In this case, the original Disney movie, not the book the movie was based upon. and what effect does this have the quality of the remake? what's the benefit of this consistency? Brand recognition. Robert Downey Jr is recognisable as being Tony Stark from the comics. You dont need to be told that hes Tony Stark, you just know by looking at him. Thats good casting. Having to be told who a well known popular character is just by looking at the actor playing them and not having any sense of recognisability by their appearance is bad casting. Completely changing an established characters appearance is bad casting. You cant cast anyone as anyone and expect it to work.
