Was watching some Spanish study channel for listening practice just today, and these motherfuckers don't get to the point without wasting 2 minutes on an intro and telling you to subscribe.

AND they don't have that much actual content demonstrating the vocab/grammar points they set out to discuss.

Pretty annoying.

SSX3 holds up even to this day, when titles that followed no longer do. Even though the mountain peaks are largely devoid of other people (aside from bleachers, observation decks, and other boarders) the game still feels very much alive. The "tell, don't show" approach actually works well, what with the EA RADIO BIG announcer talking about random happenings which add to that perception of liveliness.

Gameplay-wise, it has just enough features, and they're all the ones that matter.

I went out to walk/run, took it easy since it's been a while

I feel great afterwards but probably because I wasn't running "half a mile" but rather walking a few minutes, then running a few minutes, then gradually increasing the running minutes as I became comfortable with it.

The secret is "read more"

There's only a handful of inflections in Japanese and just through reading you will be exposed to them all in large amounts, in a short period of time.

This is how I'm approaching Spanish as well, even though it has a ton more conjugations. See it in action, and you'll remember how things are supposed to look and sound.

As long as you make it sound hokey as hell by slapping in shit like and other things people don't normally say (but not going to extremes), it could work.
etc. Not sure how a native speaker would go about localizing it, but I'd play up the utter ridiculousness of the south in general, beyond what is possible even in traditionally boondocksy Japanese dialects.

The real problem is you'd end up needing to find Americans who know Japanese to do this with any kind of success, as they'll "just know" what to do instead of needing extensive training in it.

And the REALEST problem is, I don't think they'd actually "get" it in Japan.

*note that "tell you what" doesn't really have a direct exact translation, you're just trying to capture the sense of what that feels like and it's your choice of filler, can range anywhere from just saying , or , or , , or going as far as flat out saying .

Real missed opportunity to go for the gold on the characters' accents.

Japanese works out surprisingly well when you speak it with an American Southern accent.

It's still an impressive dub, but could have been pushed one step further to true greatness surpassing the original. Might have had to tweak the dialogue some to account for a slight decrease in speaking speed, but it'd work.

Source: me and some other american JSLs sometimes talk among ourselves in this manner to confuse the hell out of native speakers

tbf if you're at that point reading this stuff, those kanji that I'm assuming you didn't know the reading/meaning of are fairly novel and therefore pretty easy to remember by virtue of that.

That's kind of the nice thing I guess, the "harder" ones are actually easier to remember imo since you'll probably remember when you saw it/the context it was in and even if the reading escapes you, you'll at least know what it means.

I've just been watching videos and playing games. reading stuff

That's my "studying" anymore.

My friend who's just starting JP convinced me to start learning Spanish. So @Yomi while I don't need your advice, thought you might be interested to hear it. Skimmed over a grammar guide to become aware of what is what, but the language largely makes sense when you see it in action as opposed to viewing walls of conjugations.

Literally just been reading the internet in Spanish and taking a more "direct" approach to getting input than Japanese provides for in the early stages. Literally just been reading for hours while at work. Couldn't speak it if you asked me to, but I know from experience that continued, repeated exposure will eventually yield results.

And consuming it in the quantities one early on, seems like it'll go 2x as fast as Japanese.

I do actually pay for the unlimited everything plan on my prepaid cellphone sooooo damn!

For some reason cell carriers are really dumb about tethering, even with "unlimited" there are so many catches.

Though, I miss my old grandfathered-in truly TRULY unlimited data plan. My stepmom racked up over 500GB of data watching netflix and hulu nonstop on that. That exceeded my data usage by a considerable amount.

I just want to understand how someone can bring in 14 million a year and not be putting some amount of that just in a generic index fund which, even just growing at 5% a year, would be making several times more than even people considered moderately wealthy.

How the fuck can you be bad with money when all you have to do is ignore some of it?

Step 2: Move to some city center of some sort
Step 3: wear a sign or shirt that says "ask me who I am" and stand around for a bit each day to rack up the requirement
Step 4: live an otherwise normal life
