going; provide funding to critical businesses to ensure they don't go under; provide a blanket payment to every American to keep them going (by the time checks go out, the situation will likely have evolved further); and contain absolutely nothing else. This is going to go on for months and nobody knows how bad things will get. We need to focus on making sure society can continue to function until the virus has been marginalized. Everything else is a secondary concern.

This isn't an extinction-level event or a zombie plague, but it's the worst thing we've seen as a species in a century and it's everywhere. Modern society is fragile and vastly more interconnected than it was during the Spanish flu. At every level of government and in both parties, it seems like nobody quite grasps the seriousness of the situation. Especially puzzling given how old and vulnerable most of our officials are. It's like humanity is collectively too stupid to live.
