Since her rank B is time gated to Chapter 12, you don't have the opportunity to bank support points throughout Part 1 like you do everyone else. I recall it taking a bit to get to A rank myself, so it's not just you.

"Necessary" may be a bit on the strong side, but I'm a tad skeptical whether the status quo as is was a net positive. Lest you forget, Edelgard isn't the only one that has a bone to pick with the current state of affairs.

For example, let's take Claude - the game outright states that he and Edelgard share identical ideals. And yes, his methods would be preferable to Edelgard's more direct approach. But am I supposed to believe that the lady in charge of a church that has a doctrine that in essence states "Yeah, crimes are fine in the name of the goddess" would just sit back and let an outsider slowly dismantle the current hierarchy. Hell, am I supposed to believe the nobility of Fodlan in general would just shrug and say "Yeah, we're cool with this guy saying we should open our borders to this country we've feared for decades"?

Consider me doubtful Claude would be able to achieve his goals with any effectiveness without it leading a similar bloody conflict. As it is, he benefits greatly from a certain someone rattling the cages. And he gets to deliver a badass line while he does it!

If it helps, Crimson Flower is the most unique of the four routes in Part 2, so there is enough different that going to Golden Deer right away would be a matter of slogging your way through Part 1 before you hit fresh content when it becomes Verdant Wind.

It's up to you, but for what it's worth, after playing CF and VW, I have no desire to plunge into a third playthrough anytime soon.

If you want to avoid the most recycled content, go Edelgard's route. Golden Deer shares the same Part 2 maps as Blue Lions from chapters 12-17.

I'd say your best bet is do Golden Deer. It'll get you most of the way there in my opinion.

I really REALLY don't think playing all four routes is an absolute necessity.

The flipside is that the latter parts of Act 2 for the other routes start to drag hardcore. You may end up appreciating the fast pace of Crimson Flower after going through Verdant Wind.

Seriously, FIVE free days before the final chapter of Verdant Wind? Who the hell thought that was a good idea?

Anyways, a lot of S Rank arts are pretty awful, especially for the girls. Quite a few are missing noses. The guys fare just a bit better.

Rhea got gipped hardcore in Silver Snow

Yeah, sure, the "Church" route effectively makes her not show up until the end. They screwed up by not having her around immediately post time skip. Hell, if you go down that route, Rhea should've been playable beginning in Chapter 12. If you're going to rob BE players of Edelgard and Hubert in Silver Snow, the least you could do is make it up to them by giving them a playable Rhea.

As it stands, Silver Snow is just a waste of everyone's time.

Funnily enough, Crimson Flower is the route where Dimitri is at his sanest. You may recall the E3 trailer where he has an eyepatch and yells "KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!"?

Without getting into it too much, Dimitri is far more insane in other routes, including his own.

I tried to meme Byleth as Mortal Savant. I got sick of it and put him back in Enlightened One.

Oh, this came up at the tail end of the last topic, but in regards to Dimitri in Crimson Flower:

He's relatively sane because the coup that runs him out of Faerghus doesn't occur. The combination of Edelgard backing away from her reliance on the Agarthans* and Rhea's presence in the kingdom results in Cornelia unable to frame Dimitri for his uncle's death, thus Dimitri is no longer a fugitive and doesnt lose an eye. Amusingly enough, Crimson Flower is the route outside of his own where Dimitri is treated with dignity.

*I refuse to use that god awful "Those Who Slither in the Dark" name for those guys.

tl;dr: I agree it was written poorly, but I disagree with how you interpreted it... which itself may be a sign of how poorly written it was!

Chapter 11

My hot take is that Crimson Flower should have locked in the moment you choose to accompany Edelgard to Enbarr. You change up the story to where she reveals her identity as the Flame Emperor in private and have her call off her Holy Tomb raid because she learns about what Rhea did to Byleth when they were an infant, opting to confront Rhea directly with evidence of baby experimentation.

This gives you a unique chapter 11 where the objective is an escape map to run from angry dragon.

But hey, having to plan out four routes isnt easy, so I can look past a few narrative whiffs here and there.

The writers certainly try to soften the emotional blow of deciding to go Crimson Flower, given what the broad objective is.

Aside from the "Oh yeah, Rhea is a psycho angry dragon that every FE game has to take down" thing, they really ratchet up the Edelgard cutesy moments. Stuff like taking an entire night to come up with "Black Eagle Strike Force" and the likely immediate unlocking of her B Support where she just wants to eat sweets.

CF Byleth / Edelgard has to be one the most pushed FE pairings in awhile. It's up there with Elwood / Ninian.

On my Golden Deer run, my main ten are: Byleth, Claude, Hilda, Marianne, Leonie, Lysithea, Lorenz, Petra, Ingrid, and Mercedes. I try to sneak in Rapheal when I can while Ignatz has unfortunately fallen off.

I think my main crew during BE was Byleth, Edelgard, Hubert, Bernadetta, Dorothea, Petra, Ingrid, Linhardt, Ferdinand, and Felix.

Ingrid has some laughably low recruitment requirements. I got her before Chapter 6 with no support levels and only a minimal investment in Flying.

My guess is since she tends to be a Pegasus Knight, they wanted to allow players fair access to a flier.
