I honestly can't believe they fucked up this badly. I know movie adaptations go wildly off the mark all the time, but this is a new low. You couldn't make something this stupid even as a parody.

I actually really liked the original book because it felt so subversive. Having a cold and calculating evil genius as the protagonist was interesting, and made for a compelling plot where I could never truly be sure what would happen next. Changing it into a generic "young child stumbles into a magic world" plot is one of the most disappointing and baffling things I could ever imagine.

That's only in the 3-2-1 mode, so you don't have to worry about it.

Havent really had any good matches in it. They left dps and support alone which is a huge problem because 1 less tank means 1 less protector and 1 more damage dealer means everything is dying all over the place. None of the tanks feel buffed enough to survive most 3 dps groups. Hell Orisa & Sigma literally didnt even get fully reverted to their pre-nerfed states and Hammond wasnt touched at all. All the barriers feel like garbage against 3 dps and an enemy Mei or Sombra alone can completely bully your tank to unplayable levels.

It really depends of the character. Wrecking Ball, Orisa and Sigma don't seem to really fit in the mode well since they don't have any significant gains (doesn't help that Sigma is a complete joke character now). Meanwhile Reinhardt and Winston are literally the destroyer of worlds. I've taken on entire groups of enemies by myself and just slaughtered everybody without much trouble. You can really get away with a ton of stuff; bad positioning, risky plays, that you really shouldn't get away with and survive as them in this mode. With good support Dva and Zarya are basically unkillable too. Playing tanks is actually super fun now.

One major problem though is that losing your tank hurts more than ever this mode. Since you have no one else to fall back on it's easy for your entire team to collapse without a tank. I've noticed people solo ulting me a lot more too. Makes playing Dva a bit risky since you don't want to spend too much time de-meched, it's essentially worse than just dying.

It changes the role locks to 3 Damage, 2 Supports, and 1 Tank. To compensate for the solo tank role, they've been buffed considerably, with more health, faster cooldowns, and new abilities.

It's completely ridiculous, but a lot of fun honestly. Doesn't seem like the community as a whole has taken to it though, so it's not looking like it will last very long.

Tanks are so damn fun in this mode. You literally feel like a juggernaut. You mow down enemies left and right as Reinhardt, Winston is basically unkillable, Roadhog is a healer and has a million hooks he can throw, Zarya essentially has Lucio's ultimate on cooldown, and builds 100 charge constantly. Obviously there are some tanks that didn't really get as good buffs, I'm baffled that Wrecking Ball got NOTHING, but tanks have never been so awesome. It's a shame it's only temporary.

Yeah, the DS has a slightly larger screen than the ZX games benefited from (which is one of the reasons why I was disappointed the Zero collection on the DS didn't take advantage of that). This doesn't quite make up for the ZX games not being as good though...

Actually I've kind of been liking Sonic Forces. It's not amazing, but if you can tolerate other 3D Sonic games it's not bad.

The storyline is atrocious, but the Avatar feature is actually... good? Creating an avatar and seeing them get involved in the game is genuinely interesting, and the Avatar stages are the best part of the game. I never really liked the modern 3D Sonic stages since Unleashed. While they look cool visually, gameplay wise they've just been really annoying and filled with trial and error. They've never really found the balance between mixing high speed gameplay and traditional platforming like the classic games (or Mania) have. There are too many levels that are literally just "hold forward for a minute until you reach the end". Even in levels that do introduce other stage elements aren't fun because of the bad controls. I hate how squirrelly and hard to control Sonic is in the 3D stages. You slide the control stick over in one direction for a second and he goes rocketing off at 200 mph without any acceleration build up. It makes platforming so awful.

The avatar stages on the other hand are much more fun. They have decent high speed moments like the Sonic stages, but also move at a slower, more controllable pace in other sections. You get a ready fun to use weapon to attack hordes of enemies with (I really have grown to hate the homing attack, especially since the targeting system for it is terrible), and the grappling hook stuff, while simple, is fun to use. I wouldn't have minded if the entire game was made up of stages like that. Even the Classic Sonic stages aren't that good, since they just remind me of the much better Sonic Mania.

Also, I've been listening to this song almost daily since I've heard it. I know it's really cheesy, but it wouldn't be Sonic without cheese, and I just love it:

Actually, yeah, the limited screen space was always a big problem in the games. That's one of the things I wish they would improve upon on these re-releases, expanding the field of view. I know that would take a lot of work, but I'd rather have work put into that instead of some dumb online mode I'm never ever going to touch.

Okay after playing Zero 1 and Zero 2 for about an hour I don't think these games are for me. I love Mega Man and MMX games and these feel really awful to play.

What exactly don't you like about them? Admittedly I don't like Zero 1 at all, and Zero 2 can be hard to enjoy as a first time player (although I think it improves dramatically once you get used to it). I would say play Zero 3 before giving it up altogether. It has the best version of the Cyber Elf system, which was the biggest sticking point of the Zero games for me personally. It's just a much more solidly designed game than all the others.

Zero 3 is one of the greatest Mega Man games ever, across the entire franchise
Zero 2 is a great game that holds up nicely alongside the best of the MMX series
Zero 4 is okay enough, but makes a lot of bad decisions that bring it down in comparison to the previous entries.
Zero 1 is godawful

ZX is really poorly designed and not that fun.
ZXA seems like it might have been an improvement, but I couldn't say for sure because I never finished. It still seemed as boring as ZX

For some reason Youtube has been recommending me a lot of videos about amusement park accidents lately (I blame me watching Rollercoaster Tycoon Let's Plays). I've been finding them fascinating, but no story has been more stunning that Verrckt, the world's tallest water slide that was closed after a kid died riding it.

