No, it's apparently a thing. I was listening to the Read a couple weeks ago and they were despairing at their mentions where a lot of (apparently white people) were carrying on about how they don't wash the surfaces on their bodies, just the holes and crevices. Jay-Z is reportedly stepping in to assist a Phoenix, Ariz. family with legal help after video recently surfaced of the police pulling guns on their child over a shoplifting incident.
The incident occurred in May. Dravon Ames, his fiancee Iesha Harper and their 4-year-old daughter were shopping at Family Dollar when the child lifted a Barbie doll unbeknownst to the parents. After leaving the store, they drove to an apartment complex when they say they were approached by an angry police officer who threatened to kill them.

"Our hands are up, we're just trying not to get shot, trying to stay calm," Ames said. "He had a gun drawn."

Video of the traumatizing incident, which has gone viral, shows officers with their guns drawn and yelling obscenities at the couple and their young daughter. According to a Fox News 10 report published on Saturday (June 15), the couple has filed a $10 million lawsuit and plan to pursue child neglect complaints against the officers who acted out of line. Hov has put one of his lawyers on the case. The billionaire rapper has reportedly hired Alex Spiro to join the family's legal teampro-bono.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego has released a statement about the shocking incident. "I, like many others, am sick over what I have seen in the video depicting Phoenix police interacting with a family and young children. It was completely inappropriate and clearly unprofessional," Gallego wrote in a Facebook post. "There is no situation in which this behavior is ever close to acceptable. As a mother myself, seeing these children placed in such a terrifying situation is beyond upsetting."

The Phoenix PD are conducting an investigation of the situation and have put both officers on the scene on desk duty.

YouTube announced on Wednesday new policies banning supremacist content from the platform, including videos alleging that a group is superior in order to justify discrimination, segregation or exclusion. But YouTubes treatment of people victimized by its content creators over the past 24 hours proves that the website was unable or unwilling to enforce its terms of service in the first place.

Dangerous white supremacist content is rampant on YouTube, and the companys announcement that it planned to remove thousands of yet-undisclosed videos to curb hate speech and extremism is a welcome one, if late. But the company has yet to show that its capable of enforcing such a policy in the long-term, and exemplified its inability mere hours prior.

On Tuesday evening, it released a statement saying it wouldnt remove videos that have targeted Vox journalist Carlos Maza with racist, derogatory and homophobic speech, all of which appeared to be in clear violation of the hate and harassment policies YouTube already had.

In videos seen by millions, prominent conservative YouTuber Steven Crowder describes Maza as a lispy queer, a gay Mexican and an anchor baby, among other hateful mockery. Maza said the videos prompted a yearslong harassment campaign against him online, including an incident where his phone number was made public and he received hundreds of menacing messages.

He opened up about the videos, and the mob harassment he sustained after each, on Twitter last week. In return, he became a lightning rod for more attacks on all platforms a shirt reading Carlos Maza is a (gay slur), for example, was being sold on 1776.shop, a far-right merchandise site with ties to the Proud Boys extremist gang (the shirt appears to have been since taken down).

These comments werent from your everyday Facebook users. They were the words of Philadelphia police officers.

Local law enforcement departments across the country have grappled with officers use of social media, often struggling to create and enforce policies that restrict offensive speech.

The North Charleston, South Carolina, police department fired an officer for posting a photo of himself wearing Confederate flag underwear, days after a white supremacist killed nine black worshippers at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church just miles away. He later settled a wrongful termination suit.

The Chicago Police Department has tried unsuccessfully to fire an officer whose own commander complained of his bigoted views. A Facebook page called Chicago Code Blue attracted attention for inflammatory comments such as Every Thug Deserves a Slug after an officer was found guilty in the death of Laquan McDonald.

Police officers saying bigoted and racist things online has been an issue since the beginning of social media. The behavior was especially scrutinized after the Black Lives Matter movement blasted into the national conversation and that scrutiny has continued even after that movement began grappling with its future. What was never really captured was the scope of problematic online posts from police officers.

But a new review of police behavior on Facebook documents the systemic nature of the conduct across several departments. The Plain View Project, launched by Philadelphia lawyer Emily Baker-White, examined the accounts of about 2,900 officers from eight departments across the country and an additional 600 retired officers from those same departments. She compiled posts that represented troubling conduct in a database that is replete with racist imagery and memes, and in some cases long, vitriolic exchanges involving multiple officers.

The project sought to compile posts, comments, and other public activity that could undermine public trust in the police and reinforce the views of critics, especially in minority communities, that the police are not there to protect them.

Of the pages of officers whom the Plain View researchers could positively identify, about 1 in 5 of the current officers, and 2 in 5 of the retired officers, made public posts or comments that met that threshold typically by displaying bias, applauding violence, scoffing at due process, or using dehumanizing language. The officers mocked Mexicans, women, and black people, celebrated the Confederate flag, and showed a man wearing a kaffiyeh scarf in the crosshairs of a gun.

Execute all involved, he wrote separately about a group of teens who were accused of killing a 6-year-old. (One defendant pleaded guilty to aiding in the kidnapping. Reuben Carver III, a Phoenix officer, proclaimed in a stand-alone post, Its a good day for a choke hold.

Fox News on Friday afternoon stood by Laura Ingraham after she defended a white supremacist and several other fringe people who have been banned or disciplined by large social media companies.

Ingraham's defense of the extremists on her prime time Fox show "The Ingraham Angle" came during a segment on Thursday about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's criticism of Facebook for not removing a video doctored to make it appear she was drunk and slurring her words.

Ingraham said calls for Facebook to remove the video were a "pretext to be able to silence voices."

Later during the segment, Ingraham displayed a graphic showing images of people she characterized as "prominent voices censored on social media."

"Facebook now, what do they monitor? Quote, hate? That sounds good until you realize hate," Ingraham said. "And these are some of the people they've shunned."

"It's people who believe in border enforcement, people who believe in national sovereignty," Ingraham added.

The graphic included Paul Nehlen, a white supremacist who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2016 and 2018. Nehlen, who refers to himself as "pro-white," has had his racism and anti-Semitism well documented. In April, for instance, he appeared on a podcast and admitted to wearing a shirt featuring Robert Bowers, the man accused of killing 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue.

"Because, I want to make a point that it will ultimately take -- it might not take a million Robert Bowers -- but it's going to take a lot of people all pushing in the same direction to do what needs to be done, and that is to rid white lands of Jews," Nehlen said on the podcast. "Because they are going to undermine our ability to thrive as a race. They are going to wipe us off the face of the earth."

Nehlen has also shared fringe conspiracy theories, including the idea that Bill and Hillary Clinton are murderers.

Nehlen, who was permanently suspended from Facebook and Twitter, is so toxic that even Gab, a platform used by members of the alt-right, banned him. In 2017, the far-right website Breitbart cut ties with Nehlen after he appeared on a white nationalist podcast.

Jonathan Greenblatt, chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League, criticized Fox News and Ingraham for the description of Nehlen.

"Paul Nehlen is not being censored because he's a conservative. He was kicked off social media for repeatedly spewing anti-Semitism & racism, and for targeting Jewish journalists," Greenblatt tweeted on Friday. "Do better, @FoxNews."

Following the backlash, Fox News released a statement saying it was "obscene to suggest" Ingraham had defended Nehlen.

"Anyone who watches Laura's show knows that she is a fierce protector of freedom of speech and the intent of the segment was to highlight the growing trend of unilateral censorship in America," the Fox News statement added.

Ingraham did not respond to requests for comment.
