Looks really aren't as important as compatability and it sounds like you and the older girl aren't compatable, she's just manipulating you and you seem perfectly fine with it because she looks really good. She could catch an std easy and give it to you because of her reckless sexual behavior, that's gross.

Yeah, I'm gonna call it off with her. I appreciate the honest feedback all

Probably not the best place to ask... But I really need outside perspective. Forgive the wall of text.

So I met a girl in November and we've since been in a long-ish distance (about 1 hour drive) poly relationship. At first I was ok with this, though never really comfortable with hearing about other guys she's with. I love this woman, and she loves me, but she's adamant she wants to remain poly, so this is as far as it goes in a sense.

Met another girl earlier this year where I live. Lots in common, she's close to me, emotionally available. She knew about the other woman, and seemingly was ok, but she's wanted more and is feeling like second place (kind of a shoe is now on the other foot scenario). I love newer girl, too. But its just not quite the same spark? Tough to explain.

Lately I've been in a bad way emotionally. Older girl has been distant, some talk but no action. I feel marginalized. Meanwhile she tells me about two recent guys in her town she dated that basically played her for sex and have since bailed on her. When I needed her to hear me about some personal shit over the weekend I find out today she was distant cause she was with another guy getting fucked. Still... Not to say I'm not getting mine here from newer girl regularly. I just am super into older girl and she's essentially said this is all I can give you.

Newer girl hasn't made any ultimatums or anything but she's obviously uncomfortable with older girl. I think I gotta break it off with older girl, just bite the bullet, even though I do feel stronger for her. So. What does CE think?

Would you agree with the statement that internal conflicts have created a "plurality of Freemasonries" over time?

That is, if you were to take a random sampling of contemporary Freemasons, and receive fully honest answers from them as to what they thought the purpose and value of Freemasonry is, would there be multiple mutually-incompatible answers?

Are there lodges today working at cross-purposes?

No, I wouldn't really agree with that statement. Generally speaking, masons endeavour to meet on the level, and while certain things may differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, the pillars of the fraternity are quite universal, which is how we recognize each other in foreign places and can visit lodges anywhere in the world.

Not to say there aren't differences of opinion on matters. Ill throw a couple out there: allowing women to become regular Free masons, recognized universally and permitted to travel. And, in the United States, sadly, there is still some racism with regards to Prince Hall Affiliated Grand Lodges, which are historically black, and A.F.A.M, or F.A.M. lodges. Though I'd say that is becoming less prevalent with the march of time.

Regarding membership, numbers are in decline steadily. This isn't just a regional problem, but worldwide. Why? Hard to pinpoint a singular cause. Imo the world has moved beyond the necessity for social clubs such as Freemasonry and other fraternal organizations. People tend to communicate more and more online and less face to face. People are busier than they were 50, 60 years ago. Their children require more oversight and being bussed to and from activities. Jobs require more hours and its tougher to,make meetings. On top of all this, the WW2 generation mindset of hush hush, don't even talk to family members about masonry, along with anti Masonic sentiment and widespread belief in things like the Taxil Hoax have ingrained into popular culture many of the stigmas present even in this topic. My home lodge is doing ok, actually. We just raised a 20 year old and a another thirty something like me. Will they stick around? Time will tell.

This is an ama on the basics of masonry, @JimmyFraska. As you have some knowledge on the subject, you're already more well versed then some master masons in my own lodge. It is difficult to speak about the traditions and roots of the craft without getting into specifics about ritual, symbols, numerology, and much more esoteric subjects. Masonry is a body of work worthy of a lifetime of study and practice. Does everybody take it so seriously? Read the Hall's, Pikes's, and more modernly De Hoyos? Certainly not.

We use a term, not meant to be dertogatory but has taken that connotation over the years, for those not initiated: profane. Among our members I'd argue many remain profane because they do not delve into deeper subjects and meanings. And that's ok. Some knowledge and understandings are not meant for everybody. Perhaps this makes me sound pretentious, but the true secrets of a master mason are beyond the understanding of most master masons. Do I understand it all? No, of course not. But I've made it my goal to try to do so. As well as guide others that may personally benefit, to potentially join our ranks. The main goal here was to dispel some myths, as 9/10 people have no clue what speculative masonry is. If you want more answers, all I can say is submit a petition. Of course feel free to ask anything, but as I said before specific questions about ritual and its interpretation I cannot discuss, nor will any regular mason anywhere worth his salt, as it would violate our obligation.

I figured you might not be able to answer my last question, just had to ask.

Not getting into specifics, in our experience how much ritual/symbolical breakdown is done in Lodge outside of the actual ritual? It seems to me you'd probably have to do this with individuals rather than something the lodge itself would do, as I figure they would see your personal interpretation as important, and I know I've heard of lodges that do none whatsoever. So I'm just wondering where that line is drawn, or do you have to seek out individuals after the fact if you want stuff like that

Open lodge meetings are typically very business like. Pay bills, discuss activities, vote on petitions, that kinda thing. Most lodge s have an LEO, or lodge education officer. Its this brothers responsibility to create lessons for a meeting on something related to,Masonic symbolism, ritual or history. While these are nice and always enjoyable, if you want to learn more than just a cursory level about things you often have to do the research yourself, or join an appendent body. Which is why i joined Scottish Rite and enjoy reading Masonic books for pleasure. Once you're a master mason, no further work is technically required.

Partially, sure. It is certainly a frat. But active masons that are involved with ritual, hold officer positions, learn ritual and its meaning, will say there's much more to it. I always say you get out of it what you put into it. Some guys just like to wear the ring, or pin, or whatever, say their a mason. Others are historians and scholars on the subject.

Ok so it's like regular church

In the sense there is a community of like minded individuals with the same cause or motivating factor, sure. Things can be like other things but be wholly individual at the same time. Masonry is not a religion.
