So it looks like the shiny boots shown are an equipable item rather than a sticker, so that's good. I don't mind a change to the battle system so long as there is some benefit to battling. The lack of unique characters seems eh still, but I can call this good middle ground if the dumb resource management is removed.

As a whole, obviously. There is no system without flaws, but this is the only system that could have gotten us to this point. That's not to say people shouldn't seek out to fix some of the massive flaws in the American system, but some people jump to really insane extremes in thinking. Anyone who thinks communism can work just fundamentally does not understand the human brain. Maybe there will be an entirely better system in the future once automation outpaces all of humanity, but that is hundreds of years off.

A. Your companion is rendered unconscious protecting you.
B. Your father set up some kind of thing there somehow so only your DNA/retina scan/finger print/etc can work the system.
C. Your companion is stuck holding off an incoming wave of soldiers behind a door that conveniently locked.
There's those and many more competent reasons to have not had that shitty ending. At least the DLC fixed it and was worth the cost regardless of the fixed ending.

you're the one who made the claim. defending it is your job

your words:

landlords gain profit by exploiting someone else's need for shelter, so it follows that landlords are inherently exploitative.

~50 words later:

for those following along at home: please note that I never referenced any individual landlords, instead restricting my critique to things that are inherent to the position. I do not care about moralizing it. I do not care if any individual landlords are "scummy" or "evil."
You're ignoring context. The point is that all trade is exploitative on a fundamental level, so the basic function of landlords is no more exploitative than anything else. What's exploitative is the seeking of maximum profit to the point where the product or service is degraded, such as scummy landlords who rent gouge, put no maintenance into the buildings, etc. Good luck living in bizarro communist world. I'm outta this discussion.

didn't we literally just establish that profit, or at least profit based on human needs, is inherently exploitative?
Trade is always motivated by profit. You seek to give up less than you get. The idea of an even trade is a farce, though you may have cases where both parties come away thinking they've profited.

I'm gonna need to see some data to believe that statistic lol

I'm not at all convinced that all trade is inherently exploitative.

besides, exchanges where one person owns a basic human need (e.g. shelter) and the other doesn't is inherently weighted in favour of the one who owns the basic human need.

first: landlords don't provide a service. all they do is own the building and make money from it

second: where are you getting "evil" from? I certainly didn't say anything to that effect.
Gaining profit is inherently exploiting someone else's need tor a good or service. To say it isn't the same is just deflection due to your heavyhanded bias against landlords. Proper landlords assume risk in letting their property be used in exchange for money and must put in money to keep the property at an acceptable level of habitation. That there are scummy landlords that do not do that does not mean landlords are inherently exploitative.

It's high risk people, and the vast majority of high risk people are elderly. Sub-1% of younger people dying doesn't mean anything to the average person. Social distancing is a good thing, but the vast majority of people would get it and be completely fine after. But doing that at the cost of millions of lives would not be a good thing.

the position of a landlord is inherently an exploitative one.
You keep saying that as if 99% of human interaction isn't exploitative. With the exception of charity, any trading of goods or services is inherently exploiting someone's need for something to the benefit of the person offering the good or service. You can point out the shitty mogul landlords as corrupt without thinking that the rest of the people offering a necessary service are somehow evil.

There are certainly issues with scummy landlords, as there are issues with scummy tenants. This is the same shit these people do with cops. There can be shitty people in positions of "power" over others that do shitty things, and we can work to make them less shitty. But to classify them all as some evil overlords just makes people look like insane conspiracy theorists, which then makes it harder to deal with the actual issues.

The choice of wording may be poor, but it is a legit criticism in today's media. There definitely is an issue with an overzealous representation quota that can negatively affect a production. That doesn't mean the opposite end of the spectrum that cries foul at the mere mention of a gay person is correct. There's obviously a balance to it due to a clear lack of representation over the last few decades due to bias from such people.
