No, what makes the entire series a load of mind-numbing dogshit is that the technology over the course of these movies, literally stays the same. One could suppose that once the Empire supplanted the Republic, technological advancement would have been systematically stifled so as to make it easier for the Empire to retain control. This wouldve been further exacerbated by the collapse of the Empire. One could also point to the fact that advanced tech is out there but the writers have a penchant for blowing up all the advanced worlds and the Rebels love hanging out on shitholes like Hoth because they draw less attention. They also love going back to Tatooine, the galaxys dried up anus, for nostalgic purposes.