It's a horrible story, but what astonishes me is just how RIDICULOUSLY dangerous the ride was designed. The people who built it seem like some of the dumbest, most lackadaisical idiots ever and I'm surprised they were allowed to get away with opening it. And it's not like it was some super old ride that was built before the time of good safety standards, this was in 2014. There's just so many things wrong with the story, and you can see a lot of it in the video:

There's a lot of things about this story that blows my mind:

• The part in the video at 3:13 where the ride designers admit that every single professional engineer and mathematician told them the ride was dangerous and they were like "Pssh, what do those eggheads know?"
• The fact that people saw the raft go flying off the track and plowing into the ground over and over again and they still were eagerly waiting to ride it.
• That the "solution" to make it a safer ride was to put netting attached to metal hoops over the hill where the raft kept flying off. It's like they wanted to kill people even easier than before.

Yeah, it's always a good sign when you let businesses self-regulate. The law was changed, although it's probably mainly because the child who died on the ride was a state legislator's son.

The water slide was conceived on the spur of the moment by Henry, after a team from Travel Channel'sXtreme Waterparks asked at a trade show what he was working on.[6] After initial attempts to pitch the idea to vendors at the show failed,[2] Henry decided to build the slide himself,[7] enlisting John Schooley as the ride's lead designer.[3][8] Henry had described the new ride to the Travel Channel crew as a "speed blaster", a term he had likewise improvised.

The thing was built because one of the park owners randomly pulled the idea out of his ass just so he could have a record-breaking attraction. It's not really a surprise it wasn't designed very well.

A safety consultant hired by the park shortly before Verrckt's scheduled opening told Henry it was unfinished and unsafe. When complete, he recommended that only riders 16 and over be allowed on the ride. Henry, who had no formal training in engineering, decided 14 was better. Right before the opening, however, he dropped any age limit.

Again, it feels the entire damn thing was cobbled together on various whims by amateurs who had more visions of being attention-getting than people who actually planned things out.

However, at least thirteen riders suffered non-fatal injuries, such as concussions or slipped and herniated discs many of which had longterm effects after either hitting the netting or being thrown into it. After a Missouri man thrown from the raft suffered facial injuries in June 2016, the park's operations manager allegedly attempted to cover up the incident, telling lifeguards what to write in their reports; it is believed that was not the only accident where this happened.[3]

And of course, going hand in hand with laziness and greed, you have cover-ups of any failures that happen instead of addressing them.

The 2018 indictment against Schlitterbahn wrote that Henry and Schooley "lacked technical expertise to design a properly functioning water slide" and did not perform standard engineering procedures or calculations on how the slide would operate.[8] Instead they used "crude trial-and-error methods" to test its performance, out of haste to launch the ride.[8] According to court documents, Schooley conceded that, "If we actually knew how to do this, and it could be done that easily, it wouldnt be that spectacular."[43]

And the perfect capper, in the end the criminal charges against the people who made it were dropped thanks to a technicality.

What amazes me the most about this is how this kind of behavior, failing to do things properly, continuing to do things unsafe or immoral despite all logic, covering up anything that might stop it, and getting away with no true consequences of it in the end seems like it happens all the time, in so many situations with other businesses and governments, etc. It's just kind of mind-blowing how dumb of a world we live in that these kind of things aren't put to a stop before the inevitable disaster happens.

There was this rumor a few months back that Roger Craig Smith was being released from his contract after the next mainline Sonic game and is being replaced with Ben Schwartz so that all Sonic media is consistent going forward. If that's true then the stinger makes a lot of sense.

Or they straight up added that scene last minute because Tyson Hesse told them to and they didn't have time to find a new voice actor.

Jim Carrey wants a fat suit for the 2nd movie but Paramount isn't crazy about the idea

Man, from everything I'm hearing about this movie it's that the people that work on it are big fans that wanted to make it the best they could, but Paramount's executives are fucking as much as they can at every turn.

The executives KNEW fans would hate the original ugly Sonic design, but pushed for it because they wanted it to have the same "realistic" style as in the Transformers and Michael Bay Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies (also from Paramount).

They're also the ones that also wanted the "Sonic in the real world" plot. The creative team wanted more Sonic characters in the movie and have him traveling to different worlds, but things kept on getting cut and they were told that they could save it for a sequel if the first one did great (which thankfully looks to be the case).

I wonder how much of the actual fun Sonic stuff had to be added in the movie later. Pre-production assets showed that originally it was a group of realistic lizard-like aliens that attacked Sonic in the opening, instead of the Echidna tribe. I wonder if the Tails thing was added late too.

It was honestly pretty much exactly what I was expecting.

Not really great imo, but enjoyable. The plot wasn't good, and Sonic was way too annoying, but it was fun. Jim Carrey was fantastic, there were surprisingly a lot of great jokes, and ultimately it was fun to just see a Sonic movie. The references were fun to spot, and it wasn't as terrible as it could have been. I might have liked it less if I had payed for it though....

The Sanic reference was absolutely amazing I will say.
