There are two kinds of mid-level providers:

PA - Attends a 3 year "mini med school" of sorts, then works under a supervising physician basically (legally) as a proxy.

APRN - An RN who gets a PhD in advanced practice. These were previously nurses who got advanced training and are (usually) legally allowed to practice independently without a supervising physician. Independent practice is generally limited to clinic. APRNs who work in the hospital have supervising physicians.

So would something like a dentist fit in the first category?

Yes, this is a true. PA-C's essentially do doctor stuff, but aren't "officially" considered a doctor since they still need an official certification to make it an official thing.

Do they get some sort of doctorate because the staff refers to him as doctor so just wondering.

Mostly out of respect, given the amount of work they do and often times the amount of clinical decision-making bear allowed to have. My primary care provider is a PA, and I call him doctor

I honestly think this is misleading.

Not trying to come of as a "teh books arr better" snob. Honestly, the books aren't for everyone. It can be hard for most people to get through them, and it kind of was for me, too. But IF you read the books first, watching the movies is a very satisfying visual adaptation. They really did a great job on almost everything in a way that is extremely rare for movie adaptations of books.

IF you were going to try to read the books first, I would suggest the audiobook recordings by Phil Draggash. He's an amazing narrator who also does unique voices for each character. He also added music from the movies and background sound effects and ambiance. Listening to this FEELS like watching a movie.

I would recommend reading The Hobbit first if you really want the full experience, but I guess you could skip it. But you really shouldn't.

Oh and of course if you're going to watch them you should watch the extended editions.

Is the Hobbit a prequel to the Lord of the Rings?

Looking at someone isn't sexual harassment. I like when guys check me out. Don't take the train if people looking at you makes you so uncomfortable

Yes. What if it could be scientifically converted? What if someone can change their sexuality in the same way someone goes to a plastic surgeon to get a new nose? It could help a lot of people who aren't comfortable with their sexuality and choose to undergo that change.
The only reason someone wouldn't be comfortable with their sexuality is because other people made them uncomfortable.

Other people? Try society.

Funny, in the topic where the Las Vegas cop who got to the scene first but was too scared to confront the gunman, the most common response was in the vein of "It's part of his job (to go up against a man with a rifle armed only with a pistol), if he didn't want to do it, then he should find a new job".

Yet apparently TC's case is different? (it's not). Fact is, it's part of your job.

Perhaps the rest of you who came with that conclusion in that cop topic should be consistent.

The problem is that people who work in medicine don't get enough psychiatry experience. They don't use proper techniques de-escalate patients and they don't assess for risk of violence as well as they should. This has been a growing problem in healthcare especially in the ER where a lot of homeless patients with psychiatric problems end up. I agree that it's part of the job and health professionals who don't work in psychiatry should be better trained on how to handle aggressive patients.
