I do it with my class from time to time.

It's mostly for assignments that are low stakes that I don't feel like spending time grading. I don't usually collect these either. Sometimes they pass it to a neighbor, other times we do a "snowball fight" and crumple them up and throw them around for a minute and have everyone pick up a random student's paper.

It's actually a useful tool as it exposes students to different approaches to solving problems and allows them the opportunity to critique the reasoning of their peers. This is one of the 8 Standards of Mathematical Practice outlined by Common Core: http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Practice/MP3/

It's even better when students have the opportunity to read off answers or try to explain someone else's answer.

Although really, I didn't see much ambiguity.

Give it a second watch. Some plot points make you think "did X really happen?" are surrounded by details that can go either way.

One example: The woman he pretended to have a relationship with in his head. We don't see her after their scene in her apartment, and immediately afterwards we hear an ambulance close by.

I really don't want a sequel or a connection to any Cinematic Universe.

Spoilers ahead

To me this movie's greatest strength is its ambiguity and how it leaves many of its plot points up to interpretation/speculation. Was TW his dad? Some evidence says yes, some no. Did he kill that woman? Again we don't know. How much of it was in his head as opposed to real life? There's evidence for a lot of narratives and interpretations.

As a film and as a character study on the Joker, this is brilliant. A sequel would in all likelihood eliminate all of that ambiguity by forcing a specific narrative and sequence of events following the original. And that would ruin the movie for me.

It really challenges our preconceptions about the character. Was he originally a sympathetic guy who was dealt a really bad hand and finally went off the deep end? Or did he make that up for us to see and feel bad and root for him? I know I found myself thinking "Don't do it, you're better than this" multiple times in the film, so it had an affect on me.

Trying to over-analyze it and trying to fit it in some bigger picture would make me appreciate it less. Then again, if I tried to stop others from doing so I would be a hypocrite since that's how they interpreted the movie themselves.
