With Joker currently smashing box office records with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role, it's easy to forget that it's only three years since the last version of the Crown Prince of Crime was on screen. Jared Leto played the role in 2016's Suicide Squad, and despite initial rumors that he would return to role, this now seems unlikely. According to a new report, he wasn't happy about the decision to make another Joker movie without him.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Leto was left feeling "alienated and upset" when Joker was greenlit by Warner. While Suicide Squad was not a critical hit, it was a box office success, and it was expected that Leto would reprise the role. In June 2018 it was reported that a standalone Joker movie starring Leto was in development, that would tie into a Suicide Squad sequel. However, there has been no further news about this, and Suicide Squad is now being rebooted by James Gunn.

The new Joker movie was first announced in 2017, which led Leto himself to comment on the situation. He said he was "confused" by the fact there were seemingly more than one movie in the works. It was also reported by THR that Leo was "was caught off guard by the plans."

Whether we'll see Phoenix reprise the role is unknown. While director Todd Phillips initially denied that there were plans for a sequel, Phoenix this week stated that he couldn't "stop thinking about" the character.

Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix continue to outpace the competition in the North American box office as Joker enters its second weekend, Variety reports. Early estimates are projecting $50 million at 4,374 theaters nationwide. This comes after a record-breaking opening weekend, despite concerns of violence causing the film to be pulled from several theatrical chains.

The news is less optimistic for the new Ang Lee and Will Smith joint, Gemini Man, which pits Smith against a fully rendered CGI clone of his younger self. Gemini Man is coming in significantly under expectations with $19 million projected at 3,642 theaters nationwide.

In our review, GameSpot's Chris Hayner called Gemini Man bland, and lacking in depth and development for its characters. "At the end of the day, though, it's the story and forgettable characters that keep Gemini Man from being something special," Hayner wrote. "Lee knew what he was making with Gemini Man, and it shows. It's a movie-length technology sizzle reel. This is a film meant to show audiences just how far the medium has come. From filming at 120 FPS in 4K, to digitally building a clone of the movie's star to make them fight in a series of over-the-top action sequences, there's a lot to marvel at in Gemini Man. But the visuals can also border on uncanny, and Gemini Man just doesn't have the story to back that action up."

Meanwhile, GameSpot's Mike Rougeau called Joker "a new, complex version of a familiar character that we've never seen before," and "the dark anti-hero origin story that comic book movies deserve."

Pokemon Masters arrived on iOS and Android back in August, and while the game quickly raked in a lot of money, it has also been plagued by numerous issues. Developer DeNA rolled out an update earlier this week that addressed some of these and included free Gems as a makegood for the delay, and now producer Yu Sasaki has opened up about the state of the game and what the development team will be working to improve moving forward.

In a candid message shared on the official Pokemon Masters website, Sasaki acknowledges the issues that have been affecting the game and players' dissatisfaction with how DeNA has gone about resolving them. Sasaki promises the development team will address bugs more quickly and transparently:

"First, as you know, there have been bugs and other issues that have impaired your enjoyment of this game. Some of the feedback we received was regarding which bugs we prioritized fixing first and how quickly we were able to fix them. We fully understand and appreciate these concerns as it's not our intention to provide a poor user experience. Rather, our focus was on fixing any bug that affected game mechanics or progression first. Moving forward, we will carefully prioritize critical issues and their potential solutions. We will also redouble our efforts to address issues in a timely fashion as our team continues to streamline its operational process."

Sasaki also acknowledges player complaints that there isn't enough content in the game. "Our original plan was to have players progressing through the main story while at the same time tackling co-op challenges and EX Challenges throughout September and October," Sasaki said. "That said, we understand players have quickly progressed through all available content and feel dissatisfied with the current offerings. As fans ourselves, we also feel a great sense of urgency to provide more quality content for players to enjoy. We're working hard to address this as soon as possible."

Sasaki says the development team is currently focusing on improving four specific aspects of the game: the lack of content, the lack of "appealing rewards," the game's difficulty, and its "poor usability." Sasaki says the team can address the second area "relatively quickly" and tells fans to "look forward to updates in the near future." Regarding the other three areas, Sasaki says "these issues will take time to fully address, but we will be sure to keep players updated about our progress."

Sasaki closes the message by saying, "We're disappointed we did not meet the expectations of our community, and for this, we sincerely apologize. It's our intention that this does not happen again. Hearing these opinions from fellow Trainers has deepened our sense of commitment to deliver a game we can all be proud of."

In the farming simulator RPG Stardew Valley, there's not much you can do once you're married and have had kids. For those looking for it, there's no endgame content. However, developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone is hoping to change that in the game's next update, Patch 1.4.

"The new 1.4 update does add some depth to post-marriage life... some additions that I'm proud of and I hope are very heartwarming for players... but I know there will always be more that can be done," Barone said in an interview with USG. "I've been unofficially calling 1.4 the 'everything' update because it touches pretty much every aspect of the game in some way or another. One of my major goals was to add in a lot of quality of life features that make the game more convenient and effortless to play."

Barone also said Patch 1.3, the update that specifically adds multiplayer to Stardew Valley, is also "very close to being ready" for Xbox One. "I don't personally do the console ports, but from what I've gathered, every console has different tech and different requirements to meet," he said. Barone has partnered up with one other person to continue supporting Stardew Valley, but is also simultaneously working solo on a new, unannounced project.

In GameSpot's Stardew Valley review, Mary Kish wrote, "Stardew Valley [is] such a lovely experience, it encourages you to go out and be the best you can be, in whichever task that brings you the most joy. Stardew Valley motivates naturally, with blissful optimism."

As the indie game scene grows more competitive and ideas within the space grow increasingly complex, more independent developers are joining forces on small teams. Of course, there are still developers like Barone that prefer to work alone. I feel like the bikini thing was just a cheapshot and the real reason she didn't get hired is because she's obviously a party animal.

I say the bikini thing is a representation of her lifestyle. I don't at all feel sorry for her. She shared her social media with them so she should be aware they were judging her. She probably got complacent given that the name of the company was "Kickass Masterminds".

I suppose the company could have handled this with considerably more tact by sitting down with her privately to teach her how to behave. But that requires time and effort... No no, this is the real world and kids these days need to grow up, why bother with any kind of mentorship and supporting one's community as a whole?
