I just watched the whole video. I was surprised that "Concerns arose that having psychos would be deemed inappropriate for having characters beat up with characters with mental and physical disabilities", one of the rumors for the reason psychopaths were cut was true.

It's pretty impressive how Crowbcat's video actually influenced the remaining developer's work. I do feel bad for the remaining developers since they knew how trash their product was and had to salvage the mess from people who left.

The most infuriating part was how the initial concept of DR5 with Chuck and Katey in between 2 and 3 was actually not bad but then the new executive producers flipped the entire thing over and told them to emulate Uncharted, Batman, and GTA... which was the whole reason DR4 ended up so bad because the original plan to emulate TLOU was scrapped. It sucks that all the executive producers forgot that DR was supposed to be a DR game, not another AAA IP that already exists. The executives then flipped it once again in order to emulate Dark Souls/Bloodbourne.

lol yeah, I'd predicted that they'd just did the same mistake the previous team did. Capcom Japan rejected it for not being Dead Rising. Sounds like most of the problem came from the Vancouver executive heads being too obsessed with emulating other games and not making their one based off of the actual series.
I'm guessing the problem with RE6 was due to this as well.

I know its an unpopular opinion but I feel like the decline was beginning even with Dead Rising 2. DR1 was one of the most original games on the console and felt like it harkened back to an earlier sort of game development. 2 started injecting western things like a dumb crafting system that made weapons you just find almost useless, janky co op, and a weird self parody tone that felt like saints row or something even though it was only the second game. All while not really innovating much with what already existed

I dont hate it, but it doesnt surprise me that they were trying to push the westernization further and make it into the last of us or ass crud or some other junk

I think DR2 has the same kind of tone as DR1. DR1 was a serious story with goofy gameplay and DR2 was the same thing, with maybe a bit goofier gameplay, but the unique kind of goofy like taming a tiger (my favorite DR mission) , giving gifts to Katey, or having to escort a wounded man who refuses to be carried by using a wheelchair. The content was enjoyable.
DR3 was when the tone of the gameplay started to be the same as the story. The gameplay was a lot more serious with most of the combo weapons doing the same thing (while DR2s were all creative) and half the missions as the other two games, replacing interesting sidequests with dull collectibles. The story got a little less serious with psychopaths fitting a theme rather than being an interesting look at how different types of people will snap in the previous games. Because the tone was the same, DR3 became a bit blander. DR3 did still have some great weapons like the nuke and a handful of creative missions though.
DR4 is the worst because it actually plays the whole thing like a joke inside the story already without getting into all the content that was removed, making DR4 feel like a crappy mobile game.

The video points out an interesting issue with climbing. Climbing puts you away from the zombies. So what's the point of it?

I haven't seen the video yet but I think they'd probably have zombies climbing too? And maybe more projectile attacks.

Ex-Ubisoft lead came in and changed things up. Added the ability to climb buildings (lol). Far Cry outposts were an inspiration for gameplay. Coop campaign was scrapped for swapable characters. Day and night cycle would return as would psychopaths.

This is the exact concept I thought would be coolest for 5 wtf.

That ubisoft plan didn't sound too bad either. Day and Night cycles and psychopaths were the features that needed to return the most. Swappable characters sound cool too.
The rest after that were pretty bad. The final version before the shutdown was the worst. Why would they think to go back to DR4 after the reception for that?

It gives you a good high at the crazy twist ending but replay the game and you realize the story is rushed and ridiculous with the ending being a cop-out to not actually resolve anything and the gameplay is limited.
