It was a terrifying area, to be sure. Catacombs and Tomb of the Giants were a slog to get through too, soooo many goddamn skeletons, giant skeletons, and weird skeleton dog beast things.

Though these crystal soldiers and such aren't exactly easy, because holy fuck do they hit hard. Makes sense, since they're wielding crystal weapons, but damn. Will play more when I get home and try and get out of jail.

Also, trying to figure out how many lord souls there are. Nito, Seath, and the Witch of Izalith I assume. That Pygmy thing also, that was talked about in the opening video? I don't think the witch's daughters are, as I already killed Quelaag and she didn't have a lord soul.

There are a total of four, after you placed the lord vessel it showed four orange fog gates dissipating.

As far as the dlc goes - you could do it right now, but i personally suggest that for your first time you wait until after you've collected the lord souls. Otherwise you'll probably be way overleveled for whichever one you do last.

El Dorado's biggest problem, imo, is that trashing is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too strong. Spend a few turns in the first board piece abusing the trash space then you just blow by everyone and win in 5 turns. The game literally comes down to just "who had the lucky positioning/draw to lock down the first trash space". Such high potential for a game idea that it's a big disappointment.

I agree that trashing is really strong and can take some of the competitiveness away. My group does a house rule for trashing where you can only do it once per space.

Dominion is a classic for a reason. Restrictions and limitations make the game, attempts from others in the genre to soften those edges all ultimately make the games weaker.

El Dorado's market randomness is fine because of the ultimate goal of the game, but I'd still almost always rather just play Dominion.

I think ds3 is easily the weakest of them all and is the one I've enjoyed replays of the least.

However, 2 suffers from a really strange situation where the base game in my opinion, is generally better than the ps4 "remaster", except for where the dlc is involved. Scholar of the first sin is fine enough, but I think the enemy placements and variety are actually better in the original.

Edit: and ds2 probably has the best fashion souls and potential build variety, so if you like those aspects (which I do) then it can be a very fun experience.

Even on hard mode, the game is beatable after making plenty of "mistakes". You're not supposed to be able to 100% the game on a first playthrough.

Edit for clarity: you're going to miss cool things, particularly s-links. It'll be very unlikely that you see every character interaction and rank each one up to max.

There's a lot of stuff in there. I've had the game for over half a year and I still have the goron area left. I get back to it for a few hours every few weeks.

The memories add a lot, I'd suggest going to the stables and talking to the old dude there for hints.
