The biggest is that at the time Rome was almost completely built from wood so it really was only a matter or time until the place burnt to the ground. And lastly there is evidence it was the early Christian's who torched the city. At the time they were troublemakers and rabble rousers, so there is some evidence they set the fire. This would also explain the Roman tradition of feeding the Christians to the lions, it wasn't for sport so much as punishment. Looks like we got ourselves a Nero apologist folks. --- |

But I think the issue comes that this was raised in defense of people taking lengthy spiritual journeys to exotic locales to fin themselves, which is not really characteristic of people who are scraping together their paychecks to afford a cheap trip to Iceland where they sleep in a car and buy groceries to avoid expenses. As far as feasibility, the suggestions for how to make it more feasible are geared towards young people without children. There's also a bit of conflating between things that are "travel" and what people usually think of when they talk about traveling. When I was a kid, sometimes during the summer my family would drive somewhere <5 hours away and stay for the weekend, but in the area of the country where I lived that was hardly sexy enough to fit people who say they "love traveling". --- |

Granted, banks have contained the value of the bitcoin via futures contracts, but the functionality of the system still works as intended. And above all, Satoshi Nakamoto was humble in that when he first started the community he had everyone start at base 0, including him. No premined bitcoin. I'm very familiar with bitcoin, which is why I think that calling Satoshi a hero of our generation is silly. Most of the elements that make up bitcoin precede him (such as the actual cryptography, the idea of proof of work, etc.). It's definitely an impressive work, I'm not downplaying that. I just think we've seen much bigger things in our lifetime. And tbh there's not much of a difference between "mining when no one knows what mining is" and "premining". --- |
