A California police department is adding fuel to the electric car debate after one of its patrol cars, a Tesla Model S, nearly ran out of juice during a vehicle pursuit last week.

It all started on a quiet Friday night in Fremont, when the citys automated license plate reader system got a hit on a white Toyota Avalon entering the citys limits and alerted the citys authorities. The Toyota, wanted in connection with a felony in Santa Clara, was eventually located in an AutoZone parking lot by Fremont Police Officer Jesse Hartman at 11 p.m. on Sept. 20.

That night, Hartman was driving his departments one and only Tesla patrol car, part of a six-month pilot program the Fremont Police Department was studying in an attempt to reduce emissions and improve efficiency. When the Toyota finally pulled out of the AutoZone parking lot, Hartman attempted to stop the vehicle.

I lit him up and he is not yielding. We are in pursuit, Hartman is heard saying over the radio, according to Broadcastify audio obtained by ABC News.

The pursuit then kicked off into a high-speed highway chase toward San Jose. Additional Fremont police officers and California Highway Patrol responded within minutes, as Hartman raced after the suspect at more than 100 miles per hour on Interstate-680 South.

Meanwhile, requests for a CHP helicopter were made and San Jose authorities were notified.

What level were when you defeated said boss? I'd imagine I'm going to have a rough time given I have stronger enemies enabled.

The storm will exit the Rockies Thursday and track northeast across the Plains, leaving a blanket of snow across the region.
Parts of six states are under a winter watch, warning or advisory from Colorado to Minneapolis.

The storm could shatter October snow records across much of the Dakotas as it intensifies and dumps 1 to 2 feet of snow through Friday night. The National Weather Service office in Bismarck is referring to this event as a "potentially historic October winter storm."

Along with the snow, wind gusts of 40-50 mph or more are expected, producing possible blizzard conditions and making travel extremely dangerous.

The winds could also bring down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages and whiteout conditions on the roads. Expect treacherous travel on roadways and airport delays through the end of the week in the affected areas.

The snow will continue into Friday for portions of eastern North and South Dakota before moving into parts of Minnesota by Saturday, forecasters said.

We're not even midway through October and a second potentially historic snowstorm is already taking shape across the north-central United States, with blizzard conditions possible. "A significant, and potentially historic, October winter storm is on track to impact the northern Rockies, and areas of the central and northern Plains through Saturday," the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center said Wednesday.

The storm began Wednesday, dumping up to 2 feet of snow across areas of Montana -- which already saw a historic snowstorm last month. Tropical storm-force wind gusts over 60 mph have already been recorded near Denver, and temperatures in that region dropped more than 60 degrees Fahrenheit since Wednesday.

Also expected to see temperature drops with this storm Thursday and Friday are: Amarillo, Texas: From 85 degrees to 29 degrees in 36 hours

Minneapolis: From 65 degrees to 33 degrees in 33 hours

Kansas City: From 71 degrees to 41 degrees in 15 hours

Albuquerque: From 70 degrees to 29 degrees in 15 hours

Oklahoma City: From 74 degrees to 39 degrees in 18 hours

Lubbock, Texas: From 80 to 34 in 16 hours

Chicago: From 68 degrees to 38 degrees in 18 hours
