Volgin - mid fodder

Could conceivably be low. Hes got the screen time and importance as the villain in the strongest metal gear, yeah, and hes in some cool scenes but hes a pretty straightforward evil villain without much nuance or likability.

I guess mid fodder for Baby Bowser. Hes considered less irritating than Baby Mario but hes also less present in general and Bowsers got a much lower base strength to begin with. I...guess hes still got Bowser in his name and unlike Baby Peach or whatever theyve actually done things with him every now and then.

The reason I wanted Meta Knight re-ranked wasnt that i thought he was too high but rather too low. Even Dedede looked fodder-line-ish in 2018 and their respective 2008 results and my understanding of their relative popularity mean Meta-Knight should be easily stronger.

The problem with Meta Knight is that he kept getting stuck in SFF matches. Even there though he beat Wario and Peach in 2007 and did way better against Fox than Captain Falcon, to say nothing of Banjo. There were probably special reasons he held up better than those four did but Im real reluctant to think hes actually weaker than most of them directly rather than maybe just on a similar level when he actually has those results. His 2008 performance is also a weird situation but 40+% on Ryu is a solid, midcarder-worthy result. He outright won a vote-in poll that included Marth, Peach, and an Akuma with nothing in particular that should have notably held Akuma back. His 2010 result on Luigi is arguably a midcarder performance even with no SFF. Didnt do great in Rivalry Rumble but he doesnt really have a great rivalry so yeah. 2013 looked poor but Bowser has reason to SFF him harder than Luigi and in a 3-way format people were probably less comfortable throwing their vote to the weaker Nintendo character.

Meta Knight has never gotten very reliable or trustworthy looking circumstances but I think hes generally looked pretty good with what hes been given and low midcarder is more likely than being below that.

Ocarina of Time brought a focus on the story, presentation, world, and characters to a level that wasnt really there for the early 2-D Zeldas (Link to the Past and links awakening were obviously a step up though) and creates extensive material for discussion and fan-works after you run out of gameplay stuff to talk about. I love Link to the Past dungeons as much as the next guy but there's only so much you can talk about Turtle Rock or the Tower of Hera before moving on.

Mario platformers never had much of a story worth caring about. Metroid Prime mostly sticks to datalogs with a few important points in Prime 2 and 3 where NPCs talk to you for awhile. And of course Metroids main attempt to center the game around its story in a big-ish budget way made an utter hash of things.

Mario 3 might not belong here. Undertale spillover effects aside, it still didnt look all that good against RBY even in the power hour and Id think RBY would have the better Europe vote. Plus it gets its face absolutely smashed by Mario World every single time weve had a 2D Mario poll in recent years - and Mario World is probably the next weakest game in this batch, unless Breath of the Wild disappoints.

This makes me wonder...

How did so many people rate that game on KCF's topic back in the day? I remember it being one of the most voted games, maybe around SMB1's level.

Did they just rate it based on AVGN's episode, or?

The game only takes about an hour to see everything in it and the only gameplay consists of making choices at specified parts. It can be "played" by watching youtube videos and loses basically nothing (There's technically a "score" that has no impact on anything but gets affected when you make one of the "wrong" choices).

Best just to not go there.

If you don't have the 2010/2015 results in mind it's easy to forget that Baldur's Gate II is actually not terrible here and that's probably enough to save Irenicus from LAW.

Chell didn't seem to tank GLaDOS in Rivalry Rumble (or at least didn't do so much) so I'll go with "not worthless until proven otherwise."

If Melia isnt there now, Definitive Edition is only a couple weeks away and it was already clear from the recent contest that Xenoblade is now stronger than we thought. Reyn and Duncan probably need to be re-ranked but Id wait to see just how Definitive Edition shakes out first.

Glados could probably reasonably get ~45% on The Boss based on 2018 results so if anything strange happens an upset wouldnt be too unreasonable. Slim pickings indeed after those two though. Super Metroids rise over time could mean good things for Mother Brain but Ridleys the Metroid villain people actually care about so its hard to see her improving enough from Villains to actually make midcarder, even with dont underestimate Nintendo factor, but that might have a slim possibility of doing it too.

or Allen could go fuck it, if im actually hosting female villains lets go crazy and allow Dark Samus and she wins.

Sure, for historical and nostalgic reasons and the graphics hold up pretty well too. I havent been impressed by most of the rest of the Master Systen library so far (currently playing through the biggest titles) and can understand why a longer quest like this would be fondly remembered, especially when it looked that good.

but its a first-person dungeon crawler with no mapping support and super basic combat with super frequent random encounters but no auto-battle. I replayed it earlier this week. Its bad.

I dont think Golden Axe is too warmly thought of. The mechanics arent that deep and the existence of the shoulder bash and enemies that constantly try to surround you seem to make it hard for many to adjust. I enjoy it though and it doesnt wear out its welcome.
