Uneducated guesses:
Idaho: Biden
Michigan: Close race between Biden and Bernie
Mississippi: more Biden than Alabama
Missouri: close race
Washington: whole state gone Bern
North Dakota: the Alabama of the North

Bernie won Idaho in 2016, as well as North Dakota, Michigan & Washington. Biden will most certainly carry the states Clinton won in Mizzou, Mississippi. But Michigan will be a battleground, and is realistically the last high-delegate count state Bernie can win as the others (Illinois, Ohio, Florida, Arizona, New York) will probably go Joe.

Minnesota & Oklahoma have been declared for Biden. Joe has now turned over two states that Sanders won in 2016, and has a very slim lead in Maine, which was another Bernie state in 2016.

If I wanted to right now, I can go read the works of Dostoevsky from a virtual library, go on a VR Guided Tour of wildlife in Uganda, watch a live rendition of Macbeth, or take in Tchaikovsky violin concerto in D Major...all from the comforts of my connected devices.

There's plenty of ways online to enrich oneself. Instead, we've chosen to use it for virtually shooting each other or beating off majority of the time.

what was the metaphor in cabin in the woods

I thought it was pretty clearly a send up of our (the audience) tastes in horror films and how over decades of horror in cinema, we are desensitized to so much that nothing entertains us anymore. So something has to appease us or else we will go bitch about it on the Internet, or, in the context of the film the old gods will rise and destroy everything.

There's no path for Warren in trying to take out Sanders. He's been building grassroots momentum for years and the reasons for his base's trust in him span decades. it's not happening, especially after her recent missteps. But if she drops out and endorses him, she can perhaps restore enough goodwill to vy for a cabinet position under his administration.

Which I had initially assumed was her play in all this, was pining hard to get in on Bernie's ticket.

This is a perfect example of the difference between Megyn Kelly & Wendy Williams.

Megyn wasn't fired because of blackface. She was fired because the network overpaid for her & wanted out of her contract.

Wendy Williams is not paid anywhere near the amount of Kelly, so they can live with this sort of controversy and will gladly take the pub that is coming with it. If WW had a ridiculous contract, she would've been gone the moment she finished her Joaquin comments.

One of his rants about zoning was crazy, where the amount of hoops and red tape you have to go through just to build an addition to your home or property is wild. And if you don't dump waste properly, you get a huge fine. But there are tons of unlicensed contractors and repairmen just dumping toilets, rotted drywall, rusted piping on the side of the roads because why bother going to the dump to pay the proper tonnage/hauling fees.

The only point is that you have no clue about what makes a neighborhood. You probably walk into a great bar or restaurant and say "what's the point?" or "someone could make a lot of money here."

Sealioning isn't the way to find out either.

I know exactly what a neighborhood entails because like you, I grew up in one. And yes, as a youth, it was cool going into a local fish joint and the owner saying hi to me and my parents when we bought food. It feels good to us because we like that sense of community. I don't dispute that at all.

But that fish joint only hired family or very close friends, routinely had cockroaches in plain view, and was closed down by local health inspections at least 3 times in my time living there. Eventually the location was demo'd and a Popeye's franchise opened up.

We go in, order, and leave. There was no conversation with the owner, no communal sense of belonging. Just in, order, and move on. But it had no health code violations, hired way more people than the previous business could, & is still there to this day. I don't consider that a bad thing whatsoever, and some could argue that it was an improvement over the mom & pop joint that couldn't even keep cockroaches at bay.

This is a singular example based on personal experience. Not a generalized statement.

100 mom and pop businesses mean:

* 100 business owners (so, middle class to wealthy people)
* Many small-time lawyers who help those biz
* Many small-time CPAs who help those biz
* Many middle management people that run the small biz

What happens when you kill 100 mom and pop business so a starbucks/jamba juice/chipotle takes over, no matter the number of locations?

* 1 biz owner
* legal stuff is done by the firm that does it all for that megacorp biz
* accounting stuff is done by the same mega firm too
* the rest are minimum wage employees who work AND also get wellfare
yeah I'd say mom & pop stores matter, but that's just me.

I wouldn't reduce it to just "1 biz owner." It's also shareholders. You and me, right now, can go and purchase shares of Jamba Juice, Starbucks, etc. And our purchase of those shares is contingent on the success of those businesses, i.e. expansion into areas that they previously weren't in. And a corporation doesn't necessarily kill the opportunity of middle managers, accounting & legal firms. Many large businesses contract out that work, so the opportunity is still present no matter what type of business. And yes, there are minimum wage workers, but there are certainly more opportunities for work than what a limited mom and pop can provide.

Also, why does a mom and pop have to stay the quaint little joint that we all know and love and they know our names? In Chicago where I live, there's a restaurant that started out in a single location called Harold's Chicken. Harold's eventually grew into multiple locations across the South side, and then into a franchise that independent business owners could purchase. Now there are Harold's as far West as L.A. & Vegas, and as East as ATL. Growth from the traditional "mom and pop" was key for the original owner & chef's enterprise.

I just don't think we should keep poo pooing growth & capitalistic expansion like many liken it to cancerous growth. But that's also just me.

WHOOOSH! if you think gentrification is merely 'turnover of businesses'. And if it were just a rural thing, people wouldn't be so uspet about gentrification in places like L.A. and NYC.

You must've missed what I was referring to.

I was talking about mom and pop businesses, not gentrification. Why is a mom & pop business that makes greasy Mexican food OK, but Chipotle or Qdoba is soulless, corporate-churned feed? Why does one get ire and the other doesn't?
